Teacher Accidentally Fires Gun; At Least 1 Student Injured

X-posted from GCRA forum.

As a controversial idea to arm teachers is pushed, and students gear up for gun control demonstrations across the nation, a California story lends unsettling context. Per KSBW, a teacher at Seaside High School in Monterey County (also 2013's reserve officer of the year for the Sand City PD and trained in firearms, per the Washington Post) was demonstrating "public safety" Tuesday for his administration of justice class with a semiautomatic handgun. But as Dennis Alexander was handling the weapon, it fired while pointed upward, sending the bullet ricocheting off the ceiling, Seaside Police Chief Abdul Pridgen tells the Monterey Herald. Pridgen says one student suffered non-life-threatening wounds to his neck from either falling debris or "fragmentation"—not from a bullet, per the Monterey County Weekly—and that class went on after the dust literally settled.

KSBW reports two other students also had minor injuries. "It's the craziest thing. It could have been very bad," the dad of the 17-year-old student with the hurt neck says, adding school officials never checked to see if any students were injured, and that he and his son's mother were the ones who noticed his bloody shirt and neck injuries when he got home. Alexander, meanwhile, who's been a reserve officer for 11 years, has been placed on leave from both the school and the Sand City PD. "I have concerns about why he was displaying a loaded firearm in a classroom," that department's chief says. Seaside's Pridgen tells the Herald: "We're looking into any violation of city ordinance or the penal code and we'll determine whether or not there are any applicable charges." KSBW notes California teachers aren't allowed to bring firearms into classrooms, even with concealed carry permits.

Not only this type of goof, but arming teachers will create a new type of school shooting: Bonking a teacher on the head & stealing his gun & going on a shooting spree with bullets smuggled in by the newly armed student.

Inside the NRA: Armed and Dangerous--An Expose Jan 1996

Inside the NRA: Armed and Dangerous--An Expose Hardcover – January 1, 1996
by Jack Anderson (Author)

https://www.amazon.com/Inside-NRA-Armed-Dangerous-Expose/dp/0787106771

The nra has been an insidious invidious assiduous treacherous duplicitous truth twisting organization for decades, & this book by jack anderson (dec'd) is as apt today as it was 22 years ago, with a few alterations due heller & mcdonald & the money grubbing political names have changed.
One approval (below) also listed a common theme which exists till today, that (circa 1996) the nra is 'rapidly losing the confidence of the general public'. Hasn't worked that way tho, eh?
Gets mostly bad reviews - consider the negativity coming from far right critics, likely answering the nra's call to arms to attack someone bashing the guardian of their sacred 2nd amendment.

I believe in 95% of the information and numerous sources that Mr. Anderson uses to make his case, which is this - the NRA is consolidating and perhaps increasing its political power in Washington D.C., but it is RAPIDLY losing the confidence of the general public.
Mr. Anderson has an objective view toward sensible gun legislation. He does not advocate registration, or confiscation, or any other ultra-radical anti-gun stance. However, he does expose the NRA for what they appear to be - ultra-conservative, ultra-right radicals, who are unwilling to compromise on, or even suggest sensible gun legislation and/or safety measures that would benefit the average citizen, without comprimising their rights, constitutional or otherwise.
BTW, I am a former member of the NRA and consider myself a conservative.
Anyone thinking about this ongoing gun debate will benefit from this book.
My review is from the audio version of this book.
