About Me

Still an ardent Irish-American Catholic damnYankee Yellow Dog Democrat socialist after all these years. (cue Simon music) Army brat and wife for many years, now have been on the loose far longer than I was married. After my two red chows died, I took in a mini-beagle cross that I named Molly Maguire, thinking she might need a good Irish name like my original real one. Later she got a baby sister, a smooth-coat JRT I named Brigid after the greatest of the ancient Celtic goddesses. My great-grandfather and his son fought for Michael Collins and barely made it out of Ireland one step ahead of John Bull. They slipped over to Wales for new identities and then forward to the States for a fresh start. That makes me second generation of illegal but certainly justified immigrants. There are precious few people to whose defense I fly immediately, but the list includes Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama even when I disagree with him - it happens! - and living Irish patriots Gerry Adams and Martin \\\'Mind Your Kneecaps\\\' McGuiness. I pray earnestly for a united and free Ireland rescued from all official British occupation, with every square inch of alleged \\\'ancestral lands\\\' now held immorally and illegally by the invaders returned to the rightful owners. Irish-only rule for Ireland. No foreign masters anymore! I find it passing strange when Brits chide ME about \'interfering\' in Irish politics!

Well, I hung on as long as I did

Partly because I'm territorial and disinclined to be pushed out of anywhere I have a right to be. But if the former driver doesn't go postal by November, I doubt he's likely to attack the bus. The only other person who seemed truly dangerous was the deranged ex-con, and I'll check to see whether he's still allowed on the bus either. For all I know both of them might not be long for this world anyway, because each has severe physical health issues in addition to the psychiatric ones. W/o their mutual instigation, I don't believe the others will actually offer harm. I've always been pretty good at reading people. If they pitched anymore screaming fits, I'd be wearing dark wraparound sunglasses and noise-cancelling earphones, so they couldn't provoke another fit out of me. Besides, I know the new driver and he's one of those rare sane people I get along with here. I don't think he'd tolerate such misconduct.

And if someone wanted to turn up their holy noses at me, by this time it's a compliment. Should one of them petulantly demand my help all the same, I'll smile my sweetest and say, "Just as soon as you swear you love Barack Obama." Unless of course it's a rider who came on after I left and never harrassed me. But you've seen those teabagger nuts - imagine listening to that crap for years!

Meanwhile, I'll keep celebrating the fact that the SOB previous driver finally got himself canned. I always thought that one of the major reasons he lasted so long was because management might have considered him dangerous to themselves as well. They might've known they were riding a tiger - yet finally they had no choice.

Wouldn't know. It's never happened. Probably never will.

At least not going up against you.

A Minor Personal Victory, in a political sense

If you're looking for big news, skip this thread because it's only about me and my 8-yr-battle in RedNeckLand with the gun-humping teabillies where I retired. Because of the remoteness of this tiny town, there's a rural minibus service called OATS that swings by a few times a week. For the nearly 5 years I rode that bus almost every week, sometimes at the other riders' urgent request to fill out a quorum so the rest of them could go; well, it was also because many are elderly and/or infirm in some way, and I used to be foolish enough to happily assist them every way I could, especially since the driver was lax in his duties, to put it mildly.

In a sane world this might've gotten me a few brownie points but remember we're talking rural MidWest here. What might still be called the Bible Belt, except I discovered a great many misuse the Holy Bible as a belt to beat on anyone they don't like for whatever reason. As an openly damnYankee Yellow Dog Democrat, I was treated viciously as an invader, even though I studiously discouraged political rows in such close quarters. But the reaction was at times downright dangerous during presidential campaign seasons; they really hated having to stop at my house with the big "VOTE DEMOCRAT" sign out front. The driver, a head case if there ever was one, worked on the natural rabid nature of most of his passengers, especially an ex-con with a history of drug use, violence, and psychiatric problems.

So in addition to becoming the focus of their insane terror and hatred of any supporters of Barack Obama, I received regular thinly veiled death threats and sexual harrassment. All my letters of complaint to official sources went ignored, and the head office eventually announced it had blocked my email address. They wanted me on the bus to boost ridership and help the infirm, but at the same time they wanted me off the bus because early on I took to raising such a stink about the way it was run. The big blowup came when the driver filed a false police report against me with the local LEO, claiming I carried a gun on the bus and threatened everyone. Several days ago in a destination town 60 miles away. The allegations were so ridiculous that our police chief waited almost another 48 hours before even asking me about it.

Next time on the bus all hell broke loose. Everybody started screaming and cussing me out, and after several years of personal reserve, I let them have it back in spades. After writing my usual letter about the sorry affair to the local weekly newspaper, I quit riding the bus anymore for about 2 years. But all the time I kept watching and waiting for the inevitable: this week there was a recitation of the minutes of the local OATS committee, and they had a cryptic note I'd been waiting for. The driver, quote, "was relieved of his duties." Not resigned or retired, but SACKED at last! See, he'd been pretty bad to a lot more people than just me, although I was definitely his favorite target. He even used to carry on about how he'd literally kill someone if they made him mad enough.

Knowing his unbalanced nature, I don't plan to get on that bus for at least a few months because he always seemed close to going postal anyway. But now he's been sacked at last, and w/o being there I know he didn't take it well. Regardless of what I perceive as a heightened period of danger, I'm still glad the SOB finally got the boot. Maybe I'll feel safe enough to get on the bus again to go for Christmas shopping out of town. Well after I'd quit riding the bus, the driver would still run out of any store where he saw me, I guess partly because he'd also convinced himself I'm a witch with spell-casting powers.

So if you read any interesting news stories out of the Midwest and you don't hear from me again, it was nice knowing you all.

You keep talking down to us

That's the funniest thing of all. Don't you think we haven't developed tough hides by now? Our little feelin's aren't hurt because being talked down to by someone whose delusion of grandeur knows no bounds, well... it just doesn't matter. Do you think that's the only way people will listen to you? You're going about it bass ackwards.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

He/she thinks him/herself witty!

I bow, scrape, and genuflect to your unassailable superiority over all other creatures.

You seem to level that same charge at anyone with a different viewpoint from yours.

Past time you took a long hard look in the mirror, pal.

BTW, you're not fooling anyone.

Is this misdirection, perhaps?

A person who happens to be right about 8 out 10 things can still be misleading with the other 2. You flatter yourself thinking your irony is so brilliant that the rest of us ignoramuses would necessarily miss it. That reeks of hubris and throws at least a sniff of suspicion over everything you say.

Have you not yet learned that insulting people so openly and deliberately NEVER sways them to your argument? Unless perhaps you really do consider EVERYONE so much less intelligent than your glorious self.

That's what it sounds and looks like, faux apologies and explanations aside.

Pervert is the nicest thing anyone can call them. They deserve far worse.

Ahh.... a sight for sore eyes indeed, both of them.
