Leading medical groups urge Trump to share Covid data with Biden to 'save countless lives'

Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON — Top officials from organizations representing American hospitals, doctors, and nurses are calling on President Donald Trump to share critical Covid-19 data with President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team “as soon as possible” to "save countless lives."

In a letter released Tuesday, the CEOs of the American Hospital Association, American Medical Association and American Nurses Association urged the Trump administration to “work closely with the Biden transition team to share all critical information related to Covid-19.”

“Real-time data and information on the supply of therapeutics, testing supplies, personal protective equipment, ventilators, hospital bed capacity and workforce availability to plan for further deployment of the nation’s assets needs to be shared to save countless lives,” they wrote in the letter. “All information about the capacity of the Strategic National Stockpile, the assets from Operation Warp Speed, and plans for dissemination of therapeutics and vaccines needs to be shared as quickly as possible to ensure that there is continuity in strategic planning so that there is no lapse in our ability to care for patients.”

The letter cited their perspective as "providers of care for all Americans" who "see the suffering that is occurring in our communities due to COVID-19. We see families who have lost both parents from COVID- 19; we see children suffering from long-term effects due to a COVID-19 infection; and we see minority populations disproportionately suffering from the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is from this front line human perspective that we urge you to share critical data and information as soon as possible."

Wisconsin recount would cost Trump campaign nearly $8 million, WEC says

Source: TMJ4/NBC

It will cost nearly $8 million for a recount of the presidential election in battleground Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission estimated Monday it will cost President Trump's election campaign $7.9 million to count ballots again in all of the state's 72 counties. The counties are expected to conclude canvassing this Tuesday, and the campaign can formally request a recount on Wednesday.

Members of the Trump campaign have indicated they want a recount, though the campaign must wait until the counties finish canvassing before they can make a formal request. The state's top election official, Meagan Wolfe, said in a statement Monday that they have not received any indication that there "will or will not be a recount."

President-elect Biden says he wouldn't hesitate to get the coronavirus vaccine

Source: CNBC

President-elect Joe Biden said on Monday that “he wouldn’t hesitate” to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, and the only reason people are hesitant about the vaccine’s safety is because of President Donald Trump.

“It’s important that people who are in the greatest need get it,” Biden said during a press briefing. “I wouldn’t hesitate to get the vaccine, but I also want to set an example.”

On Monday, Moderna reported preliminary phase three trial data that showed its coronavirus vaccine is more than 94% effective in preventing Covid-19. Those results follow similar findings from Pfizer, which announced last week that early data shows its vaccine is more than 90% effective.

“I think we’re on a clear path now. We’re on a clear path with the international community and international leaders, and the scientific community have focused on these two vaccines,” Biden said. “They appear to be ready for prime time, ready to be used. And if that continues along those roads, I would take the vaccine.”

Michelle Obama Called Out Donald and Melania Trump For Blocking Biden's Transition

Source: BuzzFeed News

Former first lady Michelle Obama excoriated President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump for refusing to behave "maturely" and blocking the smooth transition of power to President-elect Joe Biden.

In a lengthy Instagram post on Monday, Obama wrote about how she welcomed Donald and Melania Trump to the White House in 2016 despite the fact that he had "spread racist lies about my husband that had put my family in danger."

"That wasn’t something I was ready to forgive," Obama said. "But I knew that, for the sake of our country, I had to find the strength and maturity to put my anger aside."

Obama said that she and Barack instructed their staff to do what "George and Laura Bush had done for us: run a respectful, seamless transition of power—one of the hallmarks of American democracy."

GSA official blocking Biden's transition appears to privately plan post-Trump career

Source: ABC News

The top General Services Administration official who's blocking President-elect Joe Biden's transition team from accessing government resources ahead of his inauguration appears to be looking for a new job, according to a message obtained by ABC News.

Emily Murphy, head of the GSA, recently sent that message to an associate inquiring about employment opportunities in 2021, a move that some in Washington interpreted as at least tacitly acknowledging that the current administration soon will be gone.

Murphy has the power to decide -- or "ascertain" -- when election results are evident enough to trigger a transition of power, allowing the winning team access to career staff at federal agencies and internal government information including national security matters and plans for administering a COVID-19 vaccine.

A GSA spokesperson denied the account that Murphy was actively looking for a job, but noted that it wouldn't be unusual for someone in government, especially a political appointee, to consider future opportunities.

Trump national security adviser Robert O'Brien says it looks like Biden has won

Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's National Security Council is preparing for "a very professional transition," because it looks like Joe Biden has won the election, national security adviser Robert O'Brien said in comments that aired Monday.

His remarks stood in stark contrast to those of the president, who tweeted falsely just before midnight Sunday, "I WON THE ELECTION," as he continued to make baseless claims of widespread fraud. Twitter put a warning label on the tweet, noting that "official sources have called this election differently."

The president's top security official, known as a Trump loyalist, offered a different view.

"Look, if the Biden-Harris ticket is determined to be the winner — and obviously things look that way now — we'll have a very professional transition from the National Security Council," O'Brien said in remarks made last week that streamed on the web Monday morning as part of a global security forum sponsored by the Soufan Center.

Georgia elections chief fires back at Trump over claims about recount process

Source: The Hill

Georgia’s Republican secretary of state is pushing back on several false claims by President Trump about the state’s recount process and election integrity.

In a series of Facebook posts, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) first addressed the president’s claims that election officials were not allowing Trump campaign observers into counting rooms.

“The state of Georgia placed the responsibility of recruitment of monitors solely on both parties. Don’t have credentials? Call your state party and demand monitor credentials,” Raffensperger wrote on Facebook. “Find them horribly disorganized? Show up to their office and demand credentials.

In follow-up posts, Raffensperger clarified that the Dominion voting system, the subject of numerous conspiracy theories advanced by the president, is American-owned rather than Venezuelan and that the practice of ballot harvesting is illegal in Georgia.
