01 December 2020 Europe

German police have launched an investigation into the disappearance of a peculiar phallic-shaped sculpture from a mountainside in Bavaria, local media say.

The two-metre tall (6.5ft) wooden statue was apparently chopped down over the weekend, the Allgaeuer Zeitung newspaper reported.

The statue stood for years on the Grünten mountain, south-west of Munich.

Now, all that remains of the monument is a small stump and some wood chips.

By: Sam RadwanyPosted at 6:30 PM, Dec 01, 2020 and last updated 6:55 PM, Dec 01, 2020

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson City Council has voted to implement a mandatory curfew, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting Friday, Dec. 4 through Wednesday, Dec. 23.

The unanimous vote came at an emergency meeting Tuesday called by Mayor Regina Romero, who first proposed the curfew to the council as officials look for new ways to slow the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases

“After consulting with public health experts and local hospitals, we have determined that additional steps are necessary to control the surge of COVID-19 cases,” Mayor Romero said in a news release Monday.

Romero's initial proposal was to start the curfew at 8 p.m., and begin immediately. The council voted to amend the measure to 10 p.m. starting Friday, giving small businesses some time to adjust.

CBS- Iconic Arecibo Observatory radio telescope collapses after cable broke

Iconic Arecibo Observatory radio telescope collapses after cable broke
DECEMBER 1, 2020 / 7:14 PM / CBS/AP

A huge radio telescope in Puerto Rico that has long played a key role in astronomical discoveries collapsed on Tuesday, officials said. The Arecibo Observatory, made famous as the backdrop for a pivotal scene in the James Bond film "GoldenEye" and other Hollywood hits, had been shuttered since August after an auxiliary cable snapped and caused a 100-foot gash on the reflector dish.

Then a main cable broke in early November, leading the National Science Foundation to declare just weeks later that it planned to close the radio telescope because the damage was too great.

(CNN)The mysterious monolith discovered last week in a Utah desert just disappeared -- but it wasn't taken by aliens or government conspiracies. It was moved by another phenomenon: TikTokers.

Colorado adventure and outdoor lifestyle photographer Ross Bernards told CNN he saw the monolith being removed by a group of four last Friday night.

Bernards, who has about a decade of experience in hiking and navigating desserts, set out to capture photos of the world-famous monolith with a group of friends last Friday after determining its location earlier in the week.
