Trueblue Texan
Trueblue Texan's JournalI'm very excited, and feeling a little guilty...
...about getting the Covid-19 vaccine in the morning! I have to drive to Houston, a two-hour drive. But I'd drive all day and night to get that vaccine. I know I work in health care and work with vulnerable populations, and Covid-infected populations, I still feel a little unworthy, given what health care workers in hospital ICUs go through. I hope they've all been vaccinated.
Hopeful, at last...
Yesterday as I was approaching a patient's front door, I had a fleeting thought of how much better my job would be if I weren't swaddled in PPE, if I could breathe freely and not be continually short of breath while exercising and walking my patients; if I could see without the fog on a face shield, touch my patient's seeking hands, give them a hug of reassurance. It almost makes me cry thinking of it now...I guess it was the news that the vaccine was finally administered in UK yesterday that allowed me to dare such a hopeful thought...They have been so isolated and cut off from human touch. And as miserable as it has been, the patients and clinicians in home health like me are the lucky ones! The true misery is in the ICUs across America.
How joyful it will be, the day we can take off our masks and see and touch one another again. How joyful, when the ICUs are nearly empty again. How joyful it will be to rebuild our nation and our health and relationships with loved ones and those we care for. I will take this thought with me and I know it will be a better day if I can keep it in my mind.
Have a good day DUers.
My daughter, son-in-law, and both grandkids...
...have tested positive for Covid-19. The kids, 4 & 7 are showing no symptoms at all. My son-in-law seems to be over the worst of it. Daughter still has fevers that rise and dip. And she has a kidney stone. Fun times
Now we turn to Senate runoffs in Georgia...
If you were able to donate to any campaign this year, I hope you will now shift those funds to the Georgia races for Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. The Senate is still within our reach and we need to get McConnell out of there.
Tell it, Ossof!!

Deeply satisfying to hear a politician speak the truth so eloquently and directly.
Is anyone else having trouble making donations through ActBlue?
I've tried to make multiple donations in the last few weeks. Sometimes I think they've gone through but then they don't ever show up on my donations history. Last month my credit card company put a hold on some of my charges to ActBlue because they looked suspicious, but I called them and told them to put a note on my account that all ActBlue charges are ok. But I still have not been able to make a donation that goes through. Sometimes there is not even a verify donation button on the page.
Finally! Early voting begins!!!
And its a looong line in Brazos county ! Never seen this before! How do I add a photo?
Wouldn't it make more sense for the Republicans...
...to take a risk and not fill Ginsburgs seat until after the election? KNowing there is a seat to immediately fill, requiring a Republican Senate to confirm a Republican appointee....wouldnt that really motivate their base to vote? If they Rush to confirm the appointee before (and they dont really have time) The election, the base will relax, not go and vote and Trump will lose and theyll all go to jail. Thoughts?
Rachel Maddow martini...
Ok, I did my best to make the martini the exact way I remember Rachel said. As she instructed, I didn't eat the olives...not yet anyway. I'm still working on the martini--drinking it, that is, and I have to say, I am just not woman enough to enjoy it. I had to add some triple sec...which technically makes it a Martinez. At least I can drink it now...very slowly. I'll have to check out some of her other drinks. She's not just a brilliant journalist, she is a pretty competent mixologist by reputation. Favorite things of mine.
