Wil Haygood talked about his life and career and responds to viewer comments and questions. Mr. Haygood’s most recent book is Showdown: Thurgood Marshall and the Supreme Court Nomination That Changed America.

A large group of protesters were gathering Thursday night in the street outside the Pacific Amphitheater where Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump kicked off his campaign in the Golden State Thursday night with a huge rally in Costa Mesa .

The event, set to begin at 7 p.m., finally got underway about a half hour later at the OC Fair and Event Center, located at 88 Fair Dr.

A large crowd of people, mostly Trump supporters, started gathering outside the venue hours ahead of the scheduled start time, video from the scene showed.

There were several scuffles outside the event between Trump supporters and those protesting his campaign.
