Michigan Emergency Manager Law Referendum Will Go On November Ballot, Supreme Court Rules

LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Supreme Court says a referendum on the state's emergency manager law will appear on the November ballot.

Republican Justice Mary Beth Kelly provided the crucial vote for Friday's decision, joining three Democratic justices.

The court ruling means voters will decide whether to keep or kill a law that sends powerful emergency managers into distressed communities and school districts to fix their finances.

A Great Urgency: To All World Religious and Spiritual Leaders

“We have been warned from Ancient Prophecies of these times we live in today, but have also been given a very important message about a solution to turn these terrible times around. In our Prophecies it is told that we are now at the crossroads. Either unite spiritually as a Global Nation, or be faced with chaos, disasters, diseases, and tears from our relatives' eyes. We are the only species that is destroying the Source of Life, Mother Earth, in the name of power, mineral resources, and ownership of land, using chemicals and methods of warfare that are doing irreversible damage. Mother Earth is becoming tired and cannot sustain any more impacts of war. This new millennium will usher in an age of harmony or it will bring the end of life, as we know it. To us, as caretakers of the heart of Mother Earth, falls the responsibility of turning back the powers of destruction.”

A Great Urgency: To All World Religious and Spiritual Leaders My Relatives, Time has come to speak to the hearts of our Nations and their Leaders. I ask you this from the bottom of my heart, to come together from the Spirit of your Nations in prayer. We, from the heart of Turtle Island, have a great message for the World; we are guided to speak from all the White Animals showing their sacred color, which have been signs for us to pray for the sacred life of all things. The dangers we are faced with at this time are not of spirit, mistakes that we cannot afford to continue to make. I asked, as Spiritual Leaders, that we join together, united in prayer with the whole of our Global Communities. My concern is these serious issues will continue to worsen, as a domino effect that our Ancestors have warned us of in their Prophecies. I know in my heart there are millions of people that feel our united prayers for the sake of our Grandmother Earth are long overdue. I believe we as Spiritual people must gather ourselves and focus our thoughts and prayers to allow the healing of the many wounds that have been inflicted on the Earth. As we honor the Cycle of Life, let us call for Prayer circles globally to assist in healing Grandmother Earth (our Unc¹I Maka), and that we may also seek to live in harmony …

NYC throws Anthony Bologna under the bus.

New York City has distanced itself from a high-ranking police official accused of firing pepper spray at Occupy Wall Street protesters, taking the unusual step of declining to defend him in a civil lawsuit over the incident.

The decision means Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna also could be personally liable for financial damages that may arise out of the suit, said lawyers familiar with similar civil-rights claims.

The 29-year veteran has asked a judge to reverse the city. "He wasn't doing this as Anthony Bologna, mister. He was doing this as Anthony Bologna, deputy inspector, NYPD," said his lawyer...

Vermont farmer crushes 7 police cars with tractor over pot arrest

Published on Aug 2, 2012 by HoodNews

A Vermont farmer used his tractor to crush seven Orleans County Sheriff's Department squad cars on Thursday because he was angry about being arrested on marijuana charges last month.

"It's more than half our fleet," Chief Deputy Sheriff Phil Brooks explained to the Burlington Free Press. "We have 11 cars."

Roger Pion, 34, allegedly flattened five marked cruisers and two unmarked vehicles, including a van used for transporting prisoners. A car belonging the the department's bookkeeper was also damaged as the tractor pushed it to clear a path to the squad cars.

#Occupied: Reports From the Front Lines #21

This week in Occupy, the people of Anaheim continued their stand against a trigger-happy police force, Occupy activists got raided by the FBI, the NYPD was finally called out for its Occupy-related human rights abuses, and 13 years after he aggressively lobbied Congress to repeal Glass-Steagall, former Citigroup CEO Sandy Weill said, “Just kidding!”

NYT Photos Don't Do Justice to Police Presence at Anaheim Protests

A picture is worth a thousand words is often used as short hand for the power of an image to convey information and elicit emotion. But a snap shot in time can distort reality and mislead, as is the case of the NYT's photo of police in formation in Anaheim with the caption" No Passage to Disneyland."

The real story in Anaheim this weekend was that the protests that were sparked by the Anaheim police killing of two Latino men, Manuel Diaz and Joel Acevedo, was the massive police presence that met a mere 100 to 150 peaceful protestors.

When I arrived at the Anaheim police station I expected to see a police force prepared for a demonstration and possible unruly behavior as tensions had been high all week. Since the shootings, a canine had been unleashed on an unarmed crowd of mostly women and children, and many rounds of non-lethal "rubber bullets" had been fired at the citizens of Anaheim.
