The debate about the release of the secret documents is a mix of TWO SEPARATE ARGUMENTS.

I look at the documents that have been released and pay little attention to the proclamations, and character analyses of those who exposed them.
There has been little pushback about their authenticity when published as is without editing except for redacting names by some.

Many people including the administration are spending their time attacking his work, his character, and debating whether he is a hero or a not. Snowden is experiencing the same thing.

There are TWO SEPARATE ISSUES
1-Greenwald's and Snowden's motives, character, analysis, opinions, 'hero or not' debate and other items are one set of arguments.
2-The analysis of the documents, the law that allows these programs, and other points are a separate debate.

The issue of whether you don't like the messenger or the mailman is not germane. It is a red herring to distract the focus from where it should be. It should be focused on the content of the documents.

Rick Perry is tacky, unmannered, and he wasn't raised right.

Those are his good traits.
Any one of those is a mortal sin, and he hit the trifecta.

Beyond being the gold standard for jackasses, he is beyond stupid. Who in their right political minds attacks someone personally who is riding a huge wave of popularity?

He may get props from his herd of nutjobs, but he added fuel to the fire that Wendy Davis started. Women in Texas are objecting to being treated as nonentities. Many of them may have been irritated, but they are now starting to express their anger openly. This is not confined to Texas.

Every time Perry or anybody else makes noxious remarks about women or tries to pass restrictive legislation, more women are prompted to get off their butts and begin to publicly react.

The importance of Wendy Davis and her filibuster cannot be overstated. An individual to rally around is priceless. More than one movement has been started because of something an individual did or something done to them.

The fact that she is such a positive, fearless, and outspoken leader only adds to the groundswell. Her actions are not only great for the prochoice movement but also to other people trying to fight injustice.

Hopefully, she will gain higher office. However, even if she faded away, Davis has already accomplished more than many and would always be a beacon to point the way.

If Rachel Jeantel were to post on DU today,

many people would immediately chide her for her diction and/or using the term retarded.

At some point, they might consider her situation. That would not be high on some lists.

Trayvon Martin's friend and a key witness made a lot more sense than you think

<snip>
There are several possible reasons why Jeantel feigned on whether calling someone a cracker was racially-motivated. It could be because she wants to protect her dead friend. It could be because she’s extremely uncomfortable. Much of her irritable reticence is predictable of someone of modest education reacting to an unfamiliar type of interrogation on the witness stand. As natural as many educated people find direct questions, they are culturally rather unusual worldwide, an artifice of educational procedure. In oral cultures – i.e. most cultures— direct questions are processed as abrupt and confrontational. In that, Jeantel is operating at a clear disadvantage.

Yet one problem Jeantel is not having is with English itself. Many are seeing her as speaking under some kind of influence from the Haitian Creole that is her mother’s tongue, but that language has played the same role in her life that Yiddish did in George Gershwin’s – her English is perfect.

It’s just that it’s Black English, which has rules as complex as the mainstream English of William F. Buckley. They’re just different rules. If she says to the defense lawyer interrogating her “I had told you” instead of “I told you” it’s not because it’s Haitian—black people around the country use what is called the preterite “had,” which I always heard my Philadelphia cousins using when I was a kid.

She's not stupid.
She was doing the best she could which I think was fine.
Put yourself in her position.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marathon shoe for marathon filibustering
The next time you have to spend 13 hours on your feet without food, water or bathroom breaks, this is the shoe for you. Guaranteed to outrun patriarchy on race day.

1.0 out of 5 stars Men, do not try these on!
I tried on a pair at the local mall and suddenly Texas Republicans started telling me what to do with my genitals. They started explaining reproduction to me like I was a seventh grader. Unfortunately, being male, I had no way to shut the whole thing down. I'm so confused...
