Do you see this?

In 2009, Obama's first State of the Union message included a EDIT - better word is non-obvious- xxxhiddenxxx message telling the non-math challenged that Obamacare wasn't seriously intended to address the health care needs of the country and was only for appearances sake because "it had to be self supporting" and that basically meant it would fail, I think that was already clear by the first SOTU address (at least I saw this interaction loud and clear) and that portion of the address was actually intended to send that message, to his - (maybe donors- supporters but not the kinds we think of, or are) ...

I see an identical kind of signalling behavior at work in the recent USTR message about the WTO decision on solar power,

Obama Undermines Climate Efforts in Solar Trade Dispute

which is actually it seems to me less about India than about the US and protectionism, a very sensitive subject because Americans still havent been told about progressive liberalisation or GATS or the last 20 years of US trade policy, part of which are promises to liberalise services - trading jobs for market acess overseas in countries like india. They get jobs, we get cheap labor, they get money, but not a super lot of it.

These promises have been made quietly but they go back decades and the countries that have been on the receiving end of these promises want action, soon.

The message was directed at them to ignore Bernie and his talk about (WTO and TiSA and TPP and especially TiSA-prohibited protectionism that must seem discongruous. But its just to reassure them that - we're all (all the 99% - the bitter Americans he is contemptuous of) out of the loop because the trading away of American jobs and the pushing down to global norms of US wages is of course such a sensitive subject!

So Shhhh! Everything is under control! Thats just "democracy" in action... *wink* Even if Bernie were to WIN, WTO and the other secret deals render the issues moot

To be blunt- he could not DO any of the "economic stimulus" "New Deal" "health care", "public education" stuff he says because it would violate the deals rules..

Europeans:"Standstill", ratchet clauses in trade deals are a direct attack on Democracy, must be rem

I wanted to share this with people, it appears that our European friends are speaking up against these horrible deals that freeze progress and take away the right to regulate under the guise of investment protection.

We especially cannot afford to be rapped in for profit health insurance and for profit education and higher education by the one way ratchet (which would be better called a noose) They tighten with every movement - traping nations forever and nullifying the results of this and all future elections. Thats the point behind them.

For a description of how that happened to the Slovak Republic read this paper about healthcare and TPP by Canadian NGO The Council of Canadians / CCPA

Nicholas Skala RIP - Single Payer Health Care Activist, Law Student, Died August 8 2009 - What Happe

NOTE: I have no idea why this brilliant healthy 27 yo activist law student, Mr. Skala, who had dedicated his life to the cause of passing single payer, suddenly passed away or whether he had any serious health conditions, etc. (He did not look unhealthy at all in videos of him that I had seen like the one right below)

But simply explaining i away by stress (of having a House hearing upon which trillions of dollars in profits and likely millions of lives hung in the balance...coming up in just a few days.) doesnt seem so likely even under the circumstances- because so much money is involved and because it made such a huge difference to the global perception of thel US health insurance industry's image - and exporting of the health insurance model to the rest of the world as "the only possible future" the goal of a 22 year long process which began with the creation of the World Trade Organiztion and the GATS agreement - one of whose principal intentios is clearly preventing a withdrawal from the sphere of economic control because of the huge profits preservation of the health insurance model represented in a world where access to legal help was declining and governments were increasingly complicit in needless denial of care in a medical economics experiment that they already knew would fail, reminiscent of textbook cases in medical ethics tomes.

The locking down of the huge profits depended on no debate ever being able to actually occur and Obamacare staying in place and maintaining the illusion until more legitimate looking trade agreements (such as the one currently being negotiated in tight secrecy in Geneva) could somehow be signed without any public knowledge or real scrutiny.

WTO Ruling shows a hint of how existing and pending FTAs likely willframe ending "New Deal" Programs

Note that all these rules work both ways!

So, under TiSA (and the existing GATS Mode Four) we cannot exclude foreign firms and their workers..and remain in compliance with WTO as soon as a service sector becomes international trade it falls under their jurisdiction and they can alter laws as they did in 1999 with Glass-Steagall act that until then had protected us from what happened in 2008, and again recently with the COOL country of origin label requirements.

"India’s solar initiative, known as the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), is designed to boost the nation’s renewable energy use and create local, green jobs. India’s program requires the purchase of domestically manufactured solar cells and modules in order for companies to receive a variety of government benefits, including favorable rates for electricity purchases. The U.S. Trade Representative charged that India’s “local content requirements” violate WTO national treatment obligations (which require foreign firms to be treated the same as domestic firms). The WTO agreed."

"In responding to the WTO ruling, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman issued a warning to other governments attempting to support local, green businesses: “This is an important outcome, not just as it applies to this case, but for the message it sends to other countries considering discriminatory `localization’ policies.”

Because apparently India's press has still managed to avoid the high level of corporate control, or perhaps because India actually has/(had?) a Constitutional right to education - there has miraculously been a debate about the normally suppressed GATS that never occurred in the US in 1994 when the GATS was passed as the "Uruguay Round Agreements Act" basically giving away our elf-imagined rights to have a government communicate such important changes to the public it seems that whatever Administration was in power in 1994 did NOT. However, one can read about the issues that we should have been able to read about 20 years ago, in the Indian (the most populous nation in the world) press over the last year. (My hunch is that the US may manage to get them to signup to abolish public health care and education in exchange for the commercial model by promising them ~~~access to healthcare~~~ access to lots of "Mode Four" jobs.

Voting Machine vulnerabilities first warned about in the early 2000's in NJ still have not been fixe

This post is basically an attempt to provide a jumping off spot for people to read articles about a vulnerable voting machine problem, which leading computer scientists in the world warned a state about before they even purchased the machines.

One has to wonder, with experts like that telling them not to, why they went ahead and bought them anyway. That should be a red flag as to the system's - something.

Many many papers have been written about their many vulnerabilities, enough to serve as a sort of introduction to many concepts in computer security and embedded devices.

The literature would also be entertaining, if it was not so tragic. One can only speculate as to how many NJ politicians would not have won their seats were older, less easily manipulated without leaving a trace methods (like optically scannable paper ballots which are largely unhackable, and scanners for them which can be built using very short and easily read open source code and off the shelf components available at any department store for a cost of under $300 per voting station. Paper ballots can be audited after the election if there are questions, these touch screen voting machines - built using 1980s technology, dont maintain any permanent record of votes cast in an unhackable form.)

This year I think it will make 14 years that various organizations - including one of the leading universities in computer science in the world's- entire computer science department, have been begging the state, firs not to buy them (yes, they knew they were obsolete before buying them!) and then, to get rid of them.

One of the co-authors of the "C" programming language and an important developer of the Unix operating system - (really!) - as close as one gets to royalty in the world of computer science, with more credibility in the technology world than businessmen like Bill Gates / Steve Jobs, etc- testified as to their insecurity - against the state's consultant.

The machines are now sold for as little as $25 each (plus SHIPPING) on Internet auction sites like govdeals.

So any researcher - or crook- who wants to learn how to hack them can buy one of their own.

Here is an entertaining web page by Princeton professor Andrew Apfel on the issue:
