Housing market set to cause trouble

The problem:
2 types of Mortgage loans are fixing to re-set.

HAMP loans are good for 5 years only. First HAMP loans were made 5 years ago.
Almost 90% of HAMP loans will see increases, over the next 5 years.

HELOCS, which were good for 10 years, are now ready to start re-setting.
(Home Equity Line of Credit)
AKA 2nd mortgage.

Once the loan turns 10 years old, these so-called Helocs begin to add principal to the interest-only payments homeowners have been accustomed to paying. For some, those reset payments will be in the neighbourhood of $500 to $600 more each month.

Since the REAL economy, the one we have to live in day to day, has gotten so much worse from 2008,
many of these increased housing loans will not be affordable.

oh oh....Condoleezza Rice joins Dropbox's board...time to drop that site.

Rice is a famous figure, known in almost equal parts for her ferocious intelligence, and controversial role in the Bush administration,

and
Rice’s firm RiceHadleyGates has been an active advisor to Dropbox. TechCrunch confirmed the hire.

What’s interesting about bringing Rice onto Dropbox’s board is how normal it feels. Dropbox needs people with international experience to help it at once deal with foreign governments that have blocked its use

WASHINGTON -- Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates is going into business with two other top officials from the George W. Bush administration.

Gates will join an international consulting firm headed by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former White House national security adviser Stephen Hadley.

Gates left his Pentagon job last year. He was the only senior member of the Bush administration who stayed on to work for Democratic President Barack Obama. Gates has described himself as a Republican.

The Road does not count, since the apocalypse was not discussed, nor were many survival modes.

Falling Skies....does not count, it is now a tv show, so I can watch that
but I am in the mood to read.

A must read: Michael Lewis's book about High Frequency Trading

4 pages in, I can't put it down.
t is a stunning page turner.
The thing I like about Lewis is he writes about complex topics in plain english , and is very engaging. Sort of like Matt Taibbi.

Find out why THIS book is causing heads to explode on Wall Street and has led to the recent announced HFT investigations.

My reaction to the first chapter has been
" I had no earthly idea this even happened"
and I thought I was pretty cognizant of the issue.

Really really worth the read, and a keeper for my shelf.

According to stunning new numbers just released by the federal government, that we detailed yesterday, nine of the top ten most commonly held jobs in the United States pay an average wage of less than $35,000 a year. When you break that down, that means that most of these workers are making less than $3,000 a month before taxes. And once you consider how we are being taxed into oblivion, things become even more frightening. Can you pay a mortgage and support a family on just a couple grand a month? Of course not. In the old days, a single income would enable a family to live a very comfortable middle class lifestyle in most cases. But now those days are long gone.

We won!!!!!!!!!! Mozilla CEO Steps Down; Company Says It “Must Do Better”

Amid growing concern over his stance on equal marriage rights, Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich has decided to step down from his role atop the Internet biggie; a job he only began in March. At the same time, Mozilla’s leadership is issuing an apology to those who took issue with its decision to put the company co-founder in that CEO position.

Eich was the creator of the JavaScript language and a well-known and respected figure in the tech field. But at the core of the criticisms against him was a donation he made in 2008 in support of Proposition 8, the California ballot measure that outlawed same-sex marriage in the state.

This donation became a public matter in 2012, while Eich was still Chief Technology Officer at Mozilla. While the news drew some negative attention to Mozilla at the time, it wasn’t until the company named him CEO in March 2014 that people really began to care.

Most notably, online dating site OKcupid recently “blocked” the site for users of Mozilla’s Firefox browser (it actually just put up an announcement that made it look like the site was blocked but gave users the option to click through to continue using on the browser) to bring attention to Eich’s past.

Has anyone noticed I really really really do not care for this bank?
teach them to screw with my mortgage!
Today I read somewhere in my browsing that BOA has paid out SIXTY Billion in fines and fees over the last few years.
Not enough, I say.

Bank Of America May Pay $800 Million For Questionable Credit Card Add-Ons


There’s another big legal bill on the horizon for Bank of America, as reports indicate the bank may soon agree to pay $800 million to settle allegations tied to sketchy add-on services for credit card customers.

The Wall Street Journal reports that BofA is working out a deal with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which has has been going after credit card issuers for pushing customers into paying for questionable add-on services like identity-theft protection and programs that are supposed to help cardholders who lose their jobs.

Many such add-ons were good revenue generators for the banks, but often offered little to no protection for those stuck paying the fees. Since the CFPB began going after these programs — like last year’s $70 million settlement with American Express
and the $389 million smackdown of JPMorgan Chase — a number of banks have stopped selling them.

CFPB has also made similar deals with Capital One and Discover over these upsold credit card add-ons, for $150 million and $200 million, respectively.

Another baaad telemarketer to add to your list:

They just called me.

Organization is called "public Awareness"
and says it is calling for "American Association for Ala. state Troopers"

they use whichever state they are calling for the "State" troopers name.

Live person came on line, I interrupted to get their name, then told them they are violating law because I am on the National Do Not Call list and the next time they called me, I could, and would sue them under the FCC Consumer Protection Law.

Did you know new rules came out for robocallers last Oct?

The New Rules For Robocalls

the new rules cover:

a prerecorded telemarketing call to your residential phone number

prerecorded telemarketing call or text to your wireless number

The new rules require that telemarketers first obtain your written consent:
on paper or through electronic means, including website forms, a telephone keypress, or a recording of your oral consent.

telemarketers will no longer be able to make telemarketing robocalls to your landline home telephone based solely on an “established business relationship” with you.
( this is huge!)
Businesses must now have your prior express written consent before making telemarketing robocalls to you, even if they have an established business relationship with you.
(Note: Telemarketers have never been permitted to make robocalls to your wireless phone based solely on an “established business relationship” with you).

If you purchase something from a business or contact the business to ask questions, that IS establishing a business relationship.

Telemarketers must now to allow you to opt out of receiving additional telemarketing robocalls immediately during a prerecorded telemarketing call through an automated menu.
The opt-out mechanism must be announced at the outset of the message and must be available throughout the duration of the call.

There is no change to the prior consent requirement for robocalls and texts that are not telemarketing.
These include messages regarding school closings or messages containing flight information, for example.
You do not have to give your consent for these calls to your landline home phone.
However, your oral or written consent is still required for these types of autodialed or prerecorded calls or texts made to your wireless number.
