DHS compiled intelligence reports on protesters arrested in Portland without legal justification, re

Federal Homeland Security officers compiled intelligence and background reports — dubbed “baseball cards” — on people arrested by federal authorities in Portland during protests last summer, despite their charges being unrelated to homeland security threats, according to an internal review made public Friday.

Oregon U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden said the report confirmed “stunning incompetence, mismanagement and abuse of power” by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under former President Donald Trump’s administration.

The review followed reports last year that the Homeland Security department’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis had collected and shared information with federal law enforcement agencies on two journalists — a reporter for the New York Times and editor in chief of the blog Lawfare — who were covering protests in Portland. The reports noted the journalists had published leaked, unclassified documents about the department’s operations in Portland.

Poor training and inadequate guidance contributed to the federal intelligence officers’ lack of knowledge on legal restrictions for the collection of such information and confusion about what constituted a “true threat,” the internal Homeland Security report said.

Any Carolyn Hart cozy mystery fans?

If so, and you’ve read any or all of her Death on Demand series set on a South Carolina island in the “low country”, do you have an opinion on whether or not the circuit solicitor Brice Willard Posey character is modeled after someone in the Murdaugh family?

Too late for that.

They have gone all in on the Big Lie.

I think/hope that the more the R's "cry wolf"

by playing the “election was stolen” card, the greater chance that it will be seen for what it is - a loser’s last resort and an attack on our democracy - and backfire on the minority that is relying on it to win at all costs.

Just finished watching Clickbait on Netflix

and loved it. Looking for recommendations for something similar in the same genre on Netflix or Amazon.

THIS! I am completely overcome.

This church was destroyed on 9/11. Now it’s reopening as a shrine to victims

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church stood out amid the hustle and bustle of lower Manhattan.

The church started out in 1916 in a small row house that used to be a tavern. Over the years, the neighborhood around the church changed, from surrounding row houses to high rises. Developers attempted to acquire the property, but the church stayed put at 155 Cedar St., and became a familiar place for people who worked in the area. Eventually, the church, nowhere near as tall as the buildings nearby, stood alone, surrounded only by a parking lot.

“It was a little church on a lonely parking lot, and it was always open,” said the Rev. Alex Karloutsos, the vicar general of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. “People found it like an oasis.”

Because of lower Manhattan’s growth, the church was overshadowed for more than a quarter-century of its existence by two towering neighbors — the twin towers of the World Trade Center, which were built in the 1960s. That location also gave St. Nicholas an unwelcome place in history; when hijackers crashed planes into the twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001, the collapse of the buildings also destroyed the church. It was the only place of worship leveled by the attacks. Now, two decades later, the church is embarking on a resurrection of sorts. It will reopen not only as a functioning church for Orthodox Christians, but also as a shrine to those who died in the attacks. Most of the exterior of the new St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at the World Trade Center will be finished for the anniversary on Saturday.

Methinks he doth protest too much.

Texas lieutenant governor slams ‘dumpster fire’ Portland and its ‘depraved’ leaders for planned boycott over state’s abortion law

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick lambasted Portland leaders as “depraved” and accused them of putting residents in “grave danger” in response to the city’s plan to ban buying goods and services from the Lone Star State over its new law restricting access to abortions.

“Portland boycotting Texas is a complete joke,” sniped Patrick, a conservative-talk-radio-host-turned-politician, on Twitter Monday. “A city led by depraved officials allows lawlessness, putting their citizens in grave danger. A boycott will hurt them, not us. Texas’ economy is stronger than ever. We value babies and police, they don’t.”

Days prior, the Texas lieutenant governor — who has a history of making incendiary comments — similarly trashed Mayor Ted Wheeler for Portland’s decision to cut millions of dollars from its police bureau’s budget amid racial justice protests last year that continued nightly for months, erupting into occasional riots and clashes between cops and demonstrators.

“Texas is solidly #prolife and Texans support law enforcement,” wrote Patrick, who assumed his state’s second most powerful elected office in 2015. “Meanwhile, Portland is a dumpster fire and Texas is thriving.”
