Miles Archer
Miles Archer's JournalThe GREATEST live rock album of all time?
I've been listening to Humble Pie's "Performance - Rockin' The Fillmore - The Complete Recordings."
The original album was pulled from two day's worth of perfomances, afternoon and evening shows. The box set has the full 4-show run. This may not be "THE" greatest live album...I would definitely put it in my top 10, though, along with The Allman Brothers' own Fillmore set.
What's YOUR pick?

Rolling Stone's "Keith Richards: Goodnight Spoon" comic is pretty cool.
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/goodnight-spoon-keith-richards-lost-kiddie-classicI am a big fan of "underground comix" like ZAP, as well as a lifetime Stones fan. If you're in either of the two camps, you will enjoy this.
My radio show tonight (8 PM Eastern) is a one hour tribute to Jack Bruce.
I've had problems in the past on DU with lurking freeper dickwads snagging info I have posted here and following the breadcrumbs to my real name. Nothing ever came of it beyond empty threats from their momma's basement, but why tempt fate, ya know?
That means I can't just post the link here, or I would. Blame Rim Job Billy Joe Jim Bob Robinson and his band of clueless inbred weasels.
BUT...I know my posse, so if you're in it, PM me and I'll send you the info needed to tune in. I'd love to have you along for the ride.
The LOGO on Yertle the Turtle's "Team Mitch" jacket is WEAK. DU could make a BETTER one, I'll bet.
Well, like Mitt said, the Senate HAS to go red so they can get 'er done.
I do understand that there are people who are going to hear that talking point...the Senate has to swing to Republican control so that they can "end the gridlock" and "get bills on the President's desk" and "he'll sign some and veto others" but they'll finally be able to "get things done"...and BELIEVE it. That's TRAGIC.
That doesn't mean that my head doesn't explode every time they play the clip.
It's been an amazing 6 months. I have worked behind the scenes for a candidate back in Nevada (yes, she is a Democrat). Her opponent went all out for the mudslinging and personal attacks. The election, overall, has been one of the most contentious I've seen...and not just for my friend but for the other positions on the ballot as well. I have been the word smith, I have handled the social media, and I even though I was an English major at San Jose State, it has only been in the last 6 months that I have come to appreciate the power of words...how they can assure people, how they can manipulate them, how little words mean when they come from certain people and how much they can mean when they come from others.
It has been a rare and humbling experience, when her opponent has been talking out of her ass, to sit down and compose a response that says "My opponent has been talking out of her ass" in the most professional and precise way. It's clear that my friend's opponent assumed she'd just go in and do some backstabbing without resistance. It's now to the point where she cannot look my friend in the eye...she just clenches up like the sphincter of a person who's eaten too much cheese.
November 4th is going to be a game-changer, one way or another. My wish is that Mitt goes down in flames yet again, that he won't experience the joy of "Republicans getting things done."

Oh...and VOTE, too.
Low election turnout perpetuates income inequality and social injustice

With Election Day approaching on November 4th, Americans are faced with a perennial question: to vote or not to vote? In the last midterm election, in 2010, only 47 percent of the eligible population voted. Voting patterns typically break down along clear demographic lines: Non-voters tend to be low-income, young and people of color, while those who vote tend to older, whiter and richer than the population at large. Over the last three elections, voter turnout has been consistently 30 points higher among the highest income bracket (those earning more than $150,000 a year) than those in the lowest (those earning less than $10,000). Recent research on the top one percent of the wealth distribution millionaires suggests that members of this group turn out to vote at the staggering rate of 99 percent.
For a long time, political scientists believed that this voting gap was immaterial, and that voters were effectively a "carbon copy" of the non-voting population. They argued that this meant that non-voters were still adequately represented in elections. For a long time, this was likely true but since the late 1980s the class bias in the voting electorate has increased dramatically. At the same, public opinions on economic redistribution, government and regulation have polarized, with the rich rejecting the New Deal consensus in favor of laissez-faire lunacy. This means that our current election system is not representing what Americans really think. Here are five ways that our country would be different if everyone voted:
