Mean tweets haunt Trumps gay nominee at confirmation hearing

Richard Grenell's history of assholery on Twitter came back to bite his Quisling ass today during his Senate confirmation hearing to be US ambassador to Germany.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) took issue with Grenell’s remarks — saying he brought it up privately with the nominee and wished to bring it up publicly — referring to the tweets in his role as a Fox News commentator prior to his nomination earlier this month for the role in the Trump administration.

Murphy said the “litany of derogatory comments about women’s personal appearances” were among the “very inflammatory things” said by the nominee, asking him if he regrets the statement and can understand the concern about the impact they’ll have on his role in Germany.

Contrite in his response, Grenell said it was “never my intention to hurt anyone’s feelings” and denied the comments were representative of his character. Murphy said he wouldn’t say aloud Grenell’s remarks, but they were directed at the appearances of Hillary Clinton, Madeleine Albright, Callista Gingrich and Rachel Maddow.

One 2011 tweet directed at Maddow, a lesbian news anchor on MSNBC, said she “needs to take a breath and put on a necklace” and another compared her look to that of pop singer Justin Bieber. One tweet directed at Gingrich questioned whether she “snaps on” her hair. At around the same time, Grenell tweeted “Hillary is starting to look like Madeleine Albright.”

Some of Grenell’s most offensive tweets were deleted during the ten minutes he was with Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign before he was forced to resign after hate radio host Bryan Fischer screamed to anybody who would listen. But he soon returned to his dickish ways, generating gasps when he tweeted an accusation that NBC reporter Katy Tur had slept her way into her job.

NBA 2017 Champions: We Wont Visit White House

Via press release from the Golden State Warriors:

While we intended to meet as a team at the first opportunity we had this morning to collaboratively discuss a potential visit to the White House, we accept that President Trump has made it clear that we are not invited.

We believe there is nothing more American than our citizens having the right to express themselves freely on matters important to them. We’re disappointed that we did not have an opportunity during this process to share our views or have open dialogue on issues impacting our communities that we felt would be important to raise.

In lieu of a visit to the White House, we have decided that we’ll constructively use our trip to the nation’s capital in February to celebrate equality, diversity, and inclusion – the values that we embrace as an organization.

Jerry Lewis excludes his six sons from his will

Jerry Lewis' six sons were purposely excluded from the late comic's will. The legendary comedian, who died in August at 91, explicitly asked that they receive no benefits from his estate.

In documents obtained by the Blast and People, the Emmy-winning star's last will and testament declares the exclusion of his children with ex-wife Patti Palmer, whom he was married to from 1944 to 1980.

"I have intentionally excluded Gary Lewis, Ronald Lewis, Anthony Joseph Lewis, Christopher Joseph Lewis, Scott Anthony Lewis, and Joseph Christopher Lewis and their descendants as beneficiaries of my estate, it being my intention that they shall receive no benefits hereunder," the excerpt said.

Lewis is said to have cut ties with his other children shortly after adopting Danielle as a newborn. Lewis admitted in several interviews that he had been unfaithful to Palmer, particularly at the height of his popularity with comedy partner Dean Martin.

Tourism to the US declined in early 2017: report

In a shocking development that surprises no one...

The U.S. saw a noticeable drop in international tourism during the first few months of 2017, The New York Times reported on Tuesday.

Visitors to the U.S. decreased by 697,791 over the first three months of the year, according to new data from the Department of Commerce.

The new data represents a 4.2 percent drop from the previous year, resulting in an estimated $2.7 billion in losses, according to the Times. Comparatively, international tourism saw a 6.4 percent increase during the beginning of 2013, following the reelection of President Barack Obama.

Tourism had previously been in decline during the global recession at the time of Obama's first term, the Times reported.
The decrease in international tourism coincided with a survey by the Pew Research Center that found only 49 percent of participants from 37 countries held a favorable view of the U.S., as compared to a favorable view of 64 percent when Obama left office.
