REM was so badass for so long but some of their later music is ignored

It's only natural I suppose, people move on and the flavor of the month changes...

What seemed revolutionary in the 80s seems Corporate 25 years later.

It's a shame but very few artists last that long to begin with and the few who make it rarely stay at their peak popularity.

All of that is true, but it doesn't touch the genius of the band. This song is a quintessential REM rocker.
The guitar work s deceptively hard.
The rhythm shifts and shimmers in subtle ways.
The vocals are classic Michael Stipe.
And of course the lyrics are vague and bewildering

My favorite REM song is still "Driver 8", but "Low Desert" is a close second and no one ever plays it on the radio...

Bootinup is killing it lately, posting a band I really respect and enjoy...

DEVO.

I keep reading folks saying they don't "get" DEVO but musically they fit right in to the 60s-80s North Ohio music scene and philosophically they were just punks railing against the death of individual freedom and autonomy.

Punks with Art degrees - Much like the Talking Heads.

But they sound so WEIRD people say. Well no, not really.

Just mix Akron's own garage rock heroes Tin Huey:

With the resident Ohio Funk scene such as Ohio Players or these guys:

And then listen to DEVO again

My boy has probably fulfilled the dream of millions of bros nationwide.

Because his girlfriend is a brew master at a local craft brew pub. I will ppoint out that the Polack male child is NOT A BRO - he has never even once crushed a beer can on his forehead. Be that as it may his SO is a lovely young lady

I had met her before, briefly - but she spent thanksgiving day with us and brought a few (about 12) unlabeled samples of her work.

An IPA, a Pils and a Belgian style Witbier. I had one of each and they seem competently crafted and representative of the styles.
Also STRONG

My future Son (IL) can't cook or make beer, but is a habitually employed Air Force reservist and full time DISA computer network analyst. Who most importantly - obviously loves my daughter fully and completely.

So we had a great day together and I hope all of my DU homies can honestly say the same

No fuck headed racist shits at my Thanksgiving Dinner is truly something to be thankful for.

A while ago did a "Most underrated Guitarist still alive" thread

Dave Rawlings came up a couple times.

I admitted that I was completely ignorant of his work, and was told to check out the stuff with Gillian Welch.

See, THIS is why I do those type of OPs.

Thanks for the tip. Stay with this vid long enough to listen to them morph "Method Actor" into "Cortez The Killer"

My goodness

If I had a time machine, I'd use it

to take high quality recording equipment back to the 30s and record guys like Scrapper Blackwell.
