Rep. Barbara Lee: “Please Send Alan Grayson Back To Congress”

Today's "30 Days to Victory" Alan Grayson Moneybomb video is from Rep. Barbara Lee. Barbara Lee has served as Chair of the Progressive Caucus, and the Congressional Black Caucus. She was the only Member of Congress to vote against the war in Afghanistan, and she was a founding member of the Out of Iraq Caucus. She is a great champion in the cause of peace.

Here is why Rep. Barbara Lee is urging you to support Alan's campaign:

I am Congresswoman Barbara Lee, and I represent the 9th Congressional District of California, which includes Oakland and Berkeley, California. And I am asking you today to please send Alan Grayson back to Congress. We need him.

Your donations, in whatever amount, will really make sure that he is re-elected. You know this money in politics, this corporate money [following the Supreme Court's decision in] Citizens United, really has begun to attempt to erode our democracy. But I know that you are going to contribute whatever you can, to make sure that Alan is re-elected.

Let me just say that he is such a strong voice for so many issues, especially around foreign policy and ending the war in Iraq. I worked with him on that. It was an honor, and I will tell you one thing: the House of Representatives is a much better place because of Alan Grayson. So we need him back. We have many battles to fight.

It's important that you donate to him, and you do it as quickly as possible. I am going to help him out, and I hope that you all do that too, because you are his constituents. He is your voice here in Congress, and we look forward to working with him as he is sworn in in January.

The Koch Brothers Attack Begins - Now

According to Forbes magazine, the Koch Brothers are the fourth and fifth richest Americans; between them, they have $62,000,000,000. They have pledge to spend a mere $60,000,000 of that fortune to defeat President Obama. Their front group, “Americans for Prosperity,” already has spent $33,000,000 on 44,207 ads in the presidential race alone. And they peeled of $2,000,000 to run blistering, insulting ads against me in 2010.

Well, they’re back. And that’s why I need your help, right now.

Yesterday, the Koch Brothers’ front-group delivered 27”-long door hangers to Orlando. At the top, they feature something that you wouldn’t think is possible – pictures of me and President Obama that make me look darker than the President is. Below that, there is this headline: “ALAN GRAYSON: A Rubber Stamp For Obama’s Failing Agenda.”

I’m sure that it will come as a surprise to the White House that I’m a rubber stamp for them. But the Koch Brothers apparently think I am.

There follows the usual right-wing propaganda: complaints about the “healthcare takeover,” “green energy scams,” and “debt ceiling increases.” I actually voted against both debt ceiling increases, but hey, the Koch Brothers never let the truth get in their way.

And then there is this: “Alan Grayson’s policies support the job-killing agenda of President Obama and hurt Florida families.” Lies, piled upon lies, and heaped over more lies. We actually brought so much money into Orlando that the local employment rate dropped below the statewide rate for the first time in years.

It comes down to this: we need YOUR help to fight THEIR lies with OUR truth. And we need your help now.

And here is the kicker: how much of this agitprop tripe do you think that the Koch Brothers delivered to Orlando yesterday? Answer: 80,000 copies. Enough to hang one on the door of every single likely Republican voter in our district, and plenty of Independents and Democrats, too. Because they have money to burn.

Look, the time has come. As Shakespeare put it in Julius Caesar, they have cried “havoc,” and let slip the dogs of war.

Former Rep. Pat Schroeder: “I Want Alan Grayson to Be My Congressman”

Today's "30 Days to Victory" Moneybomb video is from former Member of Congress and progressive icon Pat Schroeder. Pat represented Alan Grayson years ago when Alan lived in Colorado, and Alan represented Pat after she moved to Florida. Pat juggled being a mother and a Member of Congress, sometimes bringing diapers to the Floor of the House. She was a leading proponent of the Family and Medical Leave Act, which requires employers to give employees unpaid leave for family and medical emergencies. Pat Schroeder's memoir of her time in Congress is entitled, "24 Years of House Work . . . And the Place is Still a Mess."

Here is why Pat Schroeder is urging you to support Alan's campaign:

I'm former Congresswoman Pat Schroder. For a long time I was in Congress, representing Colorado and doing everything I could to promote women's and progressive issues.

But let me tell you, now I live in Florida, and my Congressman was Alan Grayson. I want him back! He was so important. He was one of the very few guys who was really willing to roll up his shirt sleeves and fight -- fight for real people rather than the big corporate interests.

So he was a refreshing breath of air. He also probably has more smarts than half the Congress put together!

This is what John Lewis said about Alan Grayson, and why you should support Alan’s campaign:

I’m John Lewis. During the Sixties, I was very active in the American Civil Rights Movement. I marched with, and worked with, Martin Luther King Jr., to change America -- to make America better.

I must tell you, now more than ever before, we need Alan Grayson back into the Congress. To work with us. To help move America forward, and not backward.

Alan Grayson stood up, he spoke up, and he spoke out when he was in the Congress. We need him back -- not just this district, not just the state of Florida, but the state of Georgia, and America, needs this man.

He is a fighter. He believes in the very best of America. He believes that we have a right to healthcare, that we have right to know what is in the water we drink, and the food we eat, the air we breathe.

We’re Back On The Air – Thanks To You

We told you on Sunday that we were off the air, thanks to the fact that the Koch Brothers and Karl Rove had pushed the cost of TV ads in Orlando sky-high. And we said that we would take all of the contributions that we received through close of business yesterday, and use that money to put our uplifting, inspirational positive ad back on TV.

Well, 1000+ of us answered the call, and that ad went back up on the air this morning.

If you are one of those 1000+ supporters who contributed, thank you. If you are not, then you can alleviate the desperate guilt and shame that you must feel by contributing right now. You will soon feel better. And after Nov. 6, so will America.

Here is today’s miscellany:

(1) The winner of the Green Day autographed guitar is Judith Wilson. If you are disappointed that you didn’t win the Green Day guitar, all I can say is that my younger daughter is even more disappointed than you are, and she didn’t win it, either. Thanks again to Howie Klein, former Warner Reprise Records exec and current Blue America PAC leader, who provided the guitar from his incredible personal collection. We wanted to make the presentation of the guitar as special as the guitar itself, so we invited Democratic House Assistant Leader Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) to present the guitar to Judith during Clyburn’s visit to Orlando, last Friday.

(2) Dennis Kucinich wants to continue to do good after he leaves Congress in January. He has founded an organization called Kucinich Action, which will function as a political action committee. Kucinich Action is deciding which candidates to support. Naturally, I hope that I’m one of them. If you have a moment, please click here, and ask Kucinich Action to support yours truly.

(3) Good news and bad news about our campaign. The good news is that our poll last week shows us with a nice lead. The bad news is that a right-wing Super PAC that attacks House Democratic candidates has reserved almost $1 million in TV time in Orlando for the last two weeks in October. So . . . we need your help.

(4) A reminder to those who find themselves with more time than money these days – please sign up for our virtual phone bank. It helps you to make calls to voters in our district. We need your help on this, like, now.

(5) On Sunday, we are having our last moneybomb of this election cycle – “30 Days to Victory.” When you decide whether to participate, please remember one thing – this is virtually the only campaign in America, in either party, that is fueled by contributions from people like you. Not the special interests, not the lobbyists, not the billionaires, not the multinational corporations. People like you. And because of that, when we win on Nov. 6, I will owe nothing to anyone but the voters. Thanks to you.
