Iowa's presidential caucuses were expected to draw record turnout Monday, but early data from the NBC News entrance poll show a big dip in participants attending a Democratic caucus for the first time.

The entrance poll showed just about a third of voters — 35 percent — caucusing this year are first-timers, a lower level than in 2016, when first-timers made up 44 percent of the Hawkeye State's Democratic caucusgoers.

And this year's level of new participants is well shy of that in 2008, when a whopping 57 percent of Democrats said they had never caucused before.

On Monday, York University in Toronto, Canada opened its Multicultural Week Parade, a yearly exhibition to promote and celebrate cultural diversity on campus.

But not all students fully embodied the event's message, deciding to spread hate and antisemitism instead.

As an undergraduate at the new school, a very liberal college, I would roll my eyes whenever my dad talked about Israel and its importance. He is the son of Holocaust survivors, so it’s no wonder why he saw Israel as necessary for the survival of the Jewish people. On the other hand, I was content being a white New York City girl with Jewish heritage. When I went on a Birthright trip in 2014 (at the behest of my mom), I was incredibly skeptical, especially when our Israeli tour guide told us he identified as a Zionist. That was a loaded term I could not imagine claiming.

Now, I can.

This past fall, I started law school at City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law. I knew CUNY’s undergraduate institutions were a collage of leftist anti-Semitism. But I figured graduate school, especially law school, would be different. People would be older and perhaps more interested in engaging with differing points of view. I could not have been more wrong.

Maybe it was my fault for not doing enough research into this issue. If I had, I would have found out much earlier about how one of the law clinics here was in hot water for allegedly partnering with a Palestinian rights group with ties to terrorist organizations. I admit that coming here as a Jew who doesn’t hate Israel was likely a mistake — but one I didn’t discover until I was already in the brunt of it.

At the beginning of the semester, there was a fair for all the on-campus student groups. I saw SJP had a table, which many people visited. I noticed someone wearing a hoodie that in my eyes, promoted the ethnic cleansing of Jews in Israel. It featured a map of Israel with the words “Free Palestine,” and Palestinian flags. On top of being a divisive message, the design was just really ugly. I snapped a picture not thinking I caused any harm. There were no faces or identifying information in the image. I posted it to my Twitter and to r/baddesigns on Reddit.

At least four people were hospitalized after an angry mob of at least 30 people armed with sticks and knives attacked Jewish pilgrims Friday night in Ukraine's town of Uman.

The incident was reported by head of Ukraine's Jewish Committee Eduard Dolinsky in a Facebook post on Sunday.

According to local media reports, the pogrom-style attack began with a minor strife between a Jew and one of the local residents.

The situation escalated as the Uman resident called in his friends to stage violent attacks on Jews, as 112.ua reported.

According to the witness accounts cited by the outlets, the police arrived on the scene but did little to protect the victims as the mob raged through the town, specifically seeking out Jews.

Referring to the incident as a 'pogrom', Dolinsky said the Uman Jews will set up self-defense groups due to the authorities' inaction.

Yonatan Herzfeld was taking the S train from Grand Central Station to Times Square at approximately 3:30 p.m. when he was chased off the subway car by an African-American male.

The middle-aged man was “shouting about my kippa and drawing a circle, referring to my kippa [skullcap] saying, ‘what’s that you got on your head,’” Herzfeld said.

As the situation escalated and the assailant shouted more slurs, Herzfeld took out his phone to record the anti-Semitic incident.

“I wanted to have evidence for whatever he was about to do,” said Herzfeld, a student at Stony Brook University. “He then chased me off the train so fast I couldn’t even grab my suitcase and I had to circle back into the train to get it. The train closed and I stood as far from him as I could.”

Herzfeld ran away from the suspect, shouting for help on the subway platform in the middle of one of New York City’s busiest stations. However, no one attempted to help him. In videos posted on Facebook, witnesses are seen staring at the student while he runs across the platform.

“No one did anything when I was screaming for help,” he said. “Many were yelling at me to stop filming him, telling me that I brought the incident upon myself.

A Jersey City man is accused of threatening to “bomb all of the Jews” in Jersey City less than a week after the deadly attack on a kosher grocery store in Greenville, according to court documents.

Darryl Jacobs, 47, allegedly made the threat during a Dec. 13 phone call with a county welfare worker and was arrested three days later. Police did not recover any explosives, but seized two cell phones, the criminal complaint states.

The defendant told the welfare employee, who did not know him, that he “was going to come down and bomb all the Jews in Jersey City,” according to the court document.

A Syracuse University professor was threatened by an anonymous email sent to her that contained hostile, anti-Semitic language and referenced the Holocaust.

Genevieve García de Müeller, a professor of writing, rhetoric and composition, told The Daily Orange that she received the message around 10:40 a.m. The email, sent via anonymousemail, told her to “get in the oven where you belong.” It ended by using an anti-Semitic slur.

The subject line of the email read “JEW.”

Müeller said she called the Department of Public Safety after receiving the email. DPS directed her to the Syracuse Police Department because the incident occurred while she was off-campus, she said. She also tweeted a screenshot of the email sent to her at about noon on Tuesday.

One of the founders of Extinction Rebellion was plunged in controversy on Wednesday over remarks in which he allegedly questioned the significance of the Holocaust.

Roger Hallam, a former organic farmer in south Wales who co-founded the global activist movement, described the Holocaust as “just another f***ery in human history”, according to Zeit, a leading German newspaper.

Extinction Rebellion’s German chapter issued an immediate statement distancing itself “explicitly” from the remarks and saying Mr Hallam was “no longer welcome” in Germany.

Mr Hallam has previously come under fire for a speech he gave at an Amnesty International event earlier this year in which he compared the climate emergency to Auschwitz.
