Trump and Big Lie believers: Fools or liars?

After January 6th, it becomes clear that Trump supporters fall into two camps:

1) The fools. Those that really, truly continue to believe every bit of populist propaganda from the Right and from the Trump cult. They are the ones that actually believe that America will be "great" once our democracy has been abolished and one-party rule is established once and for all.

2) The liars. These are the smart ones that know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Trump lost the election of 2020, but are shrewd enough to understand that the path to American Fascism is paved with lies. They will continue to spread the poison that is eroding confidence in our system of elections. Trump isn't stupid, he knows he lost the election. He also knows the power of misinformation and the gullibility of many Americans. He has practiced the art of lying his whole life, and the Big Lie is without a doubt his "masterpiece".

Point is, after January 6th there are very few fence riders supporting Trump. They must double down as either fools or liars. Not sure which is more dangerous in the long run, the puppet masters or the puppets.

Ask CNN and WPOST to make THE FIGHT TO SAVE AMERICAN DEMOCRACY free as a public service

I sent the following email to CNN and to Washington Post, and will follow up with similar postings on twitter and Facebook.

I believe it is very important for Fareed Zakaria's THE FIGHT TO SAVE AMERICAN DEMOCRACY to reach every single American. To achieve this, we should copy this request on every social media platform, as well as via email.

Right now the program is not available to freely stream, as far as I know.

Subject: Please make THE FIGHT TO SAVE AMERICAN DEMOCRACY free as a public service

Dear CNN, Washington Post and Fareed,

After watching Fareed Zakaria's incredibly important summary of the crisis we are facing here in the USA to preserve our democracy, I would propose that CNN and the Washington Post work together to provide THE FIGHT TO SAVE AMERICAN DEMOCRACY in it's entirety for free with no limitations, on every social media platform.

This is not business as usual - freely providing this important report to the American public is a tiny price to pay to preserve our way of life - and in the end your enterprises as well.

In fact I would predict that your viewing/readership public will reward you greatly for your benevolence.

Let's hope and pray that Fareed's message is well understood by an American public that in many ways has been asleep at the wheel.

Best Regards,

Canada fears US will be right wing dictatorship by 2030

This article says a lot about the way the rest of the world views what is happening in the USA.

Quotes from Thomas Homer-Dixon, founding director of the Cascade Institute at Royal Roads University in British Columbia.

“We mustn’t dismiss these possibilities just because they seem ludicrous or too horrible to imagine,”

“In 2014, the suggestion that Donald Trump would become president would also have struck nearly everyone as absurd. But today we live in a world where the absurd regularly becomes real and the horrible commonplace.”

“By 2025, American democracy could collapse, causing extreme domestic political instability, including widespread civil violence. By 2030, if not sooner, the country could be governed by a rightwing dictatorship.”

I think many of us have seen this possibility coming for years, but to see this bluntly expressed by our neighbor to the North is truly sobering.

Smerconish poll of the day: Will US map be the same in 50 years? Thoughts?

This morning Smerconish question of the day was: "Will the map of the USA be the same in 50 years as it is today?"

Around 53% said no. About 47% said yes.

I'm with the "nos" on this. May be an uncomfortable opinion, but I believe that the neo-Fascist Right is on the way to assuming power in the US. I guess it's a "victory" for them if we consider usurping the Constitution and establishing an autocracy of one form or another as "winning".

The have the momentum, they have the roadmap for a successful coup, and they have the most powerful propaganda machine in history - the Internet. Plus I don't see the Left or the Democrats waking up in time to ensure the guardrails remain in place, they should have started on that in earnest a decade ago. And I don't see the ~40% of Americans that are fully apathetic with their noses buried in their electronic toys waking up either. By the time they do awaken they will be under the boot.

To me the real question is what happens AFTER the coup, we've already crossed the Rubicon about IF a rightwing coup will occur. If it's not 2024 it will be 2028 or 2032, but there is little doubt that we are steadily moving toward one-party rule here in the USA.

I used to think that secession was improbable, that we'd never see the breakup of the US as we now know it, but I no longer think that is true. Exactly how that will happen is the big question. Hard to imagine it can take place without civil war at some level; but there are quite a few that are advocating for having those discussions now, rather than descending into open warfare and needless bloodshed. Monied interests here in the USA would much rather have a diplomatic division than a civil war, that's for sure.
