former prison for sale - sleeps 500, 100 structures on 325 acres

For sale: A 325-acre New York property containing more than 100 structures atop a mountain offering spectacular views. Sleeps hundreds.
And one more thing: It’s a former prison.
The economic development office says July 7 is the deadline to submit bids to turn the prison in the Adirondack foothills into a new enterprise.
The state closed the medium-security Mount McGregor Correctional Facility last summer as part of a plan to shut down four prisons because of declining inmate populations.
It’s located in the Saratoga County town of Moreau, just north of Saratoga Springs.
Some of the buildings date to 1915, when the site was home to a tuberculosis sanitarium. It was turned into a state prison in the 1970s.

so.. Tom Selleck wants his water for free ..Mr rightwing

Mr law and order

The suit says the water district sent cease-and-desist letters to Selleck after its investigator spotted the truck at the hydrant eight times the week of Sept. 29, 2013.

But the truck showed up again in December of that year, and was tracked as it proceeded to Selleck's property, according to the suit.

Then, on four straight days just last March, the same truck again drained tankloads of water from the construction site and delivered it to the Selleck ranch, the suit says.

The suit seeks an order forcing Selleck to stop using the district's water, plus reimbursement for the $21,685.55 it paid the investigator, with damages and other costs.

West Virginia Man Caught Living With Deer in His House for a Year

The deer will not be commenting.

West Virginia Natural Resources Police

West Virginia police nabbed this blurry-faced man recently because the local fuzz were tipped off that he had been keeping live deer in his home for more than a year. You are not allowed to keep a deer in your home for more than a year, or any amount of time, apparently. It’s against the law. It seems like you wouldn’t need a law to tell you how not to keep a deer in your house, but America’s a funny place sometimes. We like to push the envelope.

Let’s try to set aside the absurdity of the picture for a moment and concentrate on the facts of the case. You can have a caption contest with your friends on your own time. When police officers arrived at the man’s West Virginia home, they saw a deer standing in the middle of the house, according to the Washington Post. The man knew how this looked. “While [the officers] were interviewing the subject, they could hear the commotion in the back part of the house, and the man tried to explain it away as a dog,” a police spokesman told the Post. “He finally confessed it was a second buck.”

The spokesman said the inside of the house was covered in straw, soaked in urine, and blanketed in feces. Deer ownership is not as glamorous as it seems. The deer, which the man had raised since they were fawns thinking they were injured, were released back into the wild and the man was charged with two misdemeanors that carry a fine and possible jail time.

woman loses dog on hike 35 miles from home. 9 days later emaciated, exhausted dog jumps on her bed

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2015/jul/06/lost-dog-finds-way-home/
Rangers at the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve warned Kris Anderson nine days ago that she might as well give up on finding her lost dog, Georgia.

On the afternoon of June 27, the 8-year-old Shar Pei mix disappeared into the hills chasing a rabbit, and after many hours of fruitless searching Anderson couldn’t find a trace of her in the county park. With all the coyotes in the preserve, Anderson learned, it was unlikely that Georgia could have survived the night.

But Anderson and her daughter, Sarah Lucas, never gave up hope. Day after day, they made the 70-mile round trip to the preserve from Anderson’s home in Carlsbad.

At 8:30 Monday morning that hope was realized — Anderson was asleep at home when Georgia came barreling into her bedroom and leapt up on her bed. Emaciated, exhausted and covered in scratches, Georgia had walked at least 35 miles through canyons and suburbs, pushed open a side gate and let herself in through the backyard doggy door.

Since arriving home Monday, Georgia has spent most of her time sleeping on the couch, eating and nervously watching for Anderson whenever she left the room. Anderson said she’s so grateful to have been given a second chance with Georgia and she has pledged to follow the leash laws from now on.

“I loved to let her off-leash because it’s her spirit and her light to run, but I’m taking a vow now that I won’t do that anymore,” she said.

all employees involved in this team building prank have been fired

The video shows them dressed in jumpsuits and balaclavas similar to those worn by the Islamic fanatics and using a coat hanger as a pretend knife.

The “assassins” laugh and joke as a colleague, who has been named as Saf Ahmed, kneels down to be “executed”.

One banker then yells: “Allahu Akbar” — Arabic for “God is great” — which IS executioners scream as they murder hostages.

The film was posted on Instagram. It was later deleted but not before it was seen by appalled co-workers.

HSBC yesterday sacked all involved and apologised.

CHP 'busts' a cute freeway jaywalker

critter that's known for playing dead may have ended up really dead had the California Highway Patrol not come to its rescue.

Passing drivers alerted CHP on Friday to an opossum scurrying about on Interstate-880 near 7th Street in Oakland.

Officer Wood was able to apprehend the jaywalker before it got hit, Officer Sean Wilkenfeld of CHP Oakland told NBC Bay Area.

The suspect was released on its own recognizance in an undisclosed wooded area safely away from the freeway.

Man takes two years to figure out his dogs are black bears

At what point do you realize that your beloved puppies are actually bears?

When they start growling? When they steal your picnic basket? Or maybe almost immediately, when they stop looking like small dogs and start looking like bears.

For one Chinese man, it took two years to decide that something was distinctly un-dog-like about Spot and Fido. Wang Kaiyu, a villager in the Chinese province of Yunnan, purchased two "puppies" while on a trip in Vietnam. He described them as "lively, not picky about food and friendly with humans."

After some time went by, he realized they were behaving "strangely," although the bears would probably beg to differ on that description.

Regardless of his pets' unusual habits, Kaiyu continued to love and care for the "dogs," giving them daily grooming sessions.

Kaiyu realized the harsh and hairy truth when he saw a wildlife protection promotion regarding Asian black bears, two years after buying the animals.

Since the bears are listed as a class II protected species, Kaiyu decided to contact the authorities and let them know about his unusual predicament.

In an effort to ensure the animals receive the best care, the dogs-turned-bears were moved to the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre of Yunnan. Staff at the center say the boy and girl pair arrived in good health and are adjusting well to their new living situation.

story behind the crying Greek man

Retiree Giorgos Chatzifotiadis had queued up at three banks in Greece's second city of Thessaloniki on Friday in the hope of withdrawing a pension on behalf of his wife, but all in vain.

When he was told at the fourth that he could not withdraw his 120 euros ($133), it was all too much and he collapsed in tears.

The 77-year-old told AFP that he had broken down because he "cannot stand to see my country in this distress".

"That's why I feel so beaten, more than for my own personal problems," Chatzifotiadis said.

The image of him sitting outside the bank, openly crying in despair with his savings book and identity card on the floor, was captured by an AFP photographer illustrating how ordinary Greeks are suffering during the country's debt crisis.

-----
Recounting how he had gone from bank to bank in a futile attempt to collect his wife's pension, Chatzifotiadis said when he was told at the fourth "that I could not get the money, I just collapsed".

Both he and his wife, like many Greeks in the north of the country, had spent several years in Germany where he "worked very hard" in a coal mine and later a foundry.
