Kenya demands total ivory ban to stop elephant slaughter

Although I think this is great. My second thought is: "Are you SERIOUS!!! There isn't a total ban right NOW!!!??? Jesus H Fkn Christ!

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday demanded a total ban on trade in ivory to end trafficking and prevent the extinction of elephants in the wild.

"To lose our elephants would be to lose a key part of the heritage that we hold in trust. Quite simply, we will not allow it," Kenyatta said in the keynote speech at a meeting which groups African heads of state and conservationists to boost awareness of the threat of poaching.

113-Year-Old Jersey Girl Named America's Oldest Living Resident

A 113-year-old New Jersey woman has been named America's oldest living resident.

Adele Dunlap was born on December 12, 1902 in Newark, New Jersey. She became the record holder on July 8, the Gerontology Research Group confirmed to ABC News.

Adele is currently 113 years, 7 months and 1 week old.

"She is lovely," said Susan Dempster, activities director of the Country Arch Care Center in Pittstown, where Adele lives. "She's quiet, but will raise her hand when she needs to be heard. She attends church, entertainment and the word games activities. This week, we announced [the record title] at an event. She nodded and everyone clapped for her. It's really sinking in a little bit for her. She's our local celebrity now."

I'm just interested. I don't know the answer. I just think 4 hours is pretty short.

EpiPen price is crazy, anyone know of an alternative?

I was about to pay for EpiPen but found out it's $376 for 2, and $3 less for a generic. Major reaction to bee/wasp stings. There has to be a better alternative. Anyone here have experience with this. Who can afford this? It expires just after a year! Much appreciated.

Experts say most illegal ivory heads for China, where it is seen as a status symbol. By some estimates the country accounts for as much as 70 percent of global demand

But the US-based Environmental Investigation Agency, a campaign group, covertly filmed four ivory traders in different cities in Japan who showed no hesitation in selling ivory to Chinese buyers.

An undercover EIA investigator presented himself as a Chinese buyer and explicitly showed that he was willing to send ivory to China, EIA president Allan Thornton told reporters as the group showed the footage.

"You came too late," a trader in Osaka is shown saying. "We sold so many ivory tusks that ivory has been vanishing from Japan."

Another trader in the central Japanese city of Gifu said: "I don't care, Okay? Illegal is okay."

SOS elephants: Kenya summit on poaching crisis

Kenya’s poaching trend has gone down because of tough anti-poaching policies. But the director of Kenya’s wildlife service, Kitili Mbathi, told Al Jazeera that they cannot afford to be complacent.

"Poachers are getting more sophisticated, and they are running out of territory to carry out their business so we also have to be very careful to seal all the loopholes so that they do not end up coming here," he said.

Also, Kenya is a popular transit country for ivory headed largely to Asia. Conservationists say that elephants can be protected only if all the countries involved work together.
