CNN Poll: Ohio Stays In Obama Column After Debate

President Obama retained the lead in a big prize on the electoral map, Ohio, according to a poll released Tuesday by CNN.

Obama leads Romney 51 percent to 47 percent in the Buckeye State, a smaller advantage than the president has had in the state during the last few weeks of polling. But with Romney surging nationally on a good performance in the first presidential debate, the CNN numbers contradict four other polls fielded after the event that showed the race within 1 point, and Romney leading three of them.

CNN pointed to the gender gap as the reason for Obama’s lead — the president is up 22 points with women, while Romney leads men by 14 points. Obama also leads 50 percent to Romney’s 46 percent among independent voters.

The results put the overall PollTracker Average of the race in Ohio at a 1.9 percent lead for the president.

Taliban attack wounds teen activist blogger

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Malala Yousufzai's courageous blogging against the Taliban set her apart from other 14-year-old Pakistani girls.

Growing up in a region once dominated by the Islamic extremists, she knew the fear associated with the word Taliban.

One of her fears came to pass Tuesday, when gunmen sought her out and opened fire on her school van, leaving her seriously wounded along with two other classmates

Last year, Malala told CNN she feared "being beheaded by the Taliban because of my passion for education. During their rule, the Taliban used to march into our houses to check whether we were studying or watching television."
She described how she used to hide her books under her bed, fearing a house search by the Taliban.

Malala's online writing against the Taliban led to her being awarded Pakistan's first National Peace Prize last November. Former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani directed Pakistan's Cabinet to award the prize each year to a child under 18 who contributes to peace and education.

perspective on debate "winners"

john kerry was widely viewed by the public and MSM as having kicked GWs ass in their first debate.

jimmy carter did the same to reagan.

and we all remember the kerry presidency and carter's second term, right?

does ASSad really want a piece of the RAF, Luftwaffe, French: Armée de l'Air and the USAF?

feel froggy, assad? then jump, coward! the organizations listed in my headline are, unlike defenseless civilians, quite capable of applying some serious butt hurt - ask Slobodan Milosavich. Oh, that's right, never mind.

hey teachers

what would you do about a principal who enforces rules like dress codes on the poor minority students while not saying a peep to the rich white kids about the same thing? He also told us we can't take away recess as a classroom management technique but then turns around and takes it away from poor hispanic kids without so much as telling us the policy has been changed.

Islamic fundies just discovering youtube?

and its often inflammatory content? Seriously, everyone keeps talking about this "film" when all there is is some crazy, racist sh*t on youtube not all that indistinguishable from a lot of other crazy racist sh*t on youtube. If they are just figuring out that it exists, well, they are going to have to riot in shifts from now to eternity - or recalibrate their outrage meter.

Trolling Bill Clinton

Republicans and reporters are pretending the former president's speech poses political risk and drama to Obama
By Joan Walsh

Reporters are also milling around looking for stories, trying to find rumblings of dissent where few exist (aside from Occupy, which is in a category by itself). I’ve talked to at least a dozen delegates who’ve described being pressed by reporters into divulging some way in which they or their constituency – labor, Latinos, LGBT folks – have been let down by the president. “They’re just reaching,” a Latino legislator told me....

My favorite non-story so far involves the alleged danger President Clinton poses to Obama with his still-unvetted convention speech scheduled for Wednesday night. Some of the coverage tries to make Clinton sound like he could be the Democrats’ Clint Eastwood – an old celebrity gunslinger who might not be able to shoot straight anymore. But most of it is straight from the 2008 playbook: The two presidents don’t really like one another. Bill’s still mad about Hillary’s loss. He might even prefer a Romney win, since it could set up a 2016 Clinton candidacy....

But Republicans are hyping this Clinton-Obama “tension” story line to make our centrist president out to be some socialist usurper, when his politics are almost identical to our last centrist Democratic president – and too many reporters are taking the bait. I expect Clinton to destroy the Romney-Ryan welfare lies for good. If anyone should be nervous about Clinton’s unvetted speech, it’s Mitt Romney.

I also believe the Big Dog is about to take it straight to Romney. Must see TV I predict.

how dare poor people eat ice cream!

if i can subsidize mitt romney's dancing horse by having to (like the rest of us) compensate for his foreign tax shelters, i really have no problem with buying some ice cream for some poor kids. romney ought to be buying their ice cream. people like him have certainly created a lot of poor people. least he could do is buy them some ice cream.
