Watching "Appalachian Outlaws," and I'm disappointed.

When I heard them mention a plant, I thought it was going to be about pot, since pot is a big cash crop in.Appalachia. Turns out it's about ginseng, which also grows well there. Boring! At least a show about pot would have been fun.

"I hate Congress."

-- Alexander Hamilton

Can you imagine what he would think of today's Congress?

A catalytic converter? Really?

The maintenance supervisor in my condo building sometimes puts up signs in the elevators and on the outside doors to warn us if it's going to be necessary to turn off the water for repairs, or that sort of thing. Today there is one saying that someone cut the catalytic converter out of a car in front of the building last night.

Now why would somebody do that? Do cars even have those things anymore?

I've been thinking about the West Virginia incident all day . . .

For a long time I have thought that something, probably something seemingly insignificant by itself, would be the spark that finally lights the powder keg of outright revolt in this country. Now we have a company with ties to the Kochroaches poisoning the water supply that 300,000 people depend on. They can't drink it, use it for cooking or bathing or anything else except flushing the toilet. As far as I know, nobody knows how to clean this up. You can't get any more basic than water. There is no substitute, no way to make it artificially, and without it you die in a few days. If this is handled poorly, it might just be the last straw. After all, Arab Spring started with some poor schmuck in Tunisia setting himself on fire.
