Making A Murderer": Dassey attorneys working to secure his release

Source: WBAY

Attorneys for Brendan Dassey say they are working to get their client released from prison following a bombshell court ruling affirming that Dassey's confession to the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach was coerced by Manitowoc County investigators.

On Thursday, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court's ruling overturning Dassey's 1st Degree Intentional Homicide conviction in the case that was featured in the Netflix docu-series "Making A Murderer."

Action 2 News has obtained the ruling from the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals affirming Judge William Duffin's ruling in a 2-1 vote. The majority of the three-judge panel agreed with Duffin that Dassey's confession was involuntary.

The decision could set in motion the release of Brendan Dassey from prison after 10 years behind bars. Dassey and his uncle Steven Avery were sentenced to life in prison for the murder of freelance photographer Halbach on Halloween of 2005.

The majority opinion states, "Dassey's interview could be viewed in a psychology class as a perfect example of operant conditioning."

London Mayor 'has more important things to do' than respond to Trump tweet

Source: CNN

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has more important things to do than to respond to a critical tweet from US President Donald Trump, which a spokesman for Khan called “ill-informed.”

“The Mayor is busy working with the police, emergency services, and the government to coordinate the response to this horrific and cowardly terrorist attack and provide leadership and reassurance to Londoners and visitors to our city. He has more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump's ill-informed tweet that deliberately takes out of context his remarks urging Londoners not to be alarmed when they saw more police - including armed officers - on the streets," Khan’s spokesman said in a statement.

Former Diplomats: Trump Team Sought to Lift Sanctions on Russia

The Trump administration was gearing up to lift sanctions on Russia when the president took office, but career diplomats ginned up pressure in Congress to block the move, two senior former State Department officials told NBC News Thursday.

It's the latest evidence that President Trump moved to turn his favorable campaign rhetoric about Russia into concrete action when he took power.

Daniel Fried, who served as a senior diplomat until he retired in late February, said he became aware of the sanctions effort in the early weeks of Trump's presidency.

Trump administration asks Supreme Court to reinstate travel ban

Source: Politico

President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to revive his controversial travel ban executive order, hoping that the justices will give the green light to a policy repeatedly blocked by lower courts.

In filings Thursday night, the Justice Department asked the high court to temporarily lift injunctions that bar officials from carrying out Trump’s directive to suspend visa issuance to citizens of six majority-Muslim countries and halt the flow of refugees to the U.S. from across the globe. The Trump administration also asked the justices to add the legality of the travel ban to the high court’s docket.

Clinton rips DNC: I inherited nothing

Hillary Clinton blasted the Democratic National Committee on Wednesday, saying that she "inherited nothing" from the party after winning its presidential nomination last year.

"So I’m now the nominee of the Democratic Party. I inherit nothing from the Democratic Party," she said during a question and answer session at Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

"I mean, it was bankrupt. It was on the verge of insolvency. Its data was mediocre to poor, nonexistent, wrong," she recalled. "I had to inject money into it."

Source: Comey to testify publicly about Trump confrontations

Source: CNN

Fired FBI director James Comey plans to testify publicly in the Senate as early as next week to confirm bombshell accusations that President Donald Trump pressured him to end his investigation into a top Trump aide's ties to Russia, a source close to the issue said Wednesday.

Final details are still being worked out and no official date for his testimony has been set. Comey is expected to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is investigating possible connections between the Trump campaign and Russia during last year's presidential election.

Comey has spoken privately with Special Counsel Robert Mueller III to work out the parameters for his testimony to ensure there are no legal entanglements as a result of his public account, a source said. Comey will likely sit down with Mueller, a longtime colleague at the Justice Department, for a formal interview only after his public testimony.
