Most everyone here loved Greenwald

during the Bush years because he was one of the most hard hitting columnists on the net. Go back a few years: http://www.salon.com/writer/glenn_greenwald/

But then 2009 came, and instead of twisting his principles like a pretzel he kept writing about the same things (drone bombs, war, MIC) and his popularity sank like a rock. People may one day pretend to care about those things again but anyone paying attention will see right through their fake concerns.

Guardian: Petition for second EU referendum may have been manipulated

Data shows people from countries including Iceland and Tunisia backed petition that should be signed only by Britons and UK residents

A petition calling for a second EU referendum which has gained more than 3 million signatures is under investigation by parliamentary authorities.



The House of Commons petitions committee has confirmed that 77,000 signatures, which were added fraudulently, have been removed. A tweet by the committee said that it would continue to monitor the petition for suspicious activity.

The request for another referendum on the parliament’s official petitions website should have been signed only by British citizens and UK residents.

However, the petition’s data showed signatories from countries around the world, including Iceland, the Cayman Islands and Tunisia, and in some cases there are more signatures than total population.

Despite Vatican City, a tiny city state, having a total population of just 800, over 39,000 residents of Vatican City appeared to have signed the petition....snip

“Nearly a year ago an effort began to inform legislators about the Speech and Debate Clause in the Constitution which could be applied to revealing the 28 pages. This clause protected former Sen. Mike Gravel when he read the Pentagon Papers into the congressional record. This effort began with a legal article by whistleblower attorney, Mick Harrison, in collaboration with Barbara Honegger. Other attorneys aided with research. Mike Gravel, himself, reviewed the article. With the help of Jeff Steinberg and other legislative activists in DC, Gravel delivered the article to Walter Jones, Rand Paul, and Ron Wyden.”



In this interview Sen. Gravel discusses the 28 pages and other 9/11 issues, opining forthrightly that “9/11 was an inside job.” Sen. Gravel also discusses the anthrax component of the 9/11-anthrax false flag event; voices his suspicions about possible post-9/11 false flag terror events; explains that the US is not a democracy; mentions Obama’s fears of going the way of JFK if he took on the military-industrial complex; and even touches on the UFO issue.

In the EU referendum about whether or not the UK should remain in the European Union, the UK government warned that leaving the EU could mean 10 years of uncertainty as new trade deals are formed, and even a collapse of the UK economy with a year of recession.

Meanwhile, the news media and anti-EU politicians concentrated on the topic of immigration, leaving the general public in fear of increasing migrants who will drain the economy and swarm their towns (source).

This same fear mongering happened in Norway when they held a referendum in 1994 (source); yet Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland, as non-EU members within Europe, enjoy some of the highest living standards in the world.

Iceland was also the only country to put bankers in prison instead of bail them out (source) and Norway will ban the sale of all fossil fuel-based cars in the next decade (source)...

...That is the role of the European Commission, which consists of 28 commissioners — one for each member country. These people are not elected but chosen by each country’s current leader. It is these unelected commissioners who create the laws, not the leaders or MEPs we vote in.....snip

USC chemists turn greenhouse gas into hydrogen fuel

The new method generates hydrogen and stores it efficiently, and without further polluting the environment

A future with hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles and hydrogen-powered smartphones is much closer to reality.

USC researchers have found a clean method of turning greenhouse gas into hydrogen fuel, according to a study published recently in the journal Nature Communications. They believe they are the first to have developed this method.

Researchers had been stuck on a significant challenge holding up the development and commercialization of this technology: generating and storing hydrogen effectively, and without further polluting the environment.

Chemists at the USC Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute found a way to produce hydrogen while also recycling harmful carbon dioxide through the dehydrogenation of formic acid. And, unlike prior methods, the catalyst that they developed in-house releases hydrogen without involving more pollutants.

Formic acid occurs naturally in the venom of bee and ant stings or through the decay of vegetation. It also can be made by reacting carbon dioxide with hydrogen. So it appeals to scientists as a carrier and storage reservoir for hydrogen...snip

Solar, wind costs could fall up to 59 percent by 2025, study says

The average cost of electricity generated by solar and wind energy could fall by up to 59 percent by 2025 if the right policies are in place, a report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) said on Wednesday.



Since 2009, solar photovoltaic (PV) module prices have fallen by 80 percent and wind turbine prices have fallen by around 30-40 percent as renewable energy capacity has grown to record levels and technologies have improved.

Solar and wind technologies can continue to fall in price to 2025 and beyond if governments set policies to minimize transaction costs and to streamline administrative procedures and approval processes, the report said.

IRENA estimates the global weighted average levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of solar PV could fall by 59 percent by 2025 from 2015; the LCOE of offshore wind could fall by 35 percent and the LCOE of onshore wind by 26 percent...snip
