Dick's Sporting Goods will destroy assault-style rifles pulled from shelves
Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
When Dicks Sporting Goods said it would no longer sell modern sporting rifles at its Field & Stream stores following the Valentines Day shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school, one question was what would happen to the unsold firearms in its inventory.
Typically a retailer may return unsold merchandise to the manufacturer. But in this case, Dicks Sporting Goods has decided to destroy them.
We are in the process of destroying all firearms and accessories that are no longer for sale as a result of our February 28th policy change, a spokeswoman told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. We are destroying the firearms in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations.
The so-called assault-style rifles will be destroyed at the companys distribution centers and the parts sent to a salvage company to be recycled, the Findlay-based retailer added. The company did not say how much merchandise would be included.

Melania Says Comeys Book Not as Mean as the One She Is Writing (Borowitz)
https://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/melania-says-comeys-book-not-as-mean-as-the-one-she-is-writingWASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)Melania Trump said on Monday that she did not understand the controversy swirling around James Comeys new memoir, because the book she is writing is so much meaner.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, she said that she had obtained an advance copy of Comeys book because she couldnt wait to read it, but said that she found its tone and contents disappointingly mild.
It felt like he was pulling his punches, she said. No one will say that when they read my book.
She said that, as a fellow-author, she had sympathy for Comey. Clearly, he was trying very hard to be nasty, and he deserves credit for effort, she said. But I will show him how it is done.
When reporters expressed surprise at the news that Trump was writing a book, she replied, I am alone much of the time. That is ideal for a writer. And now, if youll excuse me, I must get back to my desk.
Man Shares Hilarious Story Of Why Hotel Banned Him For Life
http://www.reshareworthy.com/man-banned-from-hotel-seagulls-story/?utm_source=Reshareworthy+Newsletter&utm_campaign=29bf5dd221-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_12_18&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_6e07917f92-29bf5dd221-196848253A man who got banned from the Fairmont Empress hotel in Victoria, Canada, asked the hotel to forgive him 17 years later. Nick Burchill was staying at the posh hotel for a business meeting when all the trouble began.
His story starts with him bringing a suitcase full of pepperoni to his room. He planned on sending the cured meat to his friends in the Navy. But to stop it from spoiling, he opened the window. Thats when all hell broke loose.
In a hilarious Facebook post, Nick relates how he left his room before events snowball into disaster after disaster.
28 March 2018
Dear Empress Hotel:
This may seem like and unusual request, but I write to you today, seeking a pardon.
17 Years ago a string of unfortunate events led to my being banned from your hotel. I would like to explain the incident
Well worth following the link above and reading the entire story if you want a good LOL.

We hear to much about police shooting dogs. Here is a MUCH better story.
Police Officer Soothes Dog Who Bit Him While On A Call For Service
http://www.reshareworthy.com/police-officer-soothes-dog-who-bit-him/#cFX5lyLzb8C5pYB7.99
A Texas dog owner is thanking a police officer for reacting with compassion rather than force after his dog bit him.
The incident occurred when Geoff Wightman called Round Rock Police after he noticed a neighborhood disturbance. The war veteran and father let the dispatcher know that his four-year-old son and his dog Jilaroo were at home with him.
Jillaroo is an Australian Shepherd with a protective nature. The loyal dog helped protect her home and family while Geoff served overseas. Officer Randall Frederick showed up at their door early and Geoff did not have time to secure Jillaroo away. So when Geoffs son answered the door and Jillaroo saw the stranger approach the boy, she reacted instinctively and bit Officer Frederick on the leg. But instead of reacting aggressively, the cop attempted to soothe and calm Jillaroo.
What Frederick did impressed Geoff that he wrote a letter to the department to express how impressed and thankful he was by the officers actions.
Below is an excerpt from Geoffs letter:
Today, I needed to file a report about a disturbance and the dispatcher who took my report said the patrolman would call before he arrived. We have one dog (an Australian Shepherd) who is very protective of my family.
When the officer arrived and rang the doorbell earlier than I expected, I ran downstairs, but my four year old son was already at the door with our dog. When my son opened the door and started to approach the Officer, the dog immediately put herself between him and the Officer and ended up biting the Officer twice on the leg not viciously, but still creating bruises and breaking skin. The Officer was slowly backing up and trying to get her to calm down with outstretched hands. Luckily I was there an instant later and separated her.
The Officer then proceeded to take my report about the issue I had originally called about in a very calm and professional manner. I asked him if my dog got him and he said Yeah a little I am sorry I should have called first. (He did not need to call or apologize at all). Protocol necessitated he call in the bite (understandable) so that Animal Control could take a report and do a rabies vaccination check and the standard 10 day in home quarantine BUT thats where it ended. The Officer did not strike back against my dog during the incident, did not act disproportionately, he did not file charges or wish her punished, but instead said She was just doing her job.
He was absolutely professional and trained and we thank him for it, as we know it could have turned out very differently. I am a grown man, a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan, and I am getting emotional over this. We love our sweet dog with all our heart but she is extremely protective, which is a quality in this day and age that is both bad and good with an outcome that always comes down to who is involved.
I tried to look up news stories where Police Officers had been bitten by dogs to glean some perspective, but all I saw were terrible stories where dogs were being tased and shot by the Police sometimes with very ambiguous circumstances.
I want everyone to know that in Round Rock, TX we have some pretty darn fine police officers who do a job a lot of the time without much thanks or recognition. This little incident should show you what kind of caliber people we have protecting us and maybe they should get a little credit from time to time for doing things right that nationally seem to be very difficult. I will be shaking all RRPD Officers hands when I see them from now on.
Appropriately, Officer Frederick has also been commended by his department for his handling of the situation. He received a Chiefs CHIP Challenge coin in recognition of his compassionate and intelligent response to the situation.
Citizenship question on census form.
If you haven't heard, Trump and Co. have overruled everyone and is adding a question to the 2020 Census form asking if you are a US Citizen Y/N.
If the question survives all the legal challenges and actually does appear, I have decided that I will simply leave it blank and refuse to answer. If a census taker challenges me about it I will invoke my 5th Amendment right and refuse to answer on the grounds that it might tend to incriminate me.
(Of course the fact that I have voted in every election available to me for 50 years probably means that a) I'm a citizen, or b) I am really, really, good (for getting by with it for 50 years) at fraudulent voter registration and, at the same time, really, really bad (for only voting once in each election) at fraudulent voter registration.)
Dr. Seuss meets Trump
I do not like President 45
I do not like his orange beehive
I do not like his passing blame
His shouts of FAKE NEWS are so lame
I do not like his Russian spies
His speeches of inflated size
I do not like his Cabinet of crooks
Or the current way my country looks
I do not like his racist rants
Or how he grabs a woman's pants
I do not like it, not at all
I'm looking at his poll numbers fall
I do not want four years to pass
We're sick of waiting, IMPEACH HIS ASS!

Vandalized Arizona Mosque Flooded With Support From Interfaith Allies
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/vandalized-arizona-mosque-flooded-with-support-from-interfaith-allies_us_5ab158a9e4b054d118dd9f7cWeeks after two women filmed themselves vandalizing a mosque in Tempe, Arizona, members of the local interfaith community showed up en masse to stand in solidarity with their Muslim neighbors.
Kristy Sabbah, office manager at the Islamic Community Center of Tempe, said the messages of support from allies havent yet stopped pouring in.
The response from the interfaith community has been overwhelming, Sabbah told HuffPost in an email.
The mosque continues to receive phone calls, emails and Facebook messages from people expressing their solidarity, she said. Interfaith allies are also sending the center flowers and sweets. Many have even brought their children to the Islamic center with handmade cards of love and encouragement.
Its beautiful to see how two peoples hate brought together hundreds of people in love, Sabbah said.
