Amid the current din over assault weapons and body armor, consider one domestic organization’s fearsome arsenal of military-style equipment.
In the space of eight years, the group amassed a stockpile of pistols, shotguns, and semiautomatic rifles, along with ample supplies of ammunition, liquid explosives, gun scopes, and suppressors. In its cache as well are night-vision goggles, gas cannons, plus armored vests, drones, and surveillance equipment. Between 2006 and 2014, this organization spent nearly $4.8 million to arm itself. Yet its aggressive weapons buildup has drawn almost no public attention.
Does all this firepower belong to a jihadist terror cell? A right-wing hate group? A vicious urban gang?
A lot of people are having trouble with this math problem that requires some basic algebra
The equation in question? 9 – 3 ÷ 1/3 + 1 = ? The deceptively simply math problem recently blew up in Japan, as people quickly found they were routinely getting the wrong answer. According to PopSugar, only 60 percent of 20-somethings solve it correctly, a study showed.
So what is the remaining 40 percent doing right? YouTube user MindYourDecisions shows you, bringing in mathematician Presh Talwalkar, the man behind the problem, to explain how it’s done.

What is going to happen with the other countries that have been rather tepid on the EU lately?
Will they hold a referendum on whether to leave or will they look at the UK as a cautionary tale and the troubles the UK now faces encourage them to remain within the EU?
I have thought is over, sorry the answer is still no.
When Bush brought out the various terrorist lists, I felt they were unconstitutional travesties. I was very disappointed that once Democrats had control they did not abolish them I continue to oppose their use to abridge any freedom.
If the FBI wants to keeps lists of suspected terrorists, fine. They can list Muhammad Omar Malinowski because he has a strange name and might be up to something. That list should have the same legal force as the post-it in the lunchroom that says 'Wash your own dishes'
If a person is suspected of terrorist links and the Government wants to limit their activities, be it buying a gun, travel, dancing the Electric Slide..., it needs to be done via the courts, not the bureaucracy. Establish a process similar to restraining orders. Present evidence, allow it to be contested, follow due process. If a person is such a high risk, an emergency order can be issued for a very limited time until a full hearing can be held. If the person is still too great of a risk, then there should be sufficient evidence to arrest and charge them.
If people think our Freedoms are too dangerous for the modern world, then we need to call a Constitutional Convention and make sweeping change. It would be better to respectfully roll up the Constitution, if it has become obsolete, and throw it in a fire than tear it up piecemeal and use it as asswipe.
Anti-gun director admits to felony gun purchase
Under the Gun director Stephanie Soechtig describes sending a producer from Colorado to Arizona where he purchased a Bushmaster and three pistols without a background check. She goes on to describe how this is legal. Unfortunately her legal knowledge is lacking.
First they violated 18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(3)- Willful receipt of firearm from out of state by unlicensed person, carrying a penalty of up to 5 years in prison. Also since they planned this action, it would be defined as conspiracy under 18 U.S. Code § 371, giving an additional potential 5 year penalty.
Depending on the actual transaction (such as did he identify himself as non-Arizona resident) there may be additional charges of fraud, illegal transfer/transport of weapons, conspiracy and inducement to commit crime.
The current whereabouts of the four firearms was not revealed.
Should Ms Soechtig and the unnamed producer be charged with Federal felonies or excused?
Well I guess that shows what apologies are worth...
As usual, I was watching The Jason Show, a local morning talk show on KMSP 9. It is typical morning silliness, light banter with whatever newsworthy, or not so newsworthy, interview they can get.
This morning he had a live interview with Stephanie Soechtig, writer, producer, and director of Under the Gun; the film that has the now infamous creative editing of an interview with VCDL members. Ms. Soechtig has addressed the long pause added in the film thusly:
“There are a wide range of views expressed in the film. My intention was to provide a pause for the viewer to have a moment to consider this important question before presenting the facts on Americans’ opinions on background checks. I never intended to make anyone look bad and I apologize if anyone felt that way.”
Jason asked her to comment on the issue on the show. I must paraphrase,as I was not recording (I didn't even know that he was interviewing her until the segment began) but her reply was :
First know that the Virginia Citizen's Defense League is an extreme fringe group. This is a controversial subject and I believe they had ample opportunity to express their opinion. Frankly we expected attacks from the time we started this project. This is just typical gun lobby tactics...
pretty much the complete opposite of what she has said in other statements.
Her editing of the interview has been called journalistic malpractice by other groups such as Columbia University School of Journalism, National Public Radio and the Washington Post.
Ironically, the subtitle for Under the Gun is In the Gun Debate, Truth is the Ultimate Weapon; yet the first principle abandoned was the truth.
Husband charged with beating wife's would-be rapist to death

A New York man has been charged after authorities say he beat his wife's would-be rapist to death with a tire iron.
Police initially recommended Mamadou Diallo be charged with manslaughter. But according to a charging document provided by the Bronx District Attorney's office, he was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of assault, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment.
Diallo, 61, was released without bail, according to Patrice M. O'Shaughnessy in the Bronx DA's office. He left the Bronx criminal courthouse Tuesday evening to cheers from a crowd of supporters, according to CNN affiliate WCBS.
A grand jury will convene to determine whether there is enough evidence to indict Diallo, O'Shaughnessy said. Diallo will be called back within a week and asked whether he wants to testify before the grand jury, she said.
