Martin68's JournalThe more facts we learn, the more evident it is how far the right, and SCOTUS, have strayed from
principles that were taken for granted (and thus had no need of written confirmation) when the Constitution was signed. The right basically decides for themselves what the Founders had in mind, and rejects any proof that suggests they are completely wrong.
Trump united the wingnuts, conspiracy theorists, the uninformed and ill-informed,
and conservatives without marketable or employable skills who can't understand that their party's policies are the reason they are unemployed and uninsured.
Yup, that's the idea. A fabricated mental construction that makes them right, and proves that anyone
who disagrees with them is wrong. Not much room for discussion, reasoning, facts, or knowledge.
Trumpers, Magats, and GOPers don't do logic. They have a personal "Bible" in their heads that they
consult. A "Bible" that is missing much of the original material, and contains a great deal of added "beliefs." It has a whole chapter on the 2nd Amendment, and another one on the founding of the U.S.A. by God.
This summarizes the biggest problem with our current Supreme Court.
Of course, every issue raised here is a problem because of actions and decisions being made by conservative judges - judges who rule based on a conservative ideology rather than on the Constitution or established precedent. I might add that at least three of those same judges lied to the Senate when testifying during their own nomination approve process.
This decision shows how important the world's gaze on events in Ukraine is in Putin's little mind.
There has never been a war that has been more thoroughly documented and tracked in real time.
China is driving Asian countries in to alliances with the U.S. Much like Putin's invasion pushed
NATO a lot closer.
Absolutely true, but nuclear war is only unthinkable if both sides know the other side is willing to
respond to a nuclear attack in kind. The same goes for chemical and biological warfare. Unless mutual destruction is guaranteed, an ambitious authoritarian is tempted to test the proposition. There must be no doubt in any one's minds that a nuclear attack of any kind will invite a nuclear attack in return. Yes, nuclear war is madness and unthinkable. But the only way to prevent it is to promise nuclear retaliation in response to a the detonation of a nuclear device. Mind you, if Putin ever employed a tactical nuclear device in Ukraine he would blame the U.S., the Ukranians, or anybody else for the attack. Again, if a response in kind did not occur, it would encourage further use of an unthinkable weapon.
