Bernie Sanders is inadvertently damaging the Democratic Party

Bernie says you can't be a progressive and a moderate at the same time. This reminds me of the Republican Tea Partiers who want to close down the GOP to all but the radical right. Efforts to create the Republican "Big Tent" have failed miserably and the GOP has been weakened significantly by that failure.

This has been the Achilles heel of Republican party in the last few Presidential elections. Ultra conservative Republican candidates have forced their more moderate and electable candidates to adopt stances which are more conservative than they are comfortable with in order to win their party's nomination. Once they have that nomination those stances have been their downfall in the General Election.

That is exactly what Bernie is doing in an effort to win a pitiful few delegates in in extremely liberal New Hampshire. While now Sanders is obviously in it to win it, one the prime goal of his campaign early on has been to pull Hillary further to the left. He is succeeding.

I strenuously object to the notion that one cannot be a progressive and moderate at the same time. I like many Clinton supporters believe strongly in many of the same progressive values which Bernie professes. We disavow many of the values that Republicans seem to cherish. We are all on the same side folks. What makes some of us moderate progressives is how far we are willing to go to accommodate political reality.

This is what the the Democratic party should be about - a party which deeply rooted in progressive values, but realistic enough in its positions to take and keep the White House. Political ideals without political power is the height of frustration. We cannot be like the Republicans who eat their own, who make their candidates virtually unelectiable.

We can not afford to make the same mistakes as the Republicans. We cannot be constantly fighting among ourselves because that weakens us to external forces. We can and must build a big tent in the Democratic Party where progressives from the far left to the very moderate can all peacefully coexist together. We must succeed where the Republicans have failed. That is the only way we will have the strength to put our ideas into practice.

The jury system is totally out of wack

This afternoon I was a jury where someone called another poster a .... |(well, you can read the name used for yourself below), yet the jury decision was to leave the post alone. Since when is calling someone a ........ not a personal attack.

This is getting ridiculous. On the other hand, people have been hid for a lot less than that, like calling the a statement in a post "irrational". That's a comment about someone's statement, not a personal attack on poster who stated the opinion.

Obviously who someone supports for the nomination has a lot more influence on jury decisions on this board than the behavior they exhibited. People who indulge in these exhibitions of prejudice (there is nothing else you can call it), do not deserve the proud title of "progressive".

Other people are lurking in the groups of their candidate's opponent specifically to alert on posts made in those supposedly protected environments. How childish and petty.

And aren't bright enough to express ourselves without littering our posts with words we wouldn't use in front of children?

I could understand these kinds of reprehensible behaviors on a site called the Republican Underground or from a bunch of internet brats who lose all sense of manners and decorum every time they get a mouse or a smart phone in their hands, but not here on a site reserved for people who are supposed to value free speech and civil behavior. Right now we ample reason to be ashamed of ourselves.

Oh you and I aren't guilty because we never act like that. Well, when people on "our side" indulge in bad behavior and those of us that segment tolerate it and do not call them out, then we essentially condone that behavior so we share some guilt. And I must admit I am personally guilty of this.

While we we may disagree on just about everything in this in this race for the nomination, can't we at least quit acting like a bunch of uncivilized Republicans.

Here the text of the jury decision email:

Remember those huge, enthusastic crowds at Bernie rallies in Iowa

Remember how they were supposed to translate into actual votes. Maybe not so much.

February 2, 2016

There will be a winner in Iowa and there will be a loser...

Only the loser will declare it a tie.

I just contributed again to the Clinton campaign - please join me right now.

An army travels on its stomach.

A campaign travels on its wallet.

I just listened to Bernie Sanders brag about his contributions. He got me riled up.

Please join me in giving whatever you manage.

Iowa county count

With the race is so close it is important understand which caucuses in which counties have not yet reported their results. With 93% of the caucus reports in:

67 caucuses in counties where Hillary is leading are out

23 caucuses in counties where Sanders is leading are out

With a lead already I think we are safe.

Love that Cruz won in Iowa

Great news for our side - easier to beat than Trump because the Establishment of his own party hates him. Some Republican's will not vote for him.
