The View from the Tenderloin

The View From the Tenderloin

July. Four months into this "shelter in place". Four months, and the nation is in a very bad place. We are quarantined internationally. There is no national, coordinated strategy for fighting this plague. The party in power barely acknowledges it. Nothing will be done in that regard until after the election and the new team transitions in. It will take a Roosevelt sized effort to right this ship.
Personally, I'm torn. Like many, there is a player missing from my life, and it's devastating to me. That player was there before all this came down, and will never be back. It rips me up. I've been physically damaged by the plague, and it's not over yet.
On the other hand, my home is locked in, it's not in jeopardy as so many are about to be. My home care provider is here most of the time, it's like having a servant. My income is guaranteed, no matter how badly the republicans screw the pooch. This, what will no doubt be the last chapter of my life, is strange beyond belief.

Well well, isn't that interesting. Is Fascism starting to lose it's appeal? The less than inspiring attendance at Coronafest 2020 makes me wonder what's up. The apparent waning enthusiasm could be a number of things. Mitch saying no more stimulus money? Reports that there would be no unemployment extension? People are going to start losing their apartments, which means building owners are going to start defaulting on mortgages. People are seeing the writing on the wall.

The plague. People are starting to see the blood on the walls. Word is getting out that surviving the initial infection is just the beginning. The damage caused by an out of control immune system is extensive. No one knows yet the end.
I'd say Shitler is in a world of hurt. Vote Blue, all the way down the ticket.

The View from the Tenderloin

It's taken me a few weeks to find my calm, to get centered. Time to understand how lucky I am, the great living situation, all the resources I have. For the first time in quite a while I took a walk through the old neighborhood, stretching my legs, listening to the headphones. It's still the rough underbelly of downtown, of this great City, too much trash, too many tents, still vestiges of hopelessness. The flotsam of humanity that cannot be hidden, no matter the circumstance. All against a blue and sunny background, immersed in my Pink Floyd.
I ache internally, as does my home care provider. We both caught the plague last January, and are trying to understand the severity of it's aftermath. With us, it seems to be damage to my kidneys and his lungs. Surviving the initial infection is just the beginning. Wear your masks, keep your distance, stay safe.
