Castle Doctrine legislation took another young life in WI on March 3

Friends said the 20-year-old had just left a party when the shooting happened. They told 12 News they believe a neighbor mistook him for an intruder and shot him to death.
It all happened on the 100 block of Kettle Moraine Drive.
Police said the homeowner called them saying he shot an intruder on his porch. But Morrison's friends, who were with him at the party that night, said Morrison would not have tried to break into the home.

Judge rules that Bob Kerrey (Nebraska) can run for the US Senate.

Republicans must be scared of Kerrey as they sure went to great lengths to keep him off the ballot.

Great job South Dakota! In a land where right-wing talk shows, & news has a monopoly

Brookings, SD is airing DemocracyNow! Breaking the sound barrier with the first station in the state airing DN.

Does anyone here have a mesh network in their community?

If one got one of these networks working in a community, would that mean that people on the networks would no longer need to pay an ISP for connectivity?

This American Life -- Has it "jumped the shark"?

I just listened to the humiliation of Mike Daisey by Ira. I enjoy a bit of schadenfreuden as much as the next American -- in moderation. A simple redaction, or even a 5-10 minute redaction is dignified. Forty minutes into the show, and a public humiliation of Daisey has me cringing.

Global Warming sucks. I don't want to garden yet.

I don't wanna get out the lawn mower, or mulch, or even be outside without a hat. It's March. I'm still hibernating. Screw this.

Love the new colors on DU. I think it makes the site really pop. That's all. nt

Fred Thompson is trying to remove gender identity from the bill.

Does the FCC's failure to fine Limbaugh represent regulatory capture?

Per wikipedia:

In economics, regulatory capture occurs when a state regulatory agency created to act in the public interest instead advances the commercial or special interests that dominate the industry or sector it is charged with regulating. Regulatory capture is a form of government failure, as it can act as an encouragement for large firms to produce negative externalities. The agencies are called "captured agencies".

Lies, bias, slander, and solicitation for pornography aren't an efficient use of our airwaves, and it creates inefficiencies in our government -- i.e. wasting time with all-male religious panels to discuss birth control, which then are countered by one female, who then is demonized, and then our executive branch contacts the slandered citizen because the de facto leader of the Repugs is a bully.

Is the recession gouging Nebraska's football budget? Asst. coach squatting in Memorial stadium.

That's where Ron Brown is listing his address when speaking before the Omaha city council. Brown would like Omaha city council members to think of Jesus when deciding whether to include sexual orientation and gender identity in the city's non-discrimination, employment ordinance.
