Woman Pays Thousands to Adopt Stray Dog That Protected Her From Violent Men

Her boyfriend was at a nearby cafe when the two men approached Bradley and demanded that she get a drink with them. After Bradley declined multiple times, the men became violent, but just as they started grabbing her, a small black dog showed up out of nowhere and scared the two men away. Bradley said:

“[The dog] shot out of nowhere, jumped up at me and began barking and licking my hand, and that made the men think twice. She saved me. She must have noticed something was wrong.

They decided that Pepper was a good name for their new friend, but when they tried to take her to a local vet and animal hospital, they were turned away. They couldn’t find Pepper a home and to make matters worse, the dog followed the couple back to their hotel.

“We closed the door and she waited outside the apartment, but disappeared by the morning.

“When we left [the next morning] to go to the airport, we looked back and Pepper was running after the car. It was heartbreaking.”

One murder every hour: how El Salvador became the homicide capital of the world

Source: the guardian

On the deadliest day of the century in the world’s most homicidal country, a gang leader and convicted murderer sits quietly in a vegetable farm ruing what he calls a disappearing opportunity for peace.

Marvin is a senior figure in the Mara Salvatrucha, one of El Salvador’s two biggest gangs. They have been at war with each other for two decades and now find themselves under attack by the state amid a bloody escalation of violence.

Last Sunday was, briefly, the bloodiest day yet with 40 murders. But the record was beaten on Monday with 42 deaths, and surpassed again on Tuesday with 43. Even Iraq – with its civil war, suicide bombings, mortar attacks and US drone strikes – could not match such a lethal start to the week.

For the 31-year-old gangster, such statistics are further cause for pessimism that his country is being sucked deeper into a culture of death – one that he has been part of for most of his life.

Donald Trump keeps repeating one sentence "we have to take our country back"

In the above clip, he says it:

At the seven-second mark ("We have to bring our country back, Bill."
The 15-second mark ("We have to bring our country back."
At 3:06 ("We have to start a process where we take back our country."
At 3:11 ("We have to start a process, Bill, where we take back our country".
He also said, "Our country is going to hell," which is a negative phrasing of the same idea.

ATTN: spoke to a media consultant and strategist, Joel Silberman, about the repetition of this phrase and whether it has any deeper or coded meaning.

"It's a dog whistle," Silberman said. "It's a cheap way to appeal to people who are underemployed and to blame minorities for taking jobs."

Silberman thinks the repetition might not be a coincidence.

"I would be shocked if someone with that money did not do focus groups and that was the phrase that kept coming up," Silberman said. "The language from politicians these days does not come out of the air."

The popular Christian vlogger Sam Rader—best known for “surprising” his wife with her own positive pregnancy test in a viral video—has admitted to using an account on the cheating website Ashley Madison. In a YouTube video with his wife Nia by his side, Sam claims that God has forgiven him for seeking extramarital sexual partners online.

In a video entitled 'Forgiven', uploaded to his YouTube channel, Radar said: "As you may have seen, my name has been associated with an Ashley Madison account.

"I want to clarify this with you because I owe it to you.

"I did create the account, I created it two years ago. This is an issue that is in our past, this is before I got onto YouTube.

"This was brought to my wife's attention - she has forgiven me for this mistake that I made in opening the account.

"I've sought forgiveness to God and he has forgiven me."

L.A.'s voided law against sleeping in cars costs it $1.1 million in legal fees

Source: LA times

Attorney Carol Sobel said the fee payout is one of a half-dozen agreements the city has reached with lawyers who brought civil rights challenges to police crackdowns on homeless people.

"They never learn," said Sobel, who will share the newly awarded fees with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and two other lawyers. "Instead of having money to spend on addressing the real problem of homelessness they are constantly feeding money into the bottomless pit of police suppression."

A spokesman for City Atty. Mike Feuer said he declined comment.

The vehicle-dwelling case was filed on behalf of a group of homeless people, including several disabled individuals, over a 2010 police crackdown on 250 people who began sleeping in their cars and motor homes on Venice streets at the height of the recession, Sobel said.

A federal appeals court last year struck down the ban, ruling it was unconstitutionally vague and an invitation to discriminate against the poor. The court said the ordinance could have been enforced against people for napping or keeping food in their car, including road trippers or tourists.

Gender was very skewed, though the database only identified users as either belonging to Gender 1 and Gender 2. Gender 1 made up 13.9% of users and Gender 2 was 86.1%.

"I'm no genius, but I would say I am pretty sure gender 2 is male," Jonsson said in her analysis,

Miami cop investigated for jumping into vehicle with suspect

A 47-second video that shows a Miami police officer placing a handcuffed teen in the back of a patrol car, then jumping on top of him as the woman filming the scene has her camera knocked away, has landed the officer in hot water and prompted an internal affairs investigation.

Late Thursday night Miami police hadn’t named the officer. They hadn’t named the man in handcuffs or described the charges against him. And it was unclear who the woman was who took the video, who swatted the camera away from her, or why the officer jumped into the back of the patrol car on top of the man.

What was clear: The video was going viral, having received almost 80,000 views by 11 p.m. Thursday. And the actions of the officer were being investigated late into the evening.

“While the video may seem concerning to some, the FOP [Fraternal Order of Police] is confident that when everything is analyzed within the totality of the circumstances, it will be concluded that the police officer was doing what he is supposed to be doing: Protecting our community,” said Ortiz.

27 year old bald eagle flown in from Texas to pose with Trump for Time cover photo

When Martin Schoeller scrolled through the 28 close-up portraits he had taken of Donald Trump, he was struck to see that they were all identical. “Every frame was the same,” Schoeller says. “Mr. Trump knows exactly how he looks, and he strikes one pose and doesn’t move.”

“He’s very difficult to photograph,” says Schoeller. “If you ask him to look up a little bit, he says no or he just doesn’t do it. He literally has one angle. If I ask him to smile, he puts on a big grin and then he goes back to his Zoolander ‘blue steel’ look. And the ‘blue steel’ stays for as ever long as it takes to get the photograph.”

This time, however, Schoeller wanted to try something different. “When I get an assignment, I do my research and try to figure out what kind of picture would make the most sense given who the person is and what they’ve been up to,” he says. And with Trump running for president with the slogan “Make America Great Again”, Schoeller thought about adding a bald eagle – the U.S.’s national emblem – to the photo. “Mr. Trump liked that idea,” says the photographer. “I thought he might be open to it considering he’s a man who loves attention. He likes controversy, and he likes to be in the spotlight.”

The 27-year-old American bald eagle, named Uncle Sam, was flown in from Texas by master falconer and wildlife rehabilitator Jonathan Wood – and brought to the 25th floor of the Trump Tower in mid-town Manhattan. “It’s hard to plan what animals will do,” says Schoeller. “There’s not much training you can do with a wild bird and Mr. Trump was a little hesitant holding the bird, so it was very tricky to get the bird to [stay] on his hand.”

Wood, the bald eagle’s owner, felt the shoot went well – and he would know. For the past 20 years, after Uncle Sam was hit by a car in 1994 and was deemed “non-releasable” to the wild, Wood has been crisscrossing the country with it. “I’ve done a lot of educational programs in schools with that bird,” he says. “He’s been in movies, television shows and commercials. Millions of people have seen him.”
