Roger Wicker (R-Miss) Dines w/Obama, Votes to move forward Gun debate, gets envelope full of Ricin

Roger Wicker joins GOP senators at dinner with Obama

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama hosted Republican senators at the White House Wednesday evening, with dinner conversation including the deficit, gun control and immigration.

A White House official characterized their discussion over steak and sautéed vegetables as constructive and wide ranging, including all three of the pressing issues at the top of the president's agenda. Their dinner came on the same day that Obama unveiled a $3.8 trillion budget proposal and on the eve of a debate over gun legislation on the Senate floor.

Georgia Sen. Johnny Isakson compiled the invitations to the White House's Old Family Dining Room, at Obama's request. Among those on the list were Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Arkansas' John Boozman, Maine's Susan Collins, Idaho's Mike Crapo, Wyoming's Michael Enzi, Nebraska's Deb Fischer, Utah's Orrin Hatch, Kansas' Pat Roberts, Florida's Marco Rubio, South Dakota's John Thune and Mississippi's Roger Wicker.

Roger Wicker votes to move forward with gun control measure

The Senate voted to move forward on gun control Thursday, clearing the first of what is expected to be many 60-vote hurdles for the legislation.

In a 68-31 vote, the Senate approved a procedural motion that will allow debate on the Democratic measure to begin. Sixty votes were required for approval.
Sixteen Republicans voted in favor of the motion, while two Democrats — both from states President Obama lost in the 2012 election — voted against it. The two Democrats were Sens. Mark Begich (Alaska) and Mark Pryor (Ark.), both of whom face reelection next year.

The 16 Republicans who voted to proceed were Sens. Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), Richard Burr (N.C.), Saxby Chambliss (Ga.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), Susan Collins (Maine), Bob Corker (Tenn.), Jeff Flake (Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Dean Heller (Nev.), John Hoeven (N.D.), Johnny Isakson (Ga.), Mark Kirk (Ill.), John McCain (Ariz.), Pat Toomey (Pa.) and Roger Wicker (Miss.). Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) missed the vote.

Envelope sent to Roger Wicker tests positive for ricin

Federal officials discovered Tuesday a poison-laced letter sent to Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), uncovering the material at an off-site location where congressional mail has been screened since anthrax-laced letters were sent to Capitol Hill in 2001.
Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) and other senators exiting an FBI briefing on the Boston attacks, told reporters that the letter was tested at the facility and came up positive for ricin. Officials gave no indication why the letter was sent to Wicker, a low-profile senator in his second term.

Store that sold Sandy Hook gun loses license

Source: cnn

(CNN) - A Connecticut store that sold a gun used to kill 26 people last December at Sandy Hook Elementary School no longer can legally sell firearms.

Debora Seifert, a spokeswoman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, told CNN on Friday the Riverview Gun Sales shop in East Windsor, Connecticut, lost its federal firearms license December 20 -- six days after the massacre about 65 miles southwest in Newtown.

That day, after killing his mother in their Newtown home, Adam Lanza drove to the elementary school and shot dead 20 young children and six adults using a semiautomatic Bushmaster .223-caliber model XM15 rifle.

The shooter's mother, Nancy Lanza, bought the Bushmaster firearm two years ago at Riverview Gun Sales, according to Detective Matthew Carl of the East Windsor Police Department.

The ATF spokeswoman did not comment on why the store's license was revoked, including if it had anything to do with the Newtown rampage.

But Carl said "probably the reason the ATF raided the store on December 20 was for poor keeping of the records."

4 gay NFL players could come out on the same day, Brendon Ayanbadejo says

Source: SB Nation

Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo was released by Baltimore this offseason, and on the heels of comments earlier this week where he suggested that he was cut in part because of his outspoken stance on gay rights and equality issues, Ayanbadejo clarified himself to the Baltimore Sun on Friday. During an hour-long interview he made it clear that he harbors no resentment for the Ravens, and respects them for the support they offered him throughout his career both on and off the field. But that's not all.

When the conversation turned to his work with gay rights and the question of when we might see an openly gay player in the NFL, Ayanbadejo had this to say:

"I think it will happen sooner than you think," Ayanbadejo said. "We're in talks with a handful of players who are considering it. There are up to four players being talked to right now and they're trying to be organized so they can come out on the same day together. It would make a major splash and take the pressure off one guy. It would be a monumental day if a handful or a few guys come out."

Google’s Doodle Features American Labor Leader Cesar Chavez On Easter Sunday, Users Retaliate....

Source: Tech Crunch

full Title: Google’s Doodle Features American Labor Leader Cesar Chavez On Easter Sunday, Users Retaliate On Twitter

Google’s Doodles on the Google.com search page don’t frequently stir up too much controversy, but today many users are outraged by the search giant’s choice in featuring Cesar Chavez, an American farm worker, labor leader and civil rights activist. Of course, today is also Easter, which is one of the most observed and celebrated religious holidays for Christians around the world.

Users have taken to Twitter, expressing anger over the fact that the Doodle features the labor leader instead of a drawing honoring the holiday (Google search engine rival Bing did feature Easter Eggs on its homepage).

Why Cesar Chavez? In 2011, U.S. President Barack Obama proclaimed March 31 as “Cesar Chavez Day.” That being said, since the company frequently celebrates major U.S. and international holidays through the Doodles, it is a little bizarre that Google wouldn’t include a Easter Egg-type of Doodle. But if you do a search of Google Doodles that celebrate Easter, it appears the search giant hasn’t created an Easter Doodle since 2000.

Nothing is more entertaining than a full-on freak-out from the Religious Right.... Literally, over a Doodle

For Easter.... Google Honors Cesar Chavez's 86th Birthday

Good for Google!

What Police Found in Adam Lanza's Home:

Reporters are still digging through the documents (you can check out four of the search warrants here), but among the early takeaways:

A Gun Safe: Hartford Courant: "Investigators found a gun safe belonging to Nancy Lanza, the shooter's mother, open and with no evidence that it had been broken into. Adama Lanza shot and killed his mother at their home before going on his rampage at the school, police have said. Police found three photographs of a dead person covered in plastic and blood. The warrants do not indicate whether authorities know the identity of the person. They confiscated a military-style uniform from Adam Lanza's bedroom, the warrants indicate."

1,600 Rounds: CNN: "Investigators found more than 1,600 rounds of ammunition in the house, and a holiday card with a check 'made out to Adam Lanza for the purchase of a C183 (firearm), authored by Nancy Lanza,' according to a search warrant."

Guns as Gifts: Associated Press: "Investigators found a holiday card containing a check made out to Lanza for the purchase of a firearm, authored by his mother, Nancy Lanza. Adam Lanza shot and killed his mother in their Newtown home before driving to the school to carry out the massacre."

Samurai Swords: Yahoo! News: "In addition to several guns inside the home, police also recovered three Samurai swords and long pole with a blade on one side and a spear on the other. Inside the car the shooter drove to the school, officers recovered a 12-gauge shotgun and two magazines containing 70 rounds of ammunition, the documents show."

Reading Material: NBC News: "Also recovered were a National Rifle Association certificate, seven of Lanza’s journals, drawings that he made and books, including an NRA guide to the basics of pistol shooting, authorities said. Other books included Look at Me: My Life with Asperger’s and Born on a Blue Day: Inside the Mind of an Autistic Savant. Among the other items seized were a holiday card containing a check from his mother to buy a firearm, an article from The New York Times about a school shooting at Northern Illinois University and three photographs of what appeared to be a dead person covered with plastic and blood."

HA! This Letterman quote on the Obama/Satan lookalike is Priceless!

Reports: Father accidentally shoots, kills 10-month-old son in front of family

Source: us news

A 10-month-old boy was shot and killed by his father Thursday in an apparent accident at a Nashville, Tenn., hotel, local media reported.

Two police detectives from the Hermitage Precinct were close to the hotel when the call went out and made it to the scene within about three minutes but were unable to resuscitate the child, NBC affiliate WSMV-TV Channel 4 reported.
The child's mother Jacquelin Bass, 28, and the couple's other sons, aged 3 and 2, were in the room when the gun went off, the station said.

The baby was shot once in the chest as his father, Larry Bass, 30, handled the semi-automatic handgun, the Nashville Tennessean reported.
