IrishAyes's JournalGot a tip about restoring corroded brass.
Haven't tried it yet myself, but a friend told me to polish it with Tobasco sauce. Since the item's ruined anyway, far beyond the reach of Brasso, it won't hurt to try Tobasco Sauce when I get time. Will let you know how it turns out for me before suggesting others follow, however.
While I'm at it, allow me to invite any other suggestions anyone might have for rescuing ruined brass.
Tardy reply, but someday I'll be later than ever.
The town cemetery here has a rose garden where ashes are scattered. So I really will wind up smelling like a rose!
Should I re-install Windows 7?
Due to age barnacles, my ancient computer couldn't be used to configure a new signal booster, not even with tech support. I'm willing to go through all the aggravation of a reinstall but if it seems an advisable course to take, first I need to ask how to protect the mountains of 7 updates accumulated since the dawn of time. I presume they're hidden somewhere in the Windows folder. If I just copy that along with other files and stuff to a thumb drive, will the old updates install automatically or do I have to go another route? I know that the added programs will have to be reinstalled manually.
As you might guess, I'm desperate to goose a little more mileage out of this old computer. Hope I get some answers soon because tomorrow early would be the best time for me to start this project if at all.
You should know that the computer often groans, growls, and sometimes even has a heat stink when starting up even though I keep it elevated for cooling underneath.
I bet you'd like that website. Heavy on decorating, mostly modern which I hate, but still lots
of goodies and other departments. Of course you need Mother Earth Living and Mother Earth News also.
I've been browsing apartmenttherapy.com as an antidote to the political wars.
Found a frugal idea there today that many of you might already know, though it had never occurred to me: turning plastic bottles into planters. Sorry, but it just didn't cross my overloaded, short-circuiting brain. I guess any size would do, but I guzzle milk by the gallon, so that's what I plan to use. The jug, not the milk of course.
Did I install my new wireless repeater correctly?
UPDATE: Answer is NO.
Tech support finally answered; very nice man diagnosed the problem as being with my old, rickety computer and said (politely) that I had been doomed from the start. Apparently the solution will be for me to take the device to the computer I'm using to piggyback the wireless, then tech support will guide me through setting up the booster (not the host computer) so it will then work on any device within reach. After that all I have to do is take it home and plug it into the wall, not even into my computer, and that way both windows and android will get their wireless signals boosted.
If the owner of the host computer says no, all I can do is wait until I get a new computer myself in the sweet by and by; with a fully functioning computer I won't need to go to the host. I'll just be stuck waiting until I'm forced to buy another computer; and I wanted to run this bucket of junk until the blue screen of death.
The reason I suspect it will come to the latter is because ignorant as I am about technology, I'm still considered the local semi-expert! Most people around here are the tinfoil hat types, so with the best of intentions they're going to think I'm trying to make it easier for President Obama to throw them in a FEMA camp. They might not consider that my intention, but I guarantee you that's what they'll expect to come from letting me connect any hardware of my own to their hardware even temporarily. Between Faux Snooze and Alex Jones etc., they're scared of their own shadows.
Right now I'm so upset I can't find where to delete this thread entirely, so I'll just leave it up for everyone's amusement.
..................................................................................................................................................
It's a TP-Link and it claims to be successfully installed; I piggyback by permission on a local wireless signal because I don't have my own service at the moment, and the signal's weak so I wanted to make it stronger and more reliable, hence the repeater.
(Running Windows 7 on Chrome)
The only reason I feel the need to double check the installation is because in the Network and Sharing, it does show 2 networks BUT on the one for the repeater, it says 2 things which might appear contradictory:
Access type: No network access
and
Connections: Local Area Connection
I don't mind appearing ignorant because I am! I just want to know whether the repeater is properly working or how to find out. The tech support line NEVER answers.
Thanks for any help!
I've often wondered if President Obama's CPI proposals might be on the sucker bait side.
And they well could be. That's one of the things that I admire most about President Obama; his strategic brilliance. Biden spoke the truth when he warned, "Don't ever play poker with that man!"

I was going to post it but I got scooped!
IT'S REQUIRED READING FOR ANYONE WHO STILL IMAGINES 'WHITE AMERICA' DOESN'T NEED ANY WAKEUP CALL.
The investigator claims HE'S the victim in the case because he made 'a mistake'. Don't read the story aloud to small children or at all within 5 hours of eating because you will toss it.
Great OP as always, sheshe.
Mind if I ruminate a little on the historical context front?
'White' has classically (oh my, a pun!) meant the same as 'dominant' or 'superior', not really a skin color. Hardly a hundred years ago many melanin-challenged immigrants from western Europe were not socially much less legally considered 'white'. That designation was reserved for melanin-challenged members of the RULING CLASS. For instance a lot of people don't seem to know about (at least not understand) the 'No Irish Need Apply' signs and attitudes, much of the latter persisting even today. I won't go into exhaustive detail here, but just in my own personal experience I can verify that truth. I could also recommend viewing of an excellent documentary, 'The Irish in America'.
Circling back to the OP's original point: Yes, 'white America' does need to be reminded that others matter. I've been so upset over this growing attitude that it's open season on blacks, especially the kids. What did Michael Dunn say? "He can't talk to me that way!" That was a class-based murderous rage.
Much as I generally loved the old b&w Perry Mason tv series, I cringed when one character complimented another by saying, "That's awfully white of you." Acceptable on tv in the '50s and still ingrained in what passes for heart and mind in much of the country. Not so long ago at the library, two women walked past me, obviously deep in a political conversation. One sympathized with the other; "I know, honey... he's not white like us, is he?" Gee, who could they have meant?
So anyone who doesn't think White America needs a wakeup call is living in a narcissistic fantasy world.
