Can You Spot a Liar? Enlightening article about con artists...

Enlightening article by Olga Khazan from Jan. 2016
Highlighting an interview with the author of “The Confidence Game”, Maria Konnikova.

It’s the cretin in the White House to the core.
In particular, her explanation of the “dark triad”...

(Snipped excerpt):

“Konnikova: The dark triad is three things, obviously, including psychopathy, the inability to feel emotion in the way that normal people do. It’s kind of a lack of empathy. Your brain is actually different, you process emotional stimuli differently. To you, they don’t mean that much. It’s very difficult for a non-psychopath to understand, but basically everything that would really make you emotionally engaged would leave you cold as a psychopath, so that’s one part of it.

The second part is narcissism, this overblown ego where you not only think you’re just the best thing that’s ever happened to anyone, but you also think you deserve a lot. You deserve basically everyone to bow down to you. And you have it coming to you, all these good things. So if you notice a lot of the con artists in the book, they want shortcuts, they don’t want to work hard for their rewards, because they think they deserve them. They are people who steal credentials because they don’t feel like getting a Ph.D. But they think they’re smarter than the people with Ph.D.s.

Finally, it's Machiavellianism, or the ability to manipulate people into doing what you want. Kind of like Machiavelli’s Ideal Prince, you have your own ends and you use whatever means you want to get there. And you’re very good at tricking those people and getting them to do what you want.“

Times Up movement hits the Golden Globes Red Carpet! Awesome, ladies :)

Making a glamorous statement about a serious problem. I missed most of this news this week.
But it’s pretty cool.

Heres the deal: Bottom line Pledge to Vote and Vote for Democrats...

No matter the candidates, the debates, the infighting, advocacy, message board wars, media chaos, suppression, hacking, frustrations, fears, sadness, outrage...
Vote the Democrat Ticket, on every level. No matter who ends up the candidate for any office.
Pledge it now.
No matter what.
Discuss, argue, fight about or agree on every single issue little or huge in the meantime.
Healthy debate, profound discussion, outrage, passion. All of it.
But pledge to VOTE. Make everyone you know who will vote Democratic, vote.
Do not fail in this.

The opposition counts on our passions to divide us.
We must insist that our passion for the bottom line unites us.
We can’t fail this time.
We must Pledge.
We can still debate and argue and will!
But we must Pledge.

I juggle sadness and anger. Franken fought hard to get to the

place where he could be a warrior for liberal and Democratic beliefs. His fights were dedicated, determined and successful without the ultra drama of flashier, pandering egomaniacs.

Republicans targeted his seat because they saw a potential “opening” and vulnerability and the added perk of bringing down a former member of SNL was just too much to resist. We all know Republicans haven’t got an iota of humor or wit but shitloads of vengeance agenda and soulless plotting.

Also, because the insidious hideousness of sexual harassment is finally and successfully being addressed, they saw an opportunity to use that as well.

The initial allegation against Franken was an insulting embarrassment and disservice to the millions of women who ARE victimized and targeted, and after the flurry of “fifteen minutes of fame”, the woman’s victimization could be seen for what it was, a hit job. In this climate of “The Stupid” and reality show mentality ratings obsession it was a breeze to get tons of air time and Internet attention. Even so, Franken owned up to the embarrassment of a juvenile photo op and put himself squarely and honestly in the hands of a Senate’s ethics commitee investigation.

In this instance, the other pile-on allegations that weren’t cloaked by the sometimes sorely abused convenience of “anonymity” were lame at best~ and another outrageous disservice to the sufferings of true victims of abuse and predators , who genuinely guard their privacy and lives with sound reasons.

The Perfect Storm of political opportunity to attack.

And then his fellow/Pal/co-worker/friend Democrat Senators stepped up to bring him totally down. Jaysus, how eager they were. And in this woman’s eyes, how easily and predictably manipulated they were when in the “name” of the high road (Which Republicans never travel) they denied a fair and honest chance for Al Franken to challenge the allegations, face his accusers, openly investigate all and accept their findings, with total co-operation.
(Accusers who miraculously drifted off into the convenient land of nothingness immediately)
Et tu, Democrats?

The Republicans quietly and smugly smiled. Check off another easy target. Democrats administered the final shot to the head. Our own head.

Now plot to take that seat, Republicans!

We lose a warrior and my juggling act continues.

One womans opinion: People are the real problem, not the medium the use to communicate...

With every pro, there is a likely con. Both can be powerful.

Bottom line, no matter how enabling to dangerous ignorance and damaging incivility social media has been to our culture, it has also allowed us to communicate.

It has brought families and friends separated by miles, instantly reachable. It has given us the immeasurable ability to meet and develop personal communications with people we would never have met just by walking out of our doors. It has given us the open hallways to knowledge and advocacy and having our voices heard.

The problem and faults will always lie within the individual’s ability to act decently.

That obviously can be a huge problem. And very ugly.

But the potential and power of turning that behavior into or towards something more productive and beneficial to all must still be the defining factor.
