"I have decided, however, to stop taking offense at the suggestion that we are buying influence"

This is an older article, but I have found it very insightful.

Betsy DeVos wrote a biting op-ed for the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call in 1997 in which she stated that her family did indeed expect a return on their huge investments.

"I know a little something about soft money, as my family is the largest single contributor of soft money to the national Republican Party. ...I have decided, however, to stop taking offense at the suggestion that we are buying influence. Now I simply concede the point."

Michigan Jackassery, "The Integrity of Voting". More Proof It's Only If You Might Vote For A Dem

The level of corruption and fraud perpetrated by Representative Schmidt and House Speaker Bolger is beyond anything witnessed in this state in recent memory.

Prosecutor Forsyth, himself a Republican, is clearly repulsed by what he uncovered, a position made more galling by the fact that none of it was actually, in a technical sense, illegal. He wrote in his conclusion, “Although this scheme by Rep. Schmidt and Speaker Bolger was clearly designed to undermine the election and to perpetrate a “fraud” on the electorate, it was nonetheless legal … Incredibly, while it would be illegal to pay a boxer to take a “dive” or a basketball player to “point-shave’, it is not currently a crime in Michigan to recruit someone to run for public office, place them on the ballot at the “eleventh hour” and essentially pay them to make no effort to win … As a Republican elected official, I am embarrassed and offeded by what transpired.

Forsyth went further when talking to MIRS news service, saying, “I’m offended by what they tried to do here. They tried to undermine the very fabric of our country, which is a free election.”

Before the entire thing played out, Mojak, an innocent victim in all of this, along with Schmidt’s son Ryan were both offered $1,000 bribes for their involvement, money that was never paid.

Just Passing Time Boss. Hello I just made 5 posts! (I guess it's 10 post)

Hello Everyone!

I'm Krhines, I have been lurking around here and reading the great information you people provide here for a long time. I first heard about this place listening to Thom Hartmann and decide to check it out. The space between my posts have been pretty far apart, starting back with the older format a last year. I am hoping to become more active here and participate in the community (Scary word because it's close to gasp...Communism. I just heard Rush say he doesn't like that word for that specific reason). I am in my 30s and have been relatively active in protest, collecting signatures, loosely participated in my local occupy, and some other stuff of that nature. As you can tell for some unknown reason I find myself listen to the three great bringers of ruin (Beck, Hannity and The Drugster) on the radio a few times a week. I guess I like to be slowly tortured. I live in the wonderful state of Michigan (before Snyder it was much better) and have done everything I can to get rid the Nerdy Fuhrer, including, but not limited to, collecting signatures and The Blossom time parade protest last year. Also, GO BLUE! love my wolverines and if I haven't made a shit ton of grammatical and spelling errors yet it won't take long to figure out I suck at it. I think that's it, or maybe too much?
