Drastic changes in the way people do research..Lots of changes.

...When I was teaching high school students, I remember in the 70s, 80s and early 90s spending a lot of time teaching the students how to use the ...LIBRARY.. !!!!!!
............(I taught history and how to do research papers) ...........................................
...That included knowing of to use .."Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature." How to look for periodicals in the library. How to use encyclopedias. How to made note cards, and how to write and use footnotes. I told the students that they had to give credit to sources of information, and the person who wrote it. Of course, the date of the periodical, and if it was a magazine, newspaper or book. All the information had to be total and precise. Even the page numbers from the sources needed to be shown in the ...BIBLIOGRAPHY....

...TODAY...one machine does it all..Using just two words or 5 words at most. First you need to know how to work the machine that I am working now at this very moment..Then you need to know how to....COPY AND PASTE...and insert the words that you copied and pasted into.........GOOGLE SEARCH....that is all..The machine does the rest.

...A student will still need to know how to write a sentence, and possibly use the notecards to get the materials together. Knowing how to write a paragraph is still important...but a student does not need to go to the........
LIBRARY ..any more...
..I can sit at this machine, and watch live television shows, or old movies. I can get cooking lessons, or watch a variety of shows that I used to need a TV for....I can even listen to old "records" that I used to collect. I think they were called.....45s....... Is that correct?.....
....These machines have changed everything. Some people hold these machines in their hands, and do not look where they are going when they cross the street, or look where they are going while driving a car. Yes, I could go on and on and on and on....What's the use? Besides, I need to order a pizza using this machine..........
.................. ......................... ................. ........ .............

.....Hope all goes well for you today and every day.....In some ways, times have really changed.....

Is incompetence rewarded? You Be The Judge..(Not about Mr. Trump,)

...Is total incompetence rewarded? Is that possible? You be the Judge.. (idea about "You be the Judge" from the Saturday Evening Post...many years ago..)

...In a well known international company that makes airplanes, the big boss is fired by the board of directors for approval of an airplane that kills people. There is evidence that people that made the plane knew that the plane could kill people, but the big boss is not held responsible other than loosing his job. In the big boss's contract, he walks away with 50 million dollars. The plane that the big boss was responsible for has killed over 325 people. Is the big boss who approved this plane and allowing it to carry people, sitting in jail awaiting trail for killing more than 325 people? The answer is NO. But he knew the plane could kill, and did nothing...(or should have known-that was his job, to know ahead of time)..There is evidence that the people that actually made this thing, (the airplane) knew that it could kill.. but the big boss did nothing. Has the big boss been rewarded for approval of an airplane that kills? You be the judge..

...A well known country shoots down a plane that has 176 passengers and crew. Who is responsible for the shoot down?... The big boss of the country that controls the military that killed 176 people. -- says it was an "accident." That country lied about what it knew about the "shoot down" for a few days while the world waited.
... Is the big boss of that country going to be rewarded for this "mistake"? This event is still being discussed today. It is not known if the big boss of that country will be rewarded or punished for this mistake that killed 176 people...Will the country that is well known, do the same thing that the airplane company big boss did? Will incompetence be rewarded? You be the judge...Will the person that ordered the shoot down get money or sit in jail for the rest of his life? I have no idea. I Have NO Clue. I am not the judge. What do you think will happen?...................You Be the Judge..................

11 Year Old in Mexico, Tells Classmates, "Today is the day" then opens fire.

Source: CNN

CNN) — A teacher was killed and six other people injured when an 11-year-old student opened fire Friday at a private school in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, officials said.

The shooter, a sixth-grader armed with two guns, also died, said Adelaido Flores, the regional coordinator for public safety in Coahuila, near the Texas border.

Coahuila Gov. Miguel Angel Riquelme told reporters that classmates said the boy was generally well behaved but voiced a strange warning before his rampage on Friday.

"He told some classmates, 'Today is the day,' " Riquelme said.

Shortly after 8 a.m., the student asked to use the restroom. After about 15 minutes, the teacher went to look for him and found him leaving the restroom with weapons in hand, the governor said.

Riquelme said authorities believe the boy was influenced by the video game Natural Selection, a first-person shooting game. He said the boy was wearing a undershirt emblazoned with the game's name.

"He had mentioned the video game, which I believe he tried to recreate today," the governor said.

World's worst measles epidemic kills 6,000 people in Democratic Republic of Congo

Source: CNN:

Measles has killed more than 6,000 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the World Health Organization has said.

In a statement Tuesday, the organization called on international partners and agencies to increase resources to fight what it called the "world's worst measles epidemic."

Around 310,000 suspected measles cases have been reported in the DRC since last year and a shortage of funds remained a "huge impediment" to efforts to curb the outbreak, the WHO said.

The WHO said even though the agency and its international partners have vaccinated 18 million Congolese children under the age of 5 against the disease, routine immunization coverage is still low across the country. It said 25% of reported cases in the country occurred in children under 5, who are most vulnerable to the vaccine-preventable disease.

A Kenyan pastor fatally stabbed his wife in church and then killed himself on the pulpit, police say

Warning: Very strange, very weird, and very sad..CNN:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/06/africa/kenya-mombasa-church-stabbing-intl/index.html

(CNN) — A Kenyan pastor stabbed his wife during a church service and then slit his throat in a murder-suicide witnessed by the shocked congregation, local police told CNN on Monday.

On Sunday, Elijah Misiko, an assistant pastor with the Ground for God's Gospel Church in Mombasa, left his front row seat and approached his wife, senior pastor Ann Mughoi, on the pulpit and stabbed her with one of the knives he'd hidden in an envelope, police said eyewitnesses told them.

"He walked up to his wife while the church was praying as if he wanted to whisper something to her," Mombasa sub-county police commander Julius Kiragu said. "Then he took one of the knives and stabbed her (wife) two times. He believed she was dead. He then stabbed himself three times in the stomach and slit his throat."

Misiko died instantly from his stab wounds and Mughoi died at a local hospital a few hours later, police said.

The couple had been engaged in a long-running feud over the ownership and leadership of the church, Kiragu told CNN.

Top 20 Greatest Inventions of All Time...Big Think: 1. Use of Fire by Man 2. Wheel 3 ???

https://bigthink.com/paul-ratner/top-20-greatest-inventions-of-all-time

1. FIRE - it can be argued that fire was discovered rather than invented. Certainly, early humans observed incidents of fire, but it wasn't until they figured out how to control it and produce it themselves that humans could really make use of everything this new tool had to offer. The earliest use of fire goes back as far as two million years ago, while a widespread way to utilize this technology has been dated to about 125,000 years ago. Fire gave us warmth, protection, and led to a host of other key inventions and skills like cooking. The ability to cook helped us get the nutrients to support our expanding brains, giving us an indisputable advantage over other primates.

2. WHEEL - the wheel was invented by Mesopotamians around 3500 B.C., to be used in the creation of pottery. About 300 years after that, the wheel was put on a chariot and the rest is history. Wheels are ubiquitous in our everyday life, facilitating our transportation and commerce.

A lot of current leaders in the U.S. watched the Viet Nam War with skepticism.

...As the war continued and casualties mounted on both sides, many could see how worthless it was for the United States. The Iraq War was very similar. What did those wars prove? (other than companies can make a lot of money selling "war materials." These two wars in one way show how useless "war" is. They did not attempt to "Save the World" as World War II did. Viet Nam & Iraq proved how "useless war is." We know that. Bone Spurs Donnie doesn't know that. (and it looks like he doesn't care.)

Trump is much too stupid to know who he is dealing with.

The preparations that Iranians made in 1988 to revenge the accidental shoot down of an Iranian airplane were incredible. Iranian planners figured out about how many would be flying on a Pan American flight, (about the same as were killed in the first shoot down) and carried out the revenge. While Trump's shoot down might have been impulsive, the Iranian response won't be. Response will be as well planned as can be. The exact opposite of how Trump decides things.

Here is a post, (at this link) devoted to that response in 1988:

Trump's says his Tweets are "Legal Notice to Congress." He is wrong & needs to be removed.

...Trump has proved to all that he is not qualified to remain as President of the United States.
..Today in that one tweet" he proved beyond reasonable doubt to people on all sides of the aisle, that he cannot continue in his present job. It is clear to everyone who is reasonable and law abiding that his is totally wrong and the tweet goes against the Constitution of the United States. Trump does not have the power to define for all what the Constitution is. That is another branch of government, not the Executive. But the Judicial Branch.
.... And a person does not need to be a law professor to figure this out. We teach this in all of our schools as part of understanding the Constitution of the United States. The Judicial Branch interprets the laws. Members of the Executive Branch carry out the laws. Members of the Legislative Branch make the laws.
