The COVID-19 pandemic is over. The virus has been vanquished. We’re all safe!
This is how I know.
I am currently living in rural, East Texas. This was errand day for me. I stay home as much as possible, but today, I had to go out. Naturally, I wore my mask. The State of Texas is under an order from our Governor to do so when we’re in public spaces. Even if I weren’t under such an order, I would wear a mask anyway because that’s the socially-responsible thing to do under the threat of a deadly virus that is easily transmitted via aerosols emitted during ordinary breathing.
Evidently, I didn’t get the memo. I visited three, separate businesses. The first was a grocery—not a Walmart, but a slightly-smaller store. The second was a liquor store—sue me; if you don’t need a sedative right now, you’re not paying attention. The third was a gas station. At these three establishments, not a single customer (except me) was wearing a mask. Only at the small grocery were the employees wearing masks. Evidently, the folks at the other two businesses got the memo—the pandemic is OVER!
Why? Because through his words and actions, that’s what the President told these people, and a lot of them actually believe him. I know that’s hard for DU to fathom. Most of us are a bit above the average IQ of the average American citizen, but we need to remember that half of us are below the average IQ, and many of them actually believe what this compulsive liar tells them.
Honestly, I was shocked. I hadn’t been out for a week or so. Mask compliance was much better prior to the RNC. Now, it’s basically gone. Why? Because Trump said so.
So let us rejoice! The pandemic is a thing of the past. I admit that I was pretty sick of it.
