About Me

Progressive in the Midwest, a transplant from both coasts, homesick for the eastern one. Traipsing the line between calling it like I see it and knowing when to keep my thoughts to myself. *note: I slip a lot.

Dr. West said it best

Cornel West: Why the US Empire Is More Ripe for Right-Wing Revolution Than from the Left
Cornel West talks Bernie Sanders’ neopopulism and Donald Trump’s neofascism.
By George Souvlis / Open Democracy
June 13, 2016

Cornel West (CW): We are at a crossroads in American history. We must choose between a neofascism in the making (Trump), neoliberalism in the decaying (Clinton), and a neopopulism in the ascending (Sanders). The establishments in both the Democratic and Republican parties are disintegrating.

Indeed.

Not With Her, Still a Feminist

I am a middle aged, educated black woman. According to all the data, I should be with her. Sorry, but no. I’m with Bernie, and will remain with Bernie all the way to the convention.

I can write a long essay about why I am the exception to the rule, I probably would give some insight into Hillary’s weaknesses but, honestly, why bother? Our so called democracy was already teetering on the edge of absurdity as it is. Hillary clinched it, indeed.

The media is even worse, what the AP did, and what Matthews at msnbc was going to do, should be the dominating headlines for weeks. Not the breaking of glass ceilings bit. She may have broken the glass, but she is not historic. She’s an embarrassment.

I want a woman president more than you would think, I am and have been a proud feminist for years, decades even. I want to shout and celebrate with glorious pride for the first woman president like I did for the first black president, but not like this.

Food for thought – just imagine if Cain, or Carson for that matter, was the first black president? Would we be so proud? Nah.
Her gender alone is not enough. Not even close.

Never settle, my dear sisters. Never settle.

Why HRC is bad for black people, the shorter version

There’s just no nice way to say it and it since it must be said..

She protects the beneficiaries of division, racial division included. She supports the very reasons race was invented in the first place, she’s got their backs, not ours. While she may create policies that target structural racism, Missy H does this while America morphs into a country of worsening class division. Poor black people are not going to benefit because opportunities are not enough to level the playing field for them. On the contrary, her friends up top need their chattel in jails. Latte liberals are the new "moderate" republican.

To go one further, who better than Trump to scare people into voting against their own interests? The Clintons didn’t just do their part in co-opting the Democratic Party with neoliberalism, they use GOP tactics to keep the co-option going.

Not a damn thing would change under another Clinton presidency, just more of the same with new labels, new faces and more races.

The second she doesn’t need us anymore, she’ll disappear. Count on it. You know how that go.

I am prepared for her to prove me wrong.
