"The Measles of Mankind"—10 Stand Out Quotes on Nationalism

Today's political discourse is afflicted with virulent strains of fear-mongering and isolationism. As an antidote, here are 10 quotes on nationalism from some of history's strong progressive voices.

1. "Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind."
—Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

4. "Imagine there's no countries. It isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for."
—John Lennon (1940-1980)

5. "The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren and to do good is my religion."
—Thomas Paine (1737-1809)

7. "So we draw lines around our property, our counties, our cities, our states, our countries. And, boy, do we act as if those lines are important. I mean, we go to war. We will kill and die to protect those boundaries. Nature couldn't give two hoots about our national boundaries."
—David Suzuki (1936-)

Trump: "There has to be some form of punishment for women who have abortions, like maybe we replace her with a hotter woman from Slovenia."

My religion forbids contraception, so I should not have to pay my employees since they MIGHT use those wages to purchase birth control.

Trump: "Yes, Corey Lewandowski assaulted a reporter, but it's her fault for being a journalist instead of a beauty pageant contestant."

Bernie Sanders & Al Franken are coming to Wisconsin

Democratic Party Founders Day Gala 2016
Saturday, April 2nd | 6:00 PM
Wisconsin Center | 400 W Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53203

Tickets are $50

Just in time to bump up the numbers for our April 5th primary!!

Russ Feingold currently leads RoJo, but RoJo has three PACs. Can you spare a dime for Russ?

Russ is as good as it gets, and we need him back in the Senate. Please help if you can.

ActBlue for Russ

from my email ...

This race is really close.

The latest Marquette poll results are in, and they confirm what we've always known: This is going to be a tough, close race, and grassroots supporters like you are going to make the difference for our campaign.

Russ may still be ahead, but right now -- more than ever -- we can't let up. Senator Johnson now has three super PACs and special interests supporting him. We have you, and we can't do this without you.

The stakes are too high. We need your help.

I don't have to tell you why Senator Johnson is wrong for Wisconsin. He's a reliable vote for the special interests. He refuses to do his job and consider President Obama's Supreme Court nominee. His big money backers are going all in to protect him, and we need you to help us fight back.

Tomorr‌ow is the next FEC deadline and we're still short of our $100,000 goal. Will you step up today and make a donation before the deadline?

Donate $25 or more before our deadline tomorrow.

Thank you for keeping us moving forward.

Debbie's Record

Here's what I could find ...

Lost the House, the Senate and over 900 state seats while Chair of the DNC
Supported Republicans over Democrats in two Florida districts
Conceded entire districts to the Louis Gohmerts and Joni Ernsts of this world by abandoning the 50-state strategy
Supported a Republican retread for the Florida Democratic Party Gubernatorial candidate (he lost to Rick Scott, again)
Undermined President Obama's treaty with Iran
Shilled for the private prison industry
Shilled for the booze industry
Shilled for the payday loan industry
Blamed the voters for her failures

There must be more. Some here insist she's a progressive. President Obama says so himself!

What progressive legislation has she introduced or otherwise supported?

What progressive candidates has she backed?

What other progressive actions has she taken that I've missed?

Lack of enthusiasm for Bernie in Wisconsin

Yeah, the line is only four blocks long an hour before the doors open...

Bernie will be in Appleton today. Just got the pic from Crystal Dancer, who is waiting in line with three friends. Interesting that all these 60 year old (and older), white women aren't supporting Hillary.

The definition of "progressive" must have been revised ...

from my email ...

Today, we’re excited to tell you that President Obama announced his unwavering support for Debbie in her race for Congress.

The President praised Debbie’s fearless work for South Florida’s families, saying:

“Debbie has been a strong, progressive leader in Congress and a hardworking, committed Chair of our national Party since I proudly nominated her to the role in 2011.

She always stands up and fights for what is right for her district while passionately supporting middle class families.

Throughout my time as President I have seen Debbie bring an unwavering commitment to her family, her constituents, and our shared goals of protecting seniors, supporting working families, and expanding economic opportunity for more people.

I strongly endorse her reelection to Congress and look forward to her future service on behalf of the people of South Florida.” - President Barack Obama

Shameful, outright lies from POTUS. Expanding economic opportunity for loan sharks ain't quite the same thing as helping the people, Mr. President.

These people are amazing

I don't have official numbers, but reports I'm hearing indicate we had some five dozen people show up today to walk neighborhoods and hang door hangers. There were enough people and hangers to cover our small community of 6,000 and several other small towns in the area. Overall, some 10,000 hangers were left on doors today. An amazing group of volunteers.

Last Saturday we had a sign-making party as recounted here at which we punched the holes out of all the door hangers and put them in bundles of 80. I'm told everyone took at least one bundle and several took two and three and four.

Looking for a great turnout for our march and rally Saturday and an even better turnout at the polls next April 5th!!
