Gov. Cuomo says he'll sue after 70 immigrant children separated from parents at border are sent to New York

Gov. Cuomo will sue the federal government over its policy of separating immigrant children from their parents at the southern border, as more than 70 of those children have wound up in facilities in New York state, including three in the Bronx.

“There’s been a lot of talk about the morality of this practice but we also believe that this practice is illegal and we are intending to bring suit against the federal government,” Cuomo said on a conference call with reporters Tuesday afternoon.

Cuomo said the children are being held in private facilities that are contracted by the federal government to provide services to unaccompanied alien children — minors who cross the border alone and who the Office of Refugee Resettlement temporarily houses while seeking family sponsors.

Sounds like they are shipping the children, dispersing them really, far from the border where their parent(s) are held. Why would they go through this inefficient operation? What are they spending to do this? What private companies are being paid to detain these kids?

China knows the end game

We import more. Tariffs hurt our people more than our tariffs hurt theirs.

With Trump we lose. We don't get the goods we want, we pay more, the trade deficit rises, and we sell less overseas.

Cutting your income when you're in the red never works out well.

The way out of a trade deficit is just like Lester Thurow said in the 1980s: invest in R&D to develop and produce cutting-edge proprietary products that other countries want. That way we sell more. Trump's way is to buy less, pay more for it, and sell less too.

The Beat Ari Melber

Ari is populating his show with a contrast of Rule of Law people and Trumpers, apparently in an effort to wake people up. I'm just not sure if giving these die-hard Trump loyalists more air time will do anything other than encourage them, and convert more of the weak-minded.

Linux Mint and Printer

Got a used HP Laserjet 1320. Works good, but the Linux install is a bit imprecise. I'm using Parallel port for example, but it is recognized in HPLIP software as USB.

I'm not clear how to network it. Some sites say I need a wireless USB printer server, others say the USB port on the router can be setup for Windows networking even though the USB on the router is just a simple entry point. I assume the same networking is possible in Linux.

I downloaded the HP User Guide, and HP has not changed much. Generic guide for scores of printers without much information! Do I leave it on, for example. It like goes into sleep mode, with just one light on. I think it's supposed to stay that way, but I'll probably turn it off as I use it about twice a week.

Thanks for any quick links you can offer. I often use a Google site https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/14 but this one didn't run according to the way they said it would.

And now I have to worry about Toner and reset chips! My old Panasonic had no such luxuries but it sure didn't work well. The drum and developer replacement cartridges were too old to function well even when new.

Pummeled with Shopping Pressure

I went to a big box retailer to buy a printer. I have no idea what I want, something laser, quick, and cheap. I could buy it online from them, and the price is great, so I thought I'd look in the store, maybe even buy one there. I looked at 2 or 3 printers in the printer aisle, and this guy in a baggy gray suit, loose red tie, acts like he's been out drinking til dawn, comes sauntering down the aisle. He asks me something like "I don't know much about printers, do you know what's a good printer?"

I say, "I don't work here."

He says, "That's ok, just what's a good one how will I know?"

I gave him 30 seconds of laser vs inkjet, and all in ones. The guy looks bewildered, looks like he slept in the suit, and has a very slight accent probably from eastern Europe. He wanders away.

Now an employee comes down the aisle. He buttonholes me. He asks me questions. He shows me this or that. Every other sentence is a suggestion to buy because of this feature, or that manufacturer. I demur. He asks me which I want. I tell him i'm thinking about one I saw at their website. Soon he has a cheerleader assistant. She's nodding at everything he says, looking at me with wide eyes, trying to boost me into the buying mood. I decline some more, and say I'm not sure. I was getting claustrophobia with those two. I walk out of the store.

I was being played for a $50 printer every bit as much as I would at an auto dealer for a $50K SUV. Note that they didn't buttonhole Mr. Sloppy Suit. He was a setup. I think he was the store detective. Just acts like a pothead to loosen up your mind so the A team can enter the field.

I found the whole experience obnoxious. I found a used, old, well functioning upscale printer on eBay for less money than their new bottom of the barrel junk.

What happened to stores you can go and browse, that respect your time, right to shop, choose for yourself? I don't make quick decisions that result in bad choices.

Designer Kate Spade found dead at 55

NEW YORK --
Kate Spade, a fashion designer known for her sleek handbags, was found hanged in her Park Avenue apartment Tuesday in an apparent suicide, law enforcement officials said.

The 55-year-old left a note at the scene and was found by housekeeping at about 10:20 a.m. It's not clear how long she had been dead. The medical examiner will perform an autopsy.

The officials said she was found with a red scarf around her neck attached to a doorknob. The officials were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Forget "Where's Melania?" this is now "Where are the Eagles?"

Trump DISinvites Philadelphia Eagles!

President Donald Trump rescinded an invitation for the Philadelphia Eagles to visit the White House on Tuesday to celebrate their Super Bowl victory.

“They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country,” Trump said in a statement. “The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better.”

He said the fans would still be welcome at the White House on Tuesday but for a different ceremony meant to “honor our great country” and “pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it.”

Several Eagles players, including safety Malcolm Jenkins and defensive end Chris Long, had said they would skip the ceremony while others had waffled on their participation. Eagles officials had left the decision up to the players.

Katy Tur Blows Up Trump's 4 Point Strategy For Surviving The Russia Investigation

https://www.politicususa.com/2018/06/04/katy-tur-blows-up-trumps-4-point-strategy-for-surviving-the-russia-investigation.html

Point two, discredit the investigation. Trump has tweeted about the investigation and that it is a witch hunt specifically 52 times. This morning he tried to again claim the investigators are biased. Quote, the never-ending witch hunt led by 13 very angry and conflicted Democrats and others continues into the mid-terms.”

Point three. Muddy the waters to confuse the public. Like this. Paul manafort came into the campaign very late, Trump says, and was with us for a short period of time. Again, not true!

…..

Finally, point four, paint Donald Trump the victim. Trump blamed the FBI for not warning him about his campaign chairman. Quote, we should have been told that Comey and the boys were doing a number on him and he wouldn’t have been hired.” Huh. So our big question today — if Donald Trump is innocent, why is he doing everything he can to take down the investigation?

Trump is trying to confuse enough people, or create just enough doubt to keep himself in office. It is a strategy that would have had zero chance of success in another era, but Trump has Fox News on his side, and they are endlessly pumping out propaganda to 2-3 million diehard Trump supporters. The Trump strategy is about creating distraction, confusion, and doubt. It is the same approach that he used during the 2016 election. The Mueller investigation has replaced Hillary Clinton, but the tactics are the same.

Frum, Frum, Frum, Frum .....

Quite a number of people are comparing President Trump's claim of a right to self-pardon to George III. In fact, Trump is asserting a much much greater power than George III ever imagined - a power for which Charles I lost his head and James II lost his throne ... more ...

The Stuart monarchs asserted a "dispensing power" that permitted them to absolve individual subjects of the duty to comply with laws.

This "dispensing power" was grievance number 6 in the famous Nineteen Propositions adopted by Parliament in 1642, leading to outright civil war.
