Anyone else notice slow packages, no matter who is delivering them?

Yes, we expect the USPS to be slow now that DeJoy has lit a bomb under the entire thing.

You'd think it would be a great opportunity for the "F..." and "U..." companies to step up and say, "Hey, come to us! We will deliver faster and better!"

Well, the "F..." in our area could not suck more. They don't maintain their trucks, which means I have multiple oil spots on my driveway. Yes, I have complained and, yes, something will be done if I live long enough. Meanwhile, they fixed the truck temporarily and it's leaking oil again. Know who had to be the one to tell them? You got it! Me! Why are they not going through regular inspections?

So now that they know their truck is leaking, my packages are delayed. Their plan "B" is not reliable. It usually is for another truck to bring my packages or, in at least one case, an employee to deliver using a personal vehicle on his way home. And then, only because I told them that the package is perishable and they will pay for it if it's spoiled. As retaliation once, they left my package in a flower garden leaning up against my mailbox, about 600 feet away from the house. Only once, because I complained, and it was fortunately not a heavy package. That driver is still working.

"U..." is better for now. Their trucks do not leak. But the package I was supposed to get yesterday and has been a 35-minute drive away since yesterday morning won't be here until Monday. No reason. Not at all. Oh, and the driver is very, very nice. But he apparently can't read. I have a floor mat with a big red sign on the wall saying, "Please deliver packages here." And he walks right past it and puts them on my furniture.

It took me quite a while and lots of complaints to get both of them to put stuff on the covered porch, which they drive right past to get to the uncovered, frequently wet porch.

They used to be very reliable. Is it just a coincidence? Is it just this area?

WTAF?

By the way, only one USPS package was delivered late in the past several weeks, and that was because there was roadside mowing or something such that vehicles couldn't get past. Totally not the fault of USPS.

My friend is in the hospital with Covid, on oxygen.

We were in high school together and she was my best friend. We kept in touch over the years, although not maybe as often as we could have.

I learned last night that her husband died a few days ago, from Covid. She's in pretty bad shape.

No, I don't know their vaccination status. However, I'm guessing that it would be pretty damn miraculous for both of them to have gotten this sick with breakthrough infections, at the same time. So I'll make a wild guess that they weren't vaccinated.

I'm mad as hell, sad, worried, and ... mad as hell! This could all have been prevented. I'm certain of it. If she pulls through, I want to call her and ask WTFFFF???!!!! But that wouldn't be very nice, I know.

FUCK all the Tucker Carlsons and other right-wing and evangelical fucking assholes who made getting vaccinated against a deadly virus something about God or politics or whatever. It's about staying well and keeping your fellow citizens well and ending the fucking pandemic!

Fuck. That's all. Thanks for listening. (FUCK!!!!)

One more time ...

Someone posted a link of people who refused vaccination and then died from Covid. I can't remember if it was famous people or just people who regretted not getting vaxxed. I should have bookmarked it, but I didn't.

Now my friend's 5-year-old grandson has Covid, her son (grandson's father) is a trumpet anti-mask/anti-vaxxer, as is the other man in the household. They won't even get tested to see if they're the ones carrying it. I told her I'd send her that link. She might be able to get through to her son.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

So we went to Asheville today.

We were celebrating an occasion and just wanted to walk around, look at some art, get something to eat outside.

Turns out that they have a city-wide mask mandate, vaccinated or not. Most of the people we saw were masked unless they were sitting down eating. Most of the stores have a box of masks at the entrance with signs saying not to come in if you don't have a mask on.

Well, we went into this one jewelry store. I don't care for the jewelry, but there's a cat who's quite cute and friendly. The owner, artist, whatever she calls herself wasn't masked. We petted the cat for a minute and then my husband said, "I assume you're vaccinated, then?" She snarled, "That's personal health information!" and turned around in a huff, never to speak to us again. We did say goodbye when we left and she didn't reply.

But now I'm mad at myself for not saying, "No, that's actually public health information because we're in a pandemic. Your vaccination status combined with your refusal to wear a mask will likely affect people you don't even know. If you gave a flying fuck, you'd at least be covering your unvaccinated mouth to protect your potential customers, as is currently required." Alas, I'm just not quick on my feet.

It sort of put me in a mood, particularly since we go to Asheville to escape the ignorance we live among. For the most part, it's quite progressive. But this was a big slap in the face for me.

I'm sorely tempted to write a scathing review on Yelp because of her lack of respect for the local laws, as well as her lack of concern for her fellow human beings... not to mention that her stuff is overpriced and nothing special, and she's a rude bitch whose beautiful cat deserves a better mom.

So that's my rant. Hold me.

UPDATE: OK, I did it! I wrote my Yelp review. I hope it protects someone. Thanks for all your replies and support! You helped me do the right thing!

All Tennessee Adults Eligible for COVID-19 Vaccination by April 5

I just saw this today. Sort of explains why I got my surprise email last Thursday telling me I could schedule my appointment. This is good news. If you haven't registered, go to vaccinate.tn.gov to register. You'll get an email confirming your registration and then another one as soon as you're eligible.

https://www.tn.gov/health/news/2021/3/22/all-tennessee-adults-eligible-for-covid-19-vaccination-by-april-5.html

NASHVILLE Ė Tennessee Governor Bill Lee today announced all Tennessee adults will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination no later than April 5. Tennesseans aged 55 and older and those in Phase 2 of the stateís COVID-19 Vaccination Plan are eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations effective Mar. 18.

Here's my letter from Marsha Blackburn. Have at it, DUers.

I wrote to her after the impeachment trial to tell her she voted the wrong way. This is her reply:

March 4, 2021

Dear xxxx,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the second impeachment of Donald Trump, and for providing me the opportunity to respond to your question. Having a conversation on issues that affect Tennesseans is an important part of my work to represent you.

On February 13, 2021, I voted to acquit Donald Trump of the charge laid out in the article of impeachment by the House of Representatives. In regards to this vote, I had serious constitutional concerns with an impeachment trial of a former president, as well as the unacceptably rushed process by the House of Representatives in drafting and voting on the article of impeachment. Additionally, my decision for acquittal was reinforced by the ambiguity of the charge, which failed to include a specific criminal code that had allegedly been violated.

The Constitution makes clear: "The President, Vice President, and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors". The House impeachment managers failed to meet this clear standard, and the full Senate found Donald Trump not guilty.

Rather than proceeding with an unconstitutional trial, the Senate's time would have been better spent debating targeted COVID-19 relief for struggling small businesses and families. I appreciate your thoughtful comments and am hopeful you will continue to contact my office on issues of concern to you. Please know that I value your input as the Senate turns to other matters affecting the lives of Tennesseans and the American people.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. If you would like regular updates on my work for Tennessee, please sign up for my weekly newsletter or follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Sincerely,

Marsha Blackburn
United States Senator

Am I in the Twilight Zone? I sort of remember that a bunch of constitutional scholars said that not only was it constitutional, but there was precedence. Her degree is in Home Economics. Yet she's somehow more informed than lawyers who have studied this issue. I am so sick and tired of these hypocrites.

You know damn well that no Democratic president could have gotten through the first day with some of the bullshit MF45 got away with, and they continue to kiss his ass.

Meanwhile, the shit about Covid-19 relief ... when they refuse to do anything to help people???? Do they really think we're that stupid? Well, in TN, apparently we are because the majority elected her.

My husband got his first vaccination.

He just became eligible. He registered online today and got an appointment right away. What a surprise! He had Moderna and feels fine so far. Didn't even feel the needle.

I'm not eligible yet. But he does the grocery shopping, so he's out more than I am. I can't tell you how relieved I am that he's on his way to full vaccination!

I changed my name!

Thanks to you, I was able to decide!
https://www.democraticunderground.com/10181474715

piddyprints and Syllabub both got 2 votes. And they were actually my favorites. So here's what I've decided: My new username here is piddyprints and my next kitteh's name will be Syllabub!

Thank you so much!

I want to change my username.

It's outdated. My daughter (one of the Airmen) has retired after 20 years. She divorced her husband (the other of the Airmen) several years ago. And they've both gone to the dark side. Besides that, most people assume from my username that I have a son, which I do not.

I thought it would be fun to have a name that will never wear out. For me, that's something to do with kittehs.

Here are some of my ideas:

1) piddyprints: Cartoon Tweety used to say, "this little piddy went to market ..." as he peeled Sylvester's paws off his cage. So we have always referred to paw prints as piddyprints. It's what they leave on the coffee table and our hearts.

2) Grizabella: From the Cats musical, the old washed up kitty who is shunned from leaving the fold. She gets chosen to go to the Heaviside Layer. This one seems sort of sad, but not altogether inaccurate ... at least the first part.

3) Syllabub: Double meaning here. She's a kitten from Cats, who is alternately called Jemima. It's also a sort of dessert drink that I've never had before.

4) Jellylorum: Named after T.S. Elliot's cat. She's older and more maternal than most of the others.

OK, that's a bit Cat-heavy. That's the point. My cats have helped me through the hell that Republicans keep foisting on our country, time after time. So why not make my username cat-themed?

Suggestions? Opinions? Are they all too stupid?

Take your time. I have to go scoop litter boxes.

Update: I posted a new thread saying that I decided on piddyprints, but I will name my next kitteh Syllabub. Thank you all!

I wonder if MF45's lawyers will quit,

Now that itís clear itís more than a 3-day gig and they know they probably wonít get paid. No matter what happens at this point, they canít win. Sucks to be them. They should have left the snake alone.
