The concert I didn't go to in 1969

During my high school days, I tried to bum a ride to concerts because I didn’t have a car. One day my friend offered me a ticket to see Led Zeppelin in Orange Country California. I told him I get back to him in a day. I never heard A Led Zeppelin song. I knew this band came from the ruins of the Yardbirds. I bought their 45 single on Atlantic Records: A whole lotta of Lovin. The flip side was: She just a Woman. I slapped the Vinyl donut on my Sears record player and…and…nothing happened. I was bored as student attending a lecture on the economy in Finland. There were some factors in my dislike for this song. Robert Plants voice. It was really grating like fingernails on a chalkboard. His voice sounded like a chicken getting chocked to death. There were too excessive echo-plex sound effects during the guitar break. I called my buddy that night and told him: Thanks, but no thanks.
One Christmas somebody bought me Physical Graffiti: Zeppelins double album. I listened to it once, then twice and it sat on my shelf for 2 decades.
This band was the official band for long hair white guys in California in the 70’s and 80’s. Critics labeled them Heavy Metal. Not! They were commercial limp hard rock. The Canadian band “Rush” was called Heavy Metal! Misnomer! They were Libertarian whip power pop. Hell! I remember when some music award show put Jethro Tull in a Heavy Metal category. They called the best metal band that year.
I’m glad I didn’t go to that gig.

Profile in cowardice.

Profile in cowardice. Back in the 60’s & 70’s, conservatives use to whine about permissive parents and lenient judges who let guilty criminals go free. Now the conservatives are treating Trump like he is a misunderstood man. The Republicans act like serial killer mother moms. Oh! My poor baby isn’t a bad boy! They treat his PROVEN crime like it is some type of misdemeanor like jay walking. Well…. extortion is not a peccadillo. Read my commentary on my Blog.
