Anyone in Japan or have resources there?

I'm at a loss for what to do and thought of my DU family.

My 24 year old daughter is teaching English in Kyoto. She has begun having terrible headaches accompanied by serious pressure behind her eyes, actually causing them to bulge out slightly. After seeing eight different medical people it's been suggested that she go see a psychiatrist.

In my opinion, she needs to see someone who practices holistic medicine, integrative medicine, functional medicine. I know no one on Kyoto or even in Japan and am having a tough time helping her.

Does anyone have any contacts or suggestions for help? At the very least I think she needs to see a migraine specialist.

Thanks so much.
Ellie

This is nowhere near over. My family has been hit

My "elder" uncle is in the hospital, but not (yet?) on a ventilator.

When will people get it that this will be with us for a long time and we need to be smart.

We need to fight NOW for vote by mail

This cannot wait until Oct or Nov. I imagine there are plenty of people working on this, but it scares me to think that we'd lose because r's block vote by mail.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to help? Who to contact?

Anyone still waiting for their stimulus check?

I keep hoping, checking my bank balance and the mail, but no luck.
Am I the only one left?

Needed: another word for "news" that is not true

I was listening to NPR this morning and they used several phrases that the buffoon often uses. The one that jars me, that he initiated and promotes all the time, is "fake news." He owns this. We must find a new word/phrase for disinformation that is presented as news. We need a word/phrase that the general public and news and can use without reinforcing his ranting.

Think of us as your elders, not the elderly

Just as referring to enslaved people is more powerful than referring to slaves, the nation should refer to Our Elders no the elderly.

A seemingly small change, but important.

Been thinking a lot about abusive families

My own family was fine. My alcoholic mother was functional, not abusive. Just emotionally absent.

But imagine having to stay home with an abusive parent during this time. I cannot. I ache for all the kids out there who regularly escape their homes and physical and emotional abuse, who are now stuck at home in a high-stress environment.

Not sure anything can be done, but it's an unaddressed pressure cooker.

hand sanitizer available

I just discovered that office supply stores (e.g. Staples, Office Depot) have hand sanitizer and will sell limited quantities to each individual. I tried to order some, but the website told me they won't ship, that I have to go to the store. I'll go tomorrow.

Given my commitment to DU I want to share this info with all of you

Asking... why do Bernie supporters want him over Elizabeth?

I'm really serious. I'd like to hear from Bernie supporters about good reasons why.
Thank you.

I think I've decided on Amy, after too much agonizing!

I get it that Klobuchar's a moderate who knows how to compromise. I know this might alienate some of the more far left contingent. I believe I value most of the same things this group does, but I don't think the country will elect a leader who espouses a far left position right now. I think Klobuchar also values much of what the Bernie gang values, but she's willing to compromise, to see the long game.

Honestly, most of us want affordable education, fair and affordable health care, election reform, etc... There is so much more uniting the candidates than separating them. But just because you're FOR something as a candidate or president doesn't make it all come true. I get really turned off by the promises, knowing much of it won't happen because of our currently broken process.

I love what Bernie has done for the conversation, and I love Warren's thoughtful approach to real issues and solutions. I love Mayor Pete's intelligence and believe he'll be president one day, maybe our first gay one. And I love Joe and his empathy and foot-in-mouth candor.

I think Amy is the one who can win and then make things happen.
