About Me

I think a lot of people get stuck in a certain mindset, they won't allow themselves to think outside of their party affiliation. I try not to do that, I'm all about what's fair, what's right and what's just. Liberals have to make it known that we are not the "anything goes" crowd. Yes, we believe in family and some of us even believe in God. We also believe in common decency and human rights for all people. Some of us believe that parents should have a say in the lives of their underage children. The perception of liberals has been twisted and distorted for far too long. Which is why those on the right use the term "liberal" like it's a four letter word. My mother is the type of liberal I would like to be. A God loving, family values, Pro choice, Pro-America, liberal.

My nephew works as a teacher

in one of the most dangerous gang- infested schools in NYC. They have very tight security within the school and there have been fist fights, but no school shootings. If you look at the pattern of school shootings, they mostly take place in suburban schools. Maybe the suburban schools should adopt the same security measures that have been implemented in the inner-city schools. They use metal detectors, and they also have security officers. Tons of weapons have been confiscated before they get inside of the school. My nephew has been threatened by both students and parents. He's been teaching for about three years. We need some smart passable gun control laws, but we also need good security within the schools.

Hey there,

Fellow members of the DU, who own guns or may be members of the NRA. I want you to know that although I'm not a gun-owner or a member of the NRA, I support your right to own a gun and belong to whatever organization you choose. I don't paint all of you guys with the same brush.

I hope that folks with clear heads on both sides come together and try to find solutions to this problem. So far what we've been doing, hasn't worked. I'm sure you'll agree that we need some real changes in this country when it comes to what type of weapons civilians should be allowed to have and how much ammunition civilians should be allowed to have. You fought just like I did for same sex marriage, Choice, the President to get a second term, for the poor, and the uninsured. I look at you as an ally in this fight, not an enemy. Let's work together to try and prevent more of these types of tragedies from occurring. Now, let's take this fight to our elected officials.

Mentally ill people..

having access to guns is a huge problem. We will lose this fight if we paint all gun owners with the same brush. By all accounts the weapons used in the latest shooting, were obtained legally. We really need to look at mental illness in this country. I have a cousin who was diagnosed as being a paranoid schizophrenic, and he has committed petty crimes when he's off his meds... like breaking windows and such. He has been arrested numerous times and tossed in jail instead of being treated in a psych ward. While in jail he trashed his cell and was held in "the hole" for ten days.

My aunt couldn't visit him and had no idea how he was doing. I contacted a mental health advocate, he contacted TPTB at the jail and told them how harmful it was to hold someone with my cousins mental problems in solitary confinement for ten days. He set up a meeting and had my cousin transferred to the psych ward after an evaluation. My aunt has tried to have him committed, but because he's an adult and hasn't harmed anyone yet, she has failed. If you look at the last few mass shootings all of the assailants had a history of mental illness. Along with gun control we need to address mental illness in America.

Jovan Belcher case isn't just about gun violence, it's about domestic violence

Last week on my blog I wrote: An Open Letter to Sherri Shepard and Whoopi Glodberg. I've been blogging for seven years. I've received more e-mail about that post than any other post I've ever written. It was my most viewed post of the week. Some of the letters were just heartbreaking, while others made me feel hopeful.

I was thinking after reading the e-mails, that we have a quiet "War on Women" going on .
A war that most people are ashamed to talk about.. Domestic Violence. One of the e-mails I received chilled me to the bone. The emailer said.. "Chris only hit Rihanna. once, and she must have done something to set him off, and he was just trying to keep her in line."

Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and himself. We don't know if there was a history of physical or verbal abuse, but it seems highly likely. It has been reported that he has had some violent outbursts in the past with previous girlfriends. It starts with a push, a shove, a hit and finally a murder.. If the victim doesn't get out, and sometimes a murder even if the victim gets out.

Women need to follow their instincts and not dismiss uneasy feelings about their mates in the beginning of a relationship. Trying to control your every move, doesn't mean he really cares. Having jealous outbursts doesn't mean he really cares. Treating you with respect and dignity means he really cares. I really wish the MSM and others will use this tragedy as an opportunity to address domestic violence.

According to stats "the number one killer of African-American women ages 15 to 34 is homicide at the hands of a current or former intimate partner." http://www.americanbar.org/groups/domestic_violence/resources/statistics.html

Only a fool would paint all people who worship the same God, with the same brush!

A few years ago, I was listening to a a progressive radio show and some of the callers were calling in bashing Christians, because of statements that were made by Palin, Beck, and O'Donnell. They failed to see the hypocrisy. The one caller in particular, was infuriated because the GOP had come out against the Islamic center in NY and were condemning all Muslim's, based on the actions of the 9-11 terrorist.

I thought isn't that the same thing you're doing to Christians? The Christians I know are just as diverse as our country. Some are gay some are straight, from all different races, politically parties and genders. We all know that the troublemakers in any group always get the most attention from the media.

The God that I believe in teaches me to take care of the poor, reach out to the oppressed, and to never lie, cheat, steal or use his name in a divisive way. Some within the republican party, have used fear, bigotry and hate in order to gain power. They use Christianity the same way that Bin Laden used Islam, which is truly despicable.

People often ask why won't the "Moderate Muslim's" speak out against nuts like Bin Laden. I ask why won't "Moderate Christians speak out against nuts like Pat Roberson, James Dobson, and all of the other people within the GOP who have distorted the teachings of Christ?

A wise person will learn to separate religious people from religious extremists.

"NYPD Officer Gives Boots to Homeless Man"

If this story doesn't make you shed a tear, I don't know what will. Just beautiful! Isn't that what we're here for.. to help each other?

"And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me."

McCain's Bad Experience vs. Obama's Good Judgment...

I almost forgot about this video. I made it in 2008.

President Obama's Faith..

Some republicans are..

like.. baby, I've changed. The American people are like.. words don't mean jack! Put forth some policies that will benefit the poor, middle class and promise to stay out of the ladies wombs and other folks bedrooms then we can talk.

Some of them are trying to come across as kinder and gentler, but it's not about what they're saying now, it's about their philosophy and the policies that they're continuing to support. Folks shouldn't be fooled by the Faux outrage they're showing over Mitt's comments. It's not that they disagree with him, it's that they want to win elections.

If you insult my family, you are not welcome in my home.

Mitt Romney should be uninvited to the White House, On behalf of the American people.
