madamesilverspurs's JournalHouse rules committee -- Louise Slaughter brings it
This was on C-span this afternoon. Jim McGovern and Louise Slaughter are the only Democrats, Pete Sessions chairs (he's the one who said he can't even stand to look at Obama). Slaughter chastises Sessions for language that implies Democrats have been included in decision-making, etc. He doesn't like it, she doesn't care that he doesn't like it. Twenty minutes, worth watching.

More for November

Trashed
And then Boehner says...he says...
Seriously
On January 20, 2009, concurrent with Barack Obamas inauguration, Republican leadership publicly announced their intent to crap all over the country and blame him for the stink. Having failed in that endeavor they are now determined to bring him down through impeachment. It matters little to them that he has committed no offense that rises to the impeachable standard, it matters even less that the country and all of its citizens are dreadfully harmed by their unrelenting refusal to provide the legislative leadership with which they are tasked.
At some point the Republicans oft claimed but rarely seen love of this country should override their abject hatred of this particular president, that would be true patriotism. Instead, our veterans will continue to go wanting, our poor will continue to have less to eat while corporations will continue to revel in gluttony, our roads and bridges will continue to crumble, our schools will continue to deteriorate. Time and effort and money that could not be found for such issues will suddenly appear in abundance for impeachment. Because, you know, Kenya.
Got that?
Once upon a time

You say "endorsement," I say "what's that smell!?"
Gotta share this, just because Ted Nugent is all over the news right now, and not for being a lovely human being.
It happens that I'm part of the campaign team for a candidate running for a seat in the Colorado state senate. The position was previously held by term-limited Scott Renfroe (R-Leviticus), who gained immediate national notoriety for his freshman floor speech equating gays to murderers and worthy of the same punishment. This is a truly venomously red district, so our guy knew going in that it would be a tough battle.
Then our sheriff, also term-limited, decided that he wants the seat. This is the sheriff who led the pack in howling quite loudly about the awfulness of the President's recommendations on gun safety following the horrible events at Sandy Hook. He is all about guns, guns, and more guns, and enjoys the full-throated support of the state's LaPierre wannabe.
So, on the sheriff's campaign website, there's a button you can click to see who is endorsing him. And the second one on the list is none other than Ted Nugent:

Now we wait to see if the sheriff defends Nugent or quietly removes the endorsement. Frankly, I'll be amazed if it's the latter.
Locking a thread
Mine got locked ("...it looked like a cannon" http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025276430 ).
It was difficult to write about, but it explained, I thought, why it's necessary to speak up when legislation is called for.
Another poster tried to hijack the thread, making it about something it wasn't. I told him I wouldn't engage on that in the thread.
After receiving numerous recs, and not even one IBTL, I was astounded when the thread was locked. I expressed my unhappiness with the decision and received the suggestion to bring my query here.
