Holes found in Keystone Pipeline

Just received this email and wanted to pass it on here. I am so glad that the president is holding off his decision to approve this nightmare till June.

"20-year-old Isabel Brooks and two of her friends locked themselves inside a segment of the Keystone XL pipeline -- a controversial pipeline being built to carry toxic tar sands oil to the US coast for export -- to protest its construction. While inside the pipe, they discovered something shocking: there are already holes in the Keystone XL pipeline, created by faulty welding.

But moments after snapping a photo of the light coming into the supposedly airtight pipe, Isabel was arrested and held for 24 days in prison. An hour after her arrest, TransCanada laid that segment of pipeline in the ground without inspecting it.

Sign our urgent petition to TransCanada to get independent inspection for every single inch of the Keystone XL pipeline to identify and fix any holes in the pipe.

Despite federal regulations making independent inspection mandatory, TransCanada pipeline contractors hire their own pipeline inspectors. Without truly independent oversight, TransCanada can cut corners and rubber stamp inspections. And when TransCanada cuts corners, our communities, farmland, water, health and planet suffer.

What’s really scary is that if Isabel found one segment of faulty pipeline, it’s likely there are others.

TransCanada has a legacy of pipeline spills. In the Keystone pipeline’s first year of operation, it spilled 12 times -- more than any other first-year pipeline in US history. This is a huge moment to show just how dangerous the KXL pipeline really is. With each day that passes, TransCanada is moving ahead with the construction of this pipeline, potentially burying more uninspected pipe, and putting more communities at risk.

If we speak out now we can make sure that TransCanada’s legacy of spills is stopped before it’s too late.

Sign our urgent petition to TransCanada now demanding independent pipeline inspection.

Thanks for being one of us,

Emma, Angus, Kaytee and the rest of us"

Just got two hearts within a half hour! THANK YOU!!

Gotta say this.... I've been really down the last couple weeks with health issues, getting old and dealing with clinical depression and then a poster who called me a loser for not liking a band as much as he did, as icing on the cake. But then I "met" a really neat person here with many common interests, so life is good, after all....

These really meant a lot to me. Thanks so much for the lovely acts of kindness.

Bill Clinton On Gun Control: 'Do Not Patronize The Passionate Supporters Of Your Opponents'

With President Barack Obama's gun-control plans out in the open, former President Bill Clinton spoke out Saturday on the need to proceed with caution.

Appearing before Obama's National Finance Committee and various business leaders, Clinton stressed that guns present different cultural complexities than other political issues.

"Do not patronize the passionate supporters of your opponents by looking down your nose at them," he said, according to Politico.

Clinton's comments echoed similar thoughts from April 2012, when he advised Obama to not bother with gun-control legislation for cultural reasons.

On Jan. 9 in Las Vegas, Clinton did address the use of high-capacity magazines in the United States, characterizing the presence of those weapons as "nuts."

"Why does anybody need one of those things that carries 100 bullets?," he asked.

Obama and Vice President Joe Biden revealed their gun control plan last Wednesday, which included criminal background checks on all gun sales, the reinstitution of an assault weapons ban, and a 10-round limit on ammunition magazines.

Can guns be an addiction?

Listening to the visceral reactions from those that oppose any sort of gun reform, makes me wonder if their intense response is from an addiction to guns. Much the same as cigs, alcohol or drugs. It's as if these people can't get enough guns to own and then still want bigger, better and more powerful.

While I hear some say it's their freedoms that they don't want to lose, it sounds somewhat hollow to me.... I think it's just a handy excuse to use, to keep all their "toys".

What are your thoughts on this?

Maddow report: How the ATF was weakened by the NRA

I was amazed at the information Rachel uncovered for this story. The more we see how ugly the NRA is, the better we can fight them. And building back up the ATF, will help gun control reform, set by the WH.

I was so ticked at Chris Matthews last night!

His inane remarks about President Obama's amazing, wonderful speech were so out of line! What's the matter with him? He came and tried to whiz on our parade and sounded like an idiot!

I have ZERO sympathy for them, I'm sorry.

The ran such an arrogant and racist campaign! They are so cavalier about women's rights, minimizing them and us! And no one from the GOP came out for democracy, instead obstructing everyone's right to vote! I will never forgive them for that!!
Their loss of humanity cost them their honorable place in politics.
