I'm embarrassed for my community-covid 19 testing...

The local community center is just across the lot from my home...they are doing free testing today. Due to at least two members of my small apt community being exposed and another resident actually having the virus in March (thankfully she recovered) I was tested a few weeks back and it was negative. I can see the testing area (it is outside) and from 8:30 this morning have only seen four persons (including myself) getting tested. People in this area have mostly not been wearing masks or social distancing, they seem to think (as most good republicans do) that the virus is gone or a "hoax" and no need for precautions or testing...a week or so back the local hospitals were still reporting their ICU beds were 90 percent full. Like I said, I'm embarrassed for the community and the rampant ignorance and stupidity....rant over...

I wonder how much of the Dems convention format the dumpsters will steal...

they're not much good at having creative, all encompassing and honest ideas of their own...

Sent in my Kansas Democratic primary ballot by mail...

about a week ago with two stamps. Kansas has has site where you can check the status of your ballot and as of yesterday it still had not showed up at the office. I called and the lady was very nice and said the staff was working overtime through the weekend to get the received ballots ready to tabulate for the upcoming Tuesday primary election. So a bit relieved and checked that web site today and it shows my ballot as being received and correctly signed (the envelope) and ready for processing Tuesday...feeling better...I will probably take my mail in general election ballot to the local polling station and drop it there (as the election lady said I could)...

Can we hurry up and consign Trump, Pence, DeVos et al...

to the dust bin of history? 🗑️

Just went to the local small town grocery...

to pick up a couple of items...no more...I've been picking up groceries curbside for a couple of months but forgot some things. Anyway, the employees are no longer wearing masks and I asked the sacker kid...he said they were no longer required and were uncomfortable...so, I'm in a red state where the case number is going up and a bit dumb founded...Mini rant over....

Pence just said that people under 35 getting covid 19 is a good thing...

OMFG!

I got tested yesterday...

The county health department here in Sedgwick County KS set up a free testing station in the Senior/Community Center next to my Senior sixplex. I and my quite elderly neighbor lady seemed to be the only ones out of thirty or so residents who cared enough to get the swab test even though another lady resident just a few apartments down had covid 19 way back at the beginning (Feb/March), thankfully she recovered from the pneumonia caused by it and is out walking her doggy every day.
I went over and told another elderly couple here about it and they acted like I offended them, I have helped them with their tv and phone and computer set up several times (probably no more). They are both in their mid to late 70s and have numerous health issues but think Jesus is protecting them (I guess). Fundies....hmmm.

Most of the residents here and in nearby Wichita act as if the pandemic is over and I see them running in and out of this complex daily...no masks...no seeming concerns...on my trips for groceries (about every 7 to 10 days, I order online and pick them up) traffic is heavy and again, very few masks are seen...people just don't care and are foolish (imo)...the nursing home two blocks away had 50+ residents and staff infected and several deaths a couple of months back and just this week another facility 10 miles away announced that at least 14 residents and staff are currently infected...so the virus is definitely here and still growing.

The test was a bit uncomfortable but not bad. I'm a bit anxious for the results (they said 5 to 7 days) but have had no symptoms other than my usual allergies and a headache here and there so I should be good...Okay, that was my rant....

Scary trip to WalMart...

I don't usually go there but I needed a couple of non food items my small town grocery doesn't carry and it is in the next small town about 12 miles away (in a very red state just outside of Wichita). I went just after noon and wore my mask and gloves but the scary part, other than employees almost no one was wearing a mask or gloves or even spacing out (it was marked on the floor every few feet). Luckily it wasn't super crowded so I got in and out safely. Just the total disregard for others is weighing on me, I can't believe people are this way. There were even children running about by themselves.

The only interactions I had were with a young guy who got in the checkout line behind me but was right up on my basket (I had finished loading it on the conveyor), I gave him a nasty glare and he shuffled around for a moment and then moved to the next checkout... They did have plexi glass in front of the checker and when I had paid I commented to the young lady about no one wearing masks, she shrugged her shoulders and said, "as long as we have what they want we don't judge what they wear". I know she can't do anything but just her uncaring nonchalance stuck with me. She had a sort of what's with you tone in her voice...Won't go back there until ever or certainly not until the covid is in decline....just my experience...

Someone posted this on the Doctor Who /reddit...

Friendly advice from your local neighborhood Dalek:

Sounds like nothing in the bailout....

for a large group of fixed income poor.

I am a senior with health issues but not enough to be on disability. In 2018 (the tax year they are using in this first release for qualification) I had $0 income due to health and inability to work, luckily I could stay with a relative and got by until 2019 when I got some income by taking early retirement social security part way through the year.

I was able by this income (and not being able to stay any longer with the relative) to get a small apt in a senior complex. I am just barely getting by as my SS payments run just at poverty level. Hard to buy food and household needs by the end of the month even getting help from meals on wheels.

This first bill requires you to have had a small income ($2500 of "qualifying" income, whatever that means) in 2018 to be eligible. Last year I received about $9000 from SS benefits and could really use the bail out funds to stock up on a bit of food (maybe for a month) and pay some bills (including some medical debt not covered by the ACA insurance I am currently getting. I know several of my senior neighbors are in similar situations and could also use the funding.

Anyway, I'll mange either way but just wanted to express my situation and how the first release of the plan potentially won't be helping lots of folks with low fixed incomes. I have read several commits on DU expressing the sentiment that only those who are unemployed because of the virus crisis should get any bail out funds and I agree that they should get support but am asking that everyone think about folks like myself in their considerations.
