Lawsuit alleges some Costco-labeled shrimp caught by slaves "whipped with toxic stingray tails"

Federal lawsuit demands Costco label shrimp packaging 'product of slavery'

http://www.reviewjournal.com/business/retail/federal-lawsuit-demands-costco-label-shrimp-packaging-product-slavery

The lawsuit, which also wants Costco to stop buying shrimp from its suppliers in Thailand, was filed in California. It alleges that Costco is deceiving customers by not including an advisory about slavery on product packaging.

The plaintiffs claim that the United Nations and the U.S. State Department have established that Thai shrimp producers depend on slave labor.

According to the suit, Thai shrimp commonly sold in the United States comes from farms, and is not fished in the wild. But the feed for the farmed shrimp comes from the slave-staffed fishing boats known as "ghost ships."

Workers on those boats are kept in cages to prevent them from escaping, the suit claims. The workers are whipped with toxic stingray tails and shocked with Taser-like devices, according to the suit.

One of my conservative friends posted a "Carly Fiorina for Secretary of State" graphic on Facebook.

It wasn't a joke.

Trump for President.

Cruz for Vice President.

About 6 others including Fiorina.

I'm still kind of numb all over from seeing it.

Axl & Slash, on speaking terms again. Eddie and Roth? Welll...2 G 'n' R guitarists DID quit.

Slash was in Sweden helping to promote the new Marshall London phone, and where he jammed with the band Graveyard. In the middle of an interview (watch above), the Swedish reporter for Aftonbladet TV seemed to randomly say, “I’ve heard that you’ve made friends with Axl Rose again.” Instead of dismissing the comment, Slash confirmed the news, saying, “It was probably way overdue, you know. But it’s…you know, it’s very cool at this point. You know, let some of that, sort of, negative … dispel some of that negative stuff that was going on for so long.”

It’s no secret that the relationship between the two musicians has been strained for a long time, as the two didn’t even speak to each other for years after Slash left GN’R in 1996. So the fact that they apparently are on friendly terms again is a significant development.

The reporter then took it one step further and asked the question that Slash has heard hundreds of time — whether the classic Guns N’ Roses lineup will perform again. Slash didn’t seem too pleased with that question, answering, “Oh, I couldn’t answer that one, though. All right, let’s get off the subject, ’cause, you know, that’s an old one.” Earlier this year, Slash said “never say never” to a similar question asked by an American TV station.

The current Guns N’ Roses lineup has recently said goodbye to two of its guitarists, with DJ Ashba leaving the group last month, and along with news that Bumblefoot had apparently left the group months ago. That has fueled speculation that a reunion of the classic lineup could be in the works, but there has been no confirmation of any kind.

"If I ask him to smile, he puts on a big grin, then he goes back to his Zoolander 'blue steel' look"

http://www.eonline.com/news/688188/donald-trump-holds-bald-eagle-for-time-magazine-is-compared-to-zoolander-see-the-photos

Donald Trump got up close and personal with an American bald eagle, named Uncle Sam, no less, in a photo shoot for Time magazine.

The 69-year-old Republican presidential candidate and real estate mogul appears solo on the cover of the outlet's latest issue. In another pic, he is seen standing in a room inside his Trump Tower building in New York City, dressed in a navy suit and royal blue tie, with his fine, feathered friend. The eagle is perched on his arm as he gives a thumbs up with the other.

Photographer Michael Schoeller told Time Trump was "a little hesitant" to hold the 27-year-old eagle and that the presidential candidate is "very difficult to photograph."

"If you ask him to look up a bit, he says no or he just doesn't do it," he said. "He literally has one angle. If I ask him to smile, he puts on a big grin and then he goes back to his Zoolander 'blue steel' look. And the 'blue steel' stays for as ever long as it takes to get the photograph."

Welcome to the official FUCK YOU TED CRUZ thread (criticizes Carter 1 day after cancer admission)

Ted Cruz Criticizes Jimmy Carter a Day After His Cancer Admission

by Mark Murray

In his "soapbox" remarks at the Iowa State Fair on Friday, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz criticized Jimmy Carter's presidency - a day after Carter's moving public admission about his cancer.

"I think where we are today is very, very much like the late 1970's. I think the parallels between this administration and the Carter administration are uncanny, same failed domestic policy, same misery, stagnation and malaise, same feckless and naive foreign policy. In fact, the exact same countries, Russia and Iran, openly laughing at and mocking the president of the United States."

When asked about the timing of his remarks, Cruz said, according to Bloomberg News: "We can always have a discussion about public policy."

Cruz added, "The public policy of the late 1970s didn't work. And the point that I made here that was so important is that in response to the failures of public policy in the late 1970s there was a grassroots movement of millions of men and women that rose up and became the Reagan revolution. And the same thing is happening today."

Sexual Addictions Therapist says pedophilia & OCD "might have made" Fogle's Subway diet "easier"

Sex addiction experts: Recovery won't be easy for Fogle
Shari Rudavsky, The Indianapolis Star 9:13 p.m. EDT August 20, 2015

http://www.wcnc.com/story/news/nation/2015/08/20/fogle-easy-road-recovery-sex-addiction-experts-say/32089669/

Fogle’s attorney, Jeremy Margolis, said Wednesday his client would undergo examination by a world-renowned expert in sexual conditions “in order to chart a course to recovery.” His lawyer continued to say that Fogle intends to become healthy again.

That might not be so easy.

Carol Juergensen Sheets, the only certified sexual addictions therapist in the Indianapolis area, says Fogle could have multiple problems, including pedophilia, sexual addiction and obsessive compulsive disorder — a condition she said might have made it easier for him to eat the same meal every day on his Subway diet.

Further, she said the fact that Fogle continued to seek sex with minors even after his colleague in both legal and illegal matters, Russell Taylor, was arrested on child pornography charges suggests that he had lost the ability to control himself.

Matt Taibbi, Rolling Stone: Donald Trump Just Stopped Being Funny

Donald Trump Just Stopped Being Funny

Win or lose, Trump's campaign threatens to unleash the Great American Stupid
By Matt Taibbi August 21, 2015

So two yahoos from Southie in my hometown of Boston severely beat up a Hispanic homeless guy earlier this week. While being arrested, one of the brothers reportedly told police that "Donald Trump was right, all of these illegals need to be deported."

When reporters confronted Trump, he hadn't yet heard about the incident. At first, he said, "That would be a shame." But right after, he went on:

"I will say, the people that are following me are very passionate. They love this country. They want this country to be great again. But they are very passionate. I will say that."

This is the moment when Donald Trump officially stopped being funny.

"Unknown green biting bugs" infest Burning Man site

RENO (AP) — The Burning Man site is swarming not with the thousands of guests expected to attend the annual event, but bugs.

The Reno Gazette Journal reports state officials are working to identify the coin-shaped green pests that are biting workers who are setting up the site.

More than 70,000 people are expected to attend Burning Man from Aug. 30 to Sept. 7.

Nevada Department of Agriculture state entomologist Jeff Knight says the bugs aren't bloodsuckers and do not seem to pose a health risk. He said these types of infestations usually only last a couple of weeks, and recent rains and bright lights used at night could be attracting the flying nibblers.

Nashville hotel cancels reservations for Council of Conservative Citizens event (white supremacists)

NASHVILLE -- The hotel where white supremacists planned to host an annual event this weekend has canceled the group's reservations, according to Guesthouse Inn director of sales Michelle Jameson.

Jameson said the hotel decided three days ago to cancel reservations for a Council of Conservative Citizens event. She said the hotel took the action after "it was brought to our attention to what this group might possibly be."

The CCC is a white supremacist organization cited as the possible inspiration for Dylann Roof, the man charged with murdering nine black churchgoers at Emanuel AME in Charleston, S.C.

"This is definitely not what the Guesthouse Inn represents," Jameson said in a phone interview Thursday. "The group will not be at our hotel, nor will they ever be at our hotel."
