Video shows white Milwaukee man shooting black teen as mother watches

Surveillance video submitted to a court on Tuesday showed a 76-year-old white Milwaukee man fatally shooting his 13-year-old black neighbor in the chest as the teens mother watched.
During opening statements in the trial for John Spooner, jurors saw video of 13-year-old Darius Simmons taking the trash bin in from the street on May 31, 2012. Spooner then confronts the teen on a sidewalk between their homes. He points a pistol at the teen, and then at the boys mother as she watches from the porch.
Seconds later, he points the gun back at Simmons chest and fires. The boy runs away and a second shot misses.
According to The Associated Press, Simmons mother, Patricia Larry, testified the jury that Spooner had told her to call 9-1-1 and that he was going to teach the boy a lesson for stealing.
At the time of the shooting, Spooner explained to police that some shotguns and other items had been stolen from his home and he believed Simmons was to blame.

Judge, lawyer in John Spooner case have family ties
Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Jeffrey A. Wagner and defense lawyer Franklyn Gimbel are two of the major players in this week's high-profile murder case in which a white senior citizen has been charged with gunning down a black teenager.
But Wagner and Gimbel have a personal relationship, too.
Wagner's son, Benjamin, is married to Gimbel's daughter, Rachel. The pair has a young daughter.
Is this a conflict of interest for the judge?
Wagner is presiding over the trial of John Spooner, the Milwaukee man accused of intentionally shooting and killing his unarmed 13-year-old neighbor in May 2012. Gimbel represents Spooner.
An expert on judicial ethics said there's no doubt that Wagner should voluntarily exit the case.
"Normally, I don't like to get involved with this stuff, but this isn't even close," said Frank Tuerkheimer, a University of Wisconsin-Madisonemeritus law professor and former U.S. attorney.

Just another day in Arizona: Family drove dead woman around Arizona in van with 35 animals

Police in Phoenix are investigating why the family of a woman drove her body around Arizona in a van full of animals and bugs.
According to KSAZ, Phoenix Police found 12 dogs, 22 cats, 1 pigeon and cockroaches inside of a van with the body of Lola Mae Stout. The animals were malnourished and covered in feces. Not all of them are expected to survive.
Court documents obtained by KSAZ indicated that conflicting statements were given by Lola Maes husband, Alva Stout, and her two sons, Alan and Gregory Stout.
One of the men indicated that the Lola Mae had been alive when they stopped for gas in Quartzsite.
But Alan Stout claimed that she had collapsed in Quartzsite. He said that they put her in the van anyway and then drove 120 miles to Phoenix.
The court documents said that Lola Mae had a history of strokes, high blood pressure, goiter, and schizophrenia.
The Arizona Humane Society has determined that most if not all of the animals will not recover and recommended that they be put down.

New In Science: British scientists use urine to charge cell phone
KNEEL BEFORE THE POWER OF URINE!!!!
British scientists on Tuesday reported they had harnessed the power of urine and were able to charge a mobile phone with enough electricity to send texts and surf the Internet.
Researchers from the University of Bristol and Bristol Robotics Laboratory in south west England said they had created a fuel cell that uses bacteria to break down urine to generate electricity, in a study published in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics.
No one has harnessed power from urine to do this so its an exciting discovery, said engineer Ioannis Ieropoulos.
The beauty of this fuel source is that we are not relying on the erratic nature of the wind or the sun; we are actually reusing waste to create energy.
One product that we can be sure of an unending supply is our own urine, he added.
The team grew bacteria on carbon fibre anodes and placed them inside ceramic cylinders.
