SC lawyer of black man killed by cop switches support to Sanders

Source: The Hill

Bernie Sanders has received the endorsement of a South Carolina lawmaker and lawyer representing the family of a Palmetto State man shot and killed last year by a police officer.

State Rep. Justin Bamberg, the lawyer representing the family of Walter Scott, said Monday he is switching his endorsement from Hillary Clinton to Sanders in the race for the White House. In a conference call held by the Sanders campaign, Bamberg said his decision was not about anything Clinton did wrong, but about how Sanders won him over once he gave him a "fair shake."

"People have said Bernie’s ideas are unachievable and impossible," he said. "We live on the greatest country on earth...we put a man on the moon — don’t tell me that we can not provide Americans the right to health care because that right is a matter of life and death for many Americans."

Scott, a black man, was killed by a South Carolina police officer who shot him as he ran away unarmed. The officer, Michael Slager, has been charged with murder after the release of dashcam video showing the crime.

The independent Vermont senator, who is in a tight battle with Clinton in Iowa and New Hampshire, trails Clinton by a large margin in South Carolina amid concerns that Sanders's message isn't resonating with black voters. Clinton led by 22 points in a recent poll by CBS News/YouGov.

New Poll: Sanders Moves Ahead Of Clinton In Iowa

Source: Talking Points Memo

Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) has moved into the lead in Iowa over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, according to polling conducted by the American Research Group released Monday.

The polls showed Sanders’ support at 47 percent to Clinton’s 44 percent. Sanders held the same 47-44 lead over Clinton in a separate ARG poll of New Hampshire also released Monday.

In Iowa, where Clinton has mostly led in the polls, this is the first recent poll to place Sanders in the lead. This is the first ARG poll of the Iowa Democratic primary this cycle. Most polls taken throughout the fall have put him ahead in New Hampshire by a narrow margin. The last ARG poll of New Hampshire, Dec. 23, showed Clinton leading Sanders 46-43.

Nationwide polls give Clinton a comfortable lead, though closer now than in the summer when Sanders first surged. In Iowa and New Hampshire, however, Sanders has done better than nationally.

The Iowa poll surveyed 400 likely Democratic caucus-goers from January 6-10, with a margin of error of +/- 5%. Both were conducted using live telephone interviews. The New Hampshire ARG poll surveyed 600 likely Democratic voters from January 7-10, with a martin of error of +/- 4%.

Hillary Clinton's Lead Over Sanders Nearly Vanishes

Source: Investor's Business Daily (IBD)

With just 21 days until the presidential primaries officially begin in Iowa, Hillary Clinton's support among Democrats nationally has taken a serious tumble, falling eight points to 43%, according to the latest IBD/TIPP Poll. Support for her chief rival, Bernie Sanders, climbed six points to 39%.

As a result, Clinton's lead over Sanders, which had been 18 points, is now just 4 points.

Other polls have shown the race tightening in Iowa, which holds its caucuses on Feb. 1, and New Hampshire, which has its primary eight days later. Two recent New Hampshire surveys haveSanders in the lead, and the latest NBC poll in Iowa has Sanders just three points behind Clinton.

But the IBD/TIPP Poll is the first to show the race significantly tightening nationwide.
