Arkansas Children Are Becoming Sick Like Never Before During COVID Pandemic

As Arkansas is experiencing a dramatic surge in COVID-19 cases, with more than 2,800 new cases reported Thursday, kids are being impacted like never before in the pandemic. Gov. Asa Hutchinson said he was especially concerned about the increase in pediatric cases while announcing he was reinstating a public health emergency for the state.

Only people who are 12 and older can get vaccinated, which is a concern as schools are only a few weeks away from starting a new academic year. The latest variant is making a growing number of children sick, with Arkansas Children’s Hospital this week reporting its largest number of patients with COVID-19.

Hutchinson said Thursday there were 24 children being treated at the hospital and none had been fully immunized. Half of those, he said, were under 12-years-old and not eligible to be vaccinated.

“That makes the point that they need to be protected, first by decisions of their parents, and then secondly by school boards if they decide to take action in that regard,” Hutchinson said.

Arkansas Hospital Says Not a Single ICU Patient is Vaccinated as Delta Surges

Officials at Arkansas' largest healthcare organization said not a single COVID-19 patient at Baptist Health Medical Center Little Rock's intensive care unit (ICU) is vaccinated.

"The vast majority of patients that are in the hospital are not vaccinated," Dr. Eric Bravo, the medical director of Baptist Health's hospitalist program, told Newsweek on Wednesday. "I would say, I have not personally seen anybody in the ICU that's been vaccinated."

On Tuesday, Arkansas' COVID-19 hospitalizations reached its highest since January 27. The state's department of health reported that 387 patients are in intensive care and 205 patients are on ventilators. Only three percent of Arkansas' ICU beds remain available.

The FBI Admits That Its Investigation Into Brett Kavanaugh Was A Scam

According to a statement from the office of Sen. Whitehouse, “Nearly two years later and after repeated follow-up requests, the FBI finally responded to Whitehouse and Coons’s questions. The June 30, 2021 letter from the FBI Office of Congressional Affairs revealed new information on the Kavanaugh investigation: that Justice Kavanaugh’s nomination “was the first time that the FBI set-up a tip line for a nominee undergoing Senate confirmation,” and that tip line received “over 4,500 tips, including phone calls and electronic submissions.” The FBI apparently pursued none of these tips. Instead, by the FBI’s own account, it merely “provided all relevant tips” to Trump’s Office of White House Counsel, the very office that had constrained and directed the limited investigation.”

The FBI didn’t investigate any of the tips about Trump’s Supreme Court nominee and sexual assault. Instead, they turned them over to the White House, where the tips were buried and never investigated.

This speaks to the selfishness of adults who refuse Covid vaccine.

Really having a hard time accepting that kids sacrificed 16+ months of their childhood, 2 school years of normalcy, mostly to protect adults from a virus that they’re now choosing NOT to get vaccinated against, making kids who can’t vax more vulnerable & holding everyone hostage

I need some gift suggestions from you old geezers out there.

My brother, who lives half a continent away, is coming for a visit which coincides with his 80th birthday. The entire family is fully vaccinated (except for children under 12), so we're planning a big birthday party. It will be the first family celebration in a year and a half.

I want to find him a nice gift, but I'm out of ideas. He's a lifelong bachelor, retired Navy, gets around well, but not really physically active. His main past time seems to be playing Trivia at a local tavern. Mainly a beer drinker, but enjoys a taste of harder stuff from time to time.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Mo Brooks' ever-changing Jan. 6 story

In a court filing last Friday, Congressman Mo Brooks laid blame, at least partly, on former President Donald Trump for Brooks’ fiery speech at a Jan. 6 rally, at which Brooks told the crowd it was time to “take names and kick ass.” The filing claimed Brooks would not have been speaking at the rally if not for Trump’s invitation and said the content of the speech was cleared by the White House.

That filing came in response to a lawsuit filed by Rep. Eric Swalwell against Brooks and three others, including Trump, for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection that resulted in five deaths — including the death of a Capitol Police officer — and saw lawmakers fleeing for their lives as rioters roamed through the House and Senate chambers and rummaged through lawmakers’ offices.

Thanks to his speech, his involvement in the planning of the Trump rally and his insistence on pushing the “Big Lie” claim of massive voting fraud, Brooks has been a central figure in the national outrage over what was one of the ugliest scenes in the history of the country.

Brooks has run from the heat, offering an ever-changing list of excuses and explanations and blaming an odd assortment of people. Here’s how his story has shifted and changed over the past six months.

This is starting to sound like "the dog ate my homework" defense. Keep digging, Mo.
